QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 08:19 PM) i really believe that in 2011 a 2-3-4-5 of beckham, flowers, quentin, viciedo could be really good and really young Don't you mean a 1-2-3-4-5 of Danks, Beckham, Flowers, Quentin, Vicideo? I'm optimistically drooling at the idea of all them panning out ala the 90's Indians

Dye for Bailey and Dickerson, and if they're not ready to move homer take one of their promising MI

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 07:15 AM) Didn't Bailey lose a ton off his FB? For a guy who was always a thrower, not a pitcher, that would scare me. From what i've read hes been sitting mid 90's; they've been tweaking his mechanics and repertoire, i have a creeping suspicion they're trying to make him less of a thrower and more of a pitcher like jenks; that or he is off the "supplements"?

If the sox are shopping Jermaine i really hope Cincinnati has their ears open, they've got a great system and match up very very well with us. If we need a project pitcher why not go after Homer Bailey if they're ready to give up on him. Chris Dickerson is another interesting name, hes got a quick stroke through the zone and came up through their system playing CF he had a piece of bone removed from his left ankle for a stress fracture he should be ready for spring training. between AAA and The show he hit 17HR and stole 31 bases while being caught 11 times. To me he looks like a late bloomer ala Randy Winn, but with a bit more pop. If KW could acquire him he would fill our need of CF and he could easily bat lead off; Chris would also be 27 by opening day i think he would fit well with our core and its current window. In '07 Baseball America Rated Dickerson as the best out of the following categories in the reds organizaton: fastest baserunner, best athlete and best defensive outfielder. Here are his #'s at AAA .287/.384/.479 .862OPS, in the show .304/.413/.608 1.021OPS in 102 AB Ideally Dye for Homer and Dickerson; if they're not willing to give up on Bailey, Frazier or Valaika would be a nice pull. CF Dickerson L 2B Nix/Getz R/L RF Quentin R DH Thome L 1B Konerko R LF Swisher S SS Ramirez R C AJP L 3B Fields R I think KW will go into '09 hoping Nix/Getz & Fields develop ala Ramirez & Quentin, and i can see Slayer up by September. It should be very interesting. If KW can get both Bailey and Dickerson that would be huge, Id advocate keeping Javy then. MB JD GF JV HB Keeping richard in the pen to fulfill logan roles, and possibly even bringing up Poreda into the mix just to keep it interesting for Ozzie. If Bobby is going to the mets i would like to see a return of murphy holt and f-mart. If not keep him; we have no need to move him unless we are getting at least fair market value if not more.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 05:00 AM) I love Jose Reyes as much as anyone, but that's kind of a waste IMO. If we were going to trade one of Floyd/Danks - and caulfield is right, we're not getting a player the caliber of Reyes without trading one of those guys - then I'd rather shop around since we already have a pretty sweet SS on board. I mean, we could probably get Prince Fielder with that package and who knows what else. Alex Rios would be an option if he's available (whom I love and is signed through 2015 at a well below market rate), plus if the Jays for some reason do shop Halladay as had been rumored during the deadline then he'd be an option... I mean there would be so much out there we would be able to acquire for Floyd/Danks + Jenks that would fit better overall than Jose Reyes. Floyd + Jenks for Reyes and Murphy, would you pull the trigger?

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 8, 2008 -> 05:24 PM) Everyone isn't Alexei. As DA mentioned, 26 and 19 is a big difference. I'll be thrilled if the Sox sign this kid, but expecting him to start at 3rd base this year is a major reach at this point in time. Until hes in our system and crushing the ball in that warm thin AZ air in spring training .

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Nov 8, 2008 -> 10:15 AM) KW is in love with Reyes. .297, 16 HR, and 56 SBs. Yep that would solve our leadoff hitter hole for sure. I would even consider trading Jenks and Vazquez in a mega deal for Reyes and maybe Murphy. But then again im just dreaming out loud here. Im not sayin im just sayin. Having Reyes ontop of our lineup for many years is druel worthy! That would be epic, move Che to CF S Reyes SS L Murphy 2B R Quentin RF L Thome DH R Konerko 1B S Swisher LF R Ramirez CF L AJP C R Fields 3B Going into '10, either fields busts out or he busts; going around the diamond. DH - Konerko C - AJP 1B - Fields/Swisher 2B - Murphy SS - Reyes 3B - Beckham LF - Swisher/Danks/Ramirez CF - Ramirez/Danks RF - Quentin

QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 06:17 PM) how about we give KW the benefit of the doubt given the fact that he's done this over and over and over and every time people rip the decision and then we get CQ, Lexi, Loaiza, Thornton, Jenks, etc dont forget floyd

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Oct 26, 2008 -> 10:57 AM) Agreed, and you dont want to be on the recieving end of a Billy Beane pitcher trade why worked out pretty well for the braves

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 11:59 PM) If that is the case, I would LOVE to have Fielder, and would give up a ton to get him. Mo started to break down at age 34. Prince is 24. As a 32 year old, Mo still hit 36 HR's with an .863 OPS. +1 Personally i would like to see one of Weeks/Hardy on the south side next year I could see KW going hard after Hermida and Gregg. Moving Dye and Vazquez to get the prospects to get it done. I wouldnt be against CC coming here but i doubt it'll happen, Derek Lowe on the other hand.

and i for one would think they would be willing to deal perez because they've got Jennings and Royster, Ruggiano and Pedroza down on the farm.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 12:07 PM) Look at the stages of the careers some of those guys are at, some are moving quickly into arb years, such as Scott Kazmir for one. Winning always seems to mean people start looking for big contracts. ??? 09:$6M, 10:$8M, 11:$12M, 12:$13.5M club option ($2.5M buyout)

