Sox v Mariners, at TEP, 3:05pm, 3/22/07

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 05:01 PM) What don't you get here? The point in Anderson outproducing Erstad is to make a decision to send him down less likely. If Guillen asks Brian to step it up, and he does, I would hope a roster spot remains. It's that simple. Well everyone keeps talking about him outperforming Erstad to this point, so I would think if he is told to step it up, he would need to seperate himself more from Erstad. And if all he is doing is matching him for hits, I don't think that is going to cut it. BA will make the team!! Don't worry. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) No, stepping it up is stringing together multi hit games with more frequency between now and the end of spring training. A single is not much, but it's a start. Multi hit games.........like the one Erstad had yesterday? Hmmm -

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 04:47 PM) Because Darin really used all of his Grinder abilities to get on base and let himself get driven in by a homerun. That's f***ing Moneyball. Well, leading off on this team, thats what is supposed to happen right? I mean, Thome, Konerko, and Dye sometimes do hit home runs. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 04:41 PM) Nothing would be better then Anderson ending the season on a hot streak. Considering Guillen said Brian has to "step it up" in the newspaper, and he's already responded with a single, it'd be hard for management to justify sending down Anderson if he's hitting better than Grinderstad. Hilarious, stepping it up is hitting a single? Too bad Grinderstand has a single and a run scored. -

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 04:15 PM) (2) Anderson is not in center. When did Darin Erstad become a god? Probably when he was part of a championship team, an all star and earned his 2 GG's. Funny though, BA is a god after having a less than average second half of a season, but imporved from his first half season. -
Watchin the game on MLB.TV and damn, Danks looked solid!! Works fast and throws strikes

QUOTE(shipps @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 03:11 AM) Yes ,it is understood that Erstad will catch the ball when its hit to him,but BA will cover much more ground than Erstad.Erstad was never a speed burner and he has lost a step from that. And its not like Pods is a guy that can take away the doubles in the gap.BA can do that. From a defensive standpoint you cant actually think Erstad has the tools that BA has no matter what his FP is. Well appearently enough ground was covered in 05 when ARow was out there. And im not saying Erstad is ARow, but according to Soxtalk, ARow is no BA. And im well aware that BA can cover more ground and probably has better tools but to me its not such a drastic drop off that everyone makes it out to be, like one that will cost us in the long haul of a season. I've been arguing this all week, and for those that enjoy watching BA in CF, I hope you enjoyed that fantastic swing he had at the plate today.
-
All this talk about the Anderson being so much better at CF than Erstad is confusing me a bit. I look at Erstad's career stats in CF: 454 games 4 errors .997 FP What is so bad about that? I figured this would be a good place to ask this questions since all you know so much more than Ozzie and KW. Maybe I'll send Ozzie a link to this site so hopefully he can realize before 4/2 that he sucks and doesn't know what players to take up north. It's not like the guy ever won a world series. Anyone know KW's email? He doesn't know anything either, how could he give up Carlos Lee, and sign such a clubhouse cancer such as AJ. Crazy just crazy!

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 04:23 PM) Jeter bangs every supermodel that he can get his hands on, Tom Brady also knocks them up. Yet both of them can play professional sports without having massive groin injuries. Good point, I guess you can throw Tony Parker in there too.
-
McCarthy giving up 2 homers so far today.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) Here are his stats since he became a big leager. 2003 .315 BA and a .379OBP 2004 Just like Willie Mays hays in Major League II he decides to add the long ball to his stats. .244BA with a .313 OBP, both failures for a leadoff hitter. 2005 .290BA and a .351OBP 2006 .260BA and .330OBP So good year, bad year, good year, bad year, who knows this year. Thanks! It just kind of reminds me of when we picked him up, looking at his stats from the previous year you wonder why, and same case this year. I honestly feel he will step it up this year and that last year had ALOT to do with injuries and marrying Lisa Durgen.
-
Can anyone post Pods stats for the last three years? Can't get to those sites from work!