Would love to still be watching sox baseball but i love the off season suggestion thread. I'd prefer for KW to continue what hes great at, buying low and overpaying for young talent! Move Dye for prospects from any of the following organizations: Mets, Phillies, Reds, Dodgers, Rays, Yankees, Angels. Trade Vazquez to the brewers for Weeks and prospects. Keep fields and let him start at 3B did we forget in '07 he put up this line 244/308/480, his value is pretty low and he might only be keeping the hot corner warm for Beckham, if he proves him self healthy and puts up Glaus like numbers in '10 you can move him across the diamond and move PK to DH since thome will be coming off the books, if he sucks for '09 well he was only a place holder at the hot corner to begin with. He also never got a real chance to showcase his wheels at the ML level, and is still fairly young. If he completely fails we can give Getz a very long look or put uribe back out there. Trade most of the farm away for McLouth and Snell (Poreda, Allen, Shelby prospects from dye and vazquez) what ever need be. Sign Derek Lowe(yes hes a boras client) or Garcia Put Clayton in the Pen Pick up Toby's option Re up with uribe R Weeks 2B L McLouth CF R Quentin RF L Thome DH R Konerko 1B S Swisher LF R Ramirez SS L AJP C R Fields 3B Thats a team with alot of pop, alot of strike outs and above average speed. Above average defense in the OF, average defense in the infield, Weeks and Fields will make some spectacular plays, but occasionally boot the easy ones. Ramirez is the wild card he could be amazing, he could be average, and Paul has no range but decent hands. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 02:11 AM) Wow...we're going to have to give up a ton of talent to get McLouth (Poreda + ?), Beltre (Fields and what else?) and Hardy (Vazquez + ???) Are you going to get these using prospects from the Angels acquired for Dye? Who would be the 4th and 5th starters then? I'm assuming you have Swisher and Quentin playing the corners? McLouth will cost alot to get in terms of talent im seeing it as Poreda + Martinez + some/all of the prospects we would get from dealing Dye Beltre for Fields Egbert and Allen Hardy for Vazquez straight up. Line up would look something like this L McLouth CF R Hardy SS R Quentin RF L Thome DH R Konerko 1B R Beltre 3B S Swisher LF R Ramirez 2B L AJP C Mark John Gavin Freddy Clayton Jenks Linebrink Dotel Thornton Carrasco Russel/Waserman Logan Hall Getz Anderson Wise Ideally McLouth keeps developing and adds a nice dynamic at the top of the order. I understand this team wants to get faster but there is no reason we shouldn't play to our strengths. Also pick up all of Jaime Torre's new clients.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 12:03 AM) To add to wite, the Brewers will be cutting 10 million alone in Gagne coming off the books. With CC-Sheets-Gagne all coming off the books(others are as well, those are just the big 3), along with increased attendance and expectations, the Brewers will have money to play with. A solid starter with 2 years left could be very valuable to a franchise that doesn't want to get locked into a 7-8 year deal. agreed the brewers have a limited window in the sense that their young core is going to price themselves out of their reach and then they will have to pick and choose whom they want to build around going forward(braun). Javy at 11.5 for two years could shore up their staff and take some preasure off their young arms an BP your going to get 200IP and 200K and moving to the NL could help a bit too. Escobar could be ready to start at the bigs going into '09 making it a shrewd move to trade JJ. The more i think about possibilites for this offseaon i would love for the sox to just get the following. McLouth, Beltre, Hardy and sign Freddy and roll with it. hopefully G-Beckham can slot into 3B going into '10 even if their is some growing pains at the ML level and then we've got a core to lock up and push for the central for the next 6+ years if KW is smart and locks them up like so many other young stars. I can see the following teams having interest in Dye: Dodgers, Reds, Yankees, Rays, Angels

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 07:39 PM) Why would Milwaukee trade a 29 year old SS in what could be the start of his best years? I mean, sure, I'd love to give them Vazquez, MacDougal, and Fields for him, but I doubt it will happen. Because they have Escobar just about ready to step in and they need 2 starters for their team and Javy is cost effective for 2 more seasons the same amount as hardy before hes a FA.

Going into this offseason the sox need a CF, MI, 3B and a 4/5th starter. With this post season berth and a young likable core the sox attendance and interest shouldn't slump, and now that the cubs milestone has come to pass their spotlight will diminish a little bit going into '09. This year the sox did a great job of developing young players i would love to see that trend continue into '09. Trade Javy Vazquez and Dotel too the Brewers, Relief pitching will continue to be a premium and no way the brewers can keep Ben and CC. The Sox would get Hardy back and two prospects a 3B and C: two of the following Gamel/Green Lucroy/Salome Hardy is going to continue to be ARB eligible and according to cot's; hes due for a raise beyond 2.65M and they have Alcides Escobar ready to step into SS. As for the prospects they've got depth at both positions in the minors and Bill Hall can always go back to SS if need be. They would be taking on 29M in contracts between both of them for 09/10. As for the prospects the sox system even with a good draft in 08 still needs a drastic overhaul. Trade one of PK/Dye to the Angels/NYY for Figgins and prospects. Go big and go after McClouth Sign Garcia and Let Richard and others battle it out for 5th Starter S Figgins 3B R Hardy SS L McClouth CF R Quentin RF L Thome DH R Konerko 1B S Swisher LF R Ramirez 2B L AJP C Mark John Gavin Freddy Clayton Jenks Linebrink Thornton Carrasco Russell Broadway