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 12:39 PM) Well actually back up your opinion instead of just saying "he sucks and can't handle pressure." Why does he suck? Because he wasn't a fantastic hitter after 400 ab's? When has he proven that he can't handle pressure? Lets hear some facts instead of a baseless opinion. That was my point in summing it up. Im not going to repeat all the things on here that keep repeated over and over about him. Say all you want about Brian this and Brian that, but last year he sucked and looked nervous, scared and clueless at the plate!
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) Attacking spelling is the epitome of grasping at straws. And if your definition of 'summing up' is "he sucks and looks like a little b**** at the plate" then yeah I really can't take you seriously. Like calling people out on a message board for stating their opinion. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) Attacking spelling is the epitome of grasping at straws. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 12:26 PM) Talk about pulling no weight what so ever. I really can't take a person like that seriously. Come up with a new line outside of "he sucks". I may dislike a player like Podsednik but atleast I'm able to convey my dislike for him in a more creative an adult way than "he sucks and looks like a scared little b****." It's seriously amazing how little patience some people have in young players. Not everyone succeeds right off the bat, a whole lot of good baseball players fail early in their career before adjusting to the advanced competition. If John Danks wins the 5th spot this year and s***s his pants, I fully expect him to get the same treatment that Anderson and to a bit lesser extent, McCarthy have received. Have some patients, the 2007 season is not riding on the success of Brian Anderson but the future might. Atleast that's how KW has set it up. Hyperbole is also insanely lame. Your spelling is lame. Seriously, this is a message board that has been going back and forth on the BA thing and there have been posts where I have made more than just a blunt statement. Nothing wrong with summing up my opinion, and I would be happy to verbally state why I think this way perhaps when im not at work. Some of us can't sit on here all day every day and play GM.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 12:19 PM) I am sure that Robin Ventura would of looked like a nervous b$%^& at the plate when he hit .179 and .249 in his first 2 season. I am sure that you would of crapped over him and wanted him moved. But then again hindsight is 20/20. Ok, I'll stop, I didn't know he was the next Robin Ventura. Does anyone here realize that what Robin did is rare? In other words, not the common. Why don't we just have one thread title "BA is God"

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 12:04 PM) Not in the 2nd half of the year. Mack was a disaster with the bat in July and August. Anderson was quite a bit better. Im referring to at bats that actually had something to do with a win for the Sox. Face it, Anderson sucks and looks like a nervous b$%^& at the plate.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 11:59 AM) I bet the amount of times that he cost us at the plate was less than the amount of times that Mack cost us in the field playing CF. Which is probably then offset by the times Mack helped us with his bat.
-
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) Eh, it may be the overwhelming soxtalk consensus that anderson is 100% the best choice, but I still have my doubts. This wouldn't have been an issue if anderson had not looked so atrocious at the plate last year. That's why I'm just gonna sit back and hope that the organization, which is much, much more informed on all factors for this decision, will make the best choice. Actually, that's why I'm curious to see what his numbers were post AS break in 'clutch' situations because even though he was batting about .250 (I think?), I'm having trouble recalling if he had any relevant hits (and I have bad memory). U nailed it buddy! Exactly the points I was trying to get across yesterday. Warning you though, people here don't believe the sox are really more informed than they are, and will be quick to point out all the screw ups of KW.
-
Ozzie doens't like BA because he sucks and can't handle pressure. Plain and simple
-
Looks like Sammy is having a pretty good spring .462 average
-
Lets go Danks!!!!!!!!!!!
-
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) I'm trying to figure out why we have Erstad? Isn't he the backup CF? Isn't Mack better as a corner OF? What is the team gaining by having the 2 out of position? Is this the PS3? No, Erstad will be our starting LF and BA will be our backup CF once the trade for Rowand is complete.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 03:18 PM) talent, skills, the fact that Aaron Rowand is at best a 4th of'er. And sure enough, that's where BA will probably end up this seasonl, a 4th outfielder. So I guess he's twice the player then. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 03:21 PM) Well, what does that say with ALL the information they had (that we apparently didnt') on Chris Young and Brian Anderson, that Williams traded Young with the idea Anderson would be our future CF? Attempting to acquire Rowand sort of suggests a major f*** up to me. Judging by your sig, I'll never win an argument with you cause appearenly all you do is question moves Kenny has made and anything related to the farm system.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 02:58 PM) The White Sox organization is FAR from perfect when it comes to personnel moves and all this Rowand talk only makes them look worse. They put all they're eggs in the basket of a 23 year old AAA OF, trading away a guy who some people for whatever reason seem to think is a pretty good player in Aaron Rowand and a potential 30/30 guy/top 12 prospect in all of baseball in Chris Young for a league average pitcher just to clear the way for the 23 year old. And now they're apparently scrambling trying to find a replacement for this failed major leaguer. Second/First guessing this organization when it comes to personnel decisions seems more than reasonable. My point was they know a lot more than you, I and everyone here and thats why they have the jobs they do. I'll sit back and leave it to them, afterall, these moves did bring me the pleasure of watching my team win a world series.
