QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 09:58 AM) That is actually a pretty good one, as he shows about as much emotion as a death row inmate... Or it's just a motif for how much of a badass Quentin is. I mean, would YOU want to be the jail for the worst criminals in America? It takes a BAMF prison.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 09:36 AM) 2006? Honestly, I may be more excited about this year than '06. Simply because, for the first time since I've been a Sox fan, we have a legit, #1 ACE pitcher who is going to make hitters look silly year round... AND WE GET TO WATCH HIM! Lucky us, as White Sox fans, to get this opportunity to watch Jake Peavy. This man knows how to pitch...

Interesting.. I would have flipped the two rankings myself. Who is this guy though? I don't think I've ever seen him before.

Wood's 20 K's vs Buehrle's perfect game

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 01:42 AM) Took me a minute to get that. I was this close to buying a gray Knights Beckham jersey they were selling like at the stadium, one week before he was called up. Aren't you glad you didn't? I can't wait to get a Beckham jersey this summer. -
No wonder why Brian Anderson could never hit...

I don't remember BA getting released by the Red Sox. Poor guy, I always liked him. He sucked though, in the end, and just a glove doesn't cut it these days, especially when the bat is THAT bad. Good luck with whatever he ends up doing though! -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) My only reply to this the MLB.com box score for Buehrle's game. Obviously you're a Beckham fan... -
If possible, I'd like the "345" dropped from my name. It would be much appreciated!

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 10:24 PM) I remember when he first was on the trading block, I wanted him badly. But the Sox weren't on his list of teams and I was sad. Then we got him, I remember being amped and telling my Sox-Fan Spanish teacher. He too was amped. Then he turned it down. Then he accepted! Then always right in the world. Yeah, I remember reading the posts over at that over Sox forum (blanking), and people debating all night whether or not this poster had any real sources or not. I ended up believing it and was convinced he was coming, but obviously I was let down. Then it happened, AGAIN, and I couldn't believe it! It sucked too because he was injured, and I had to look at the roster everyday and see his name.. anticipating. It was rough. Good things come to those who wait, I guess.

Wood's 20 K's vs Buehrle's perfect game

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 12:51 AM) http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SD...200107180.shtml Holy crap, that's incredible. 5 K's away from a perfect 7 innings of all K's! Makes me love the guy even more. Can't believe I have never heard of that game before, though. -
Jake Peavy and Gordon Beckham are definitely the two players I can't WAIT to start watching again. Peavy's three starts last year just got me so fired up about this staff. I used to gush over Peavy to my Padres fan friend back in high school, and I NEVER imagined he'd actually be playing for my team someday. I'm like a kid at Christmas!

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 01:30 AM) It's weird to think that when I first saw the thread title, my first thought was "ok, we get it... he's an intense competitor, sweet...". I was almost getting sick of being inundated with stories about how amped Peavy is to pitch, and to pitch for US. And then I took a step back and thought "niiiice... every other team would KILL for a Cy Young pitcher that is just dying to get the ball", and here I am thinking that it's overkill to see all these stories about how excited he is. Hell, I LOVE this. Burls is an amazing pitcher, Floyd and Danks are amazing in their own right, but we now have that stud pitcher with attitude, the drive to teach (and more importantly) lead and drive others on the team. Buerhle is awesome for everything he does, but his strength is not in the clubhouse, it's on the field. I really think Peavy will be an awesome fit here, psyched to have him. : I agree with everything but the bolded part. Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Danks cited Buehrle as one of the sources for helping him develop his new cutter? And as far as I know, everyone in the clubhouse loves Mark Buehrle. If anything, I feel Buehrle is more loved for his off the field charisma than anything else. I mean, lets face it, hes not ALWAYS awesome on the mound, but people will ALWAYS love him. And did you know he allowed cameras to come film his dogs? He was in an episode on Animal Planet of some show, showing of his kick ass dogs. And because of that, my fiance loves the guy too (she was a Wildlife major)! This guy is a class act, through and through.

That's awesome! Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but this does just reaffirm what we all know: the White Sox organization is definitely one of the best! GO SOX GO!

What about Mark's No Hitter + Mark's Perfect against Wood's 20 Ks? -
How many games will this team win in 2010?
TitoMB345 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I said 82-86 but just as a hunch. I don't really know and haven't had time to follow any thing this spring. Can't wait for opening day though! -
QUOTE (kev211 @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 01:02 PM) Why would the twins trade Thome to us if they were still in the playoff hunt? ... clearly I didn't put much thought into this.
-
1. Ozzie won't be punished for any remarks this year. 2. Jake Peavy goes 24-3 and wins the AL Cy Young. 3. White Sox trade for Jim Thome in a move that spurs us to a playoff run. 4. Jim Thome hits GW HR in game 163 against what is now his former team, the Twins. 5. Sox win the World Series over the Cubs.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) I really hate doing the "what if" game but if Quentin hypothetically only puts up like .250 25 .800, it's entirely possible for the rest of the lineup to make that up. Beckham could be an .850+ OPS bat this season, Konerko should be anywhere from .800-.875, Rios should be around .775-.800, but could realistically put up .850, AJ will probably put up .750, Teahen should put up around .750, and Ramirez should be around that .750 too. As you mentioned, it's lacking one real big bat, but there's a lot of depth in that lineup. I didn't include Pierre, Kotsay, or Jones because both Pierre and Kotsay are low ceiling players, and Jones seems to be boom or bust. I do agree that a huge year from Quentin will help make a lot of these question marks a hell of a lot easier to deal with. How many games do you think a lineup like that is going to win? It seems reasonable, and I agree that we could survive with a .250 25 .800 from Q, but I'm not sure this is division winning material.
-
I don't know. It's got potential, but it still seems to be lacking one more bat (not gonna say it). This lineup looks a hell of a lot better to me if Quentin were coming off his '08 campaign, so it comes down to him. High ceiling if he returns (in some way) to his old form, and pretty lackluster if he pulls a post-injury '09.

QUOTE (striker @ Mar 20, 2010 -> 06:41 PM) He can suck all spring training as long as he hits solid the past few games. That should help his confidence and hopefully build some momentum for the season. Yeah, I agree with this. I think it's the last 5 games that really matter. How many games are left? I have had zero time to follow spring baseball so far.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 20, 2010 -> 05:49 PM) If you are going to spell out Spring Training, then I am going to spell out Mark's last name.... T-E-A-H-E-N lol owned.

Actually, I would have gone with Peavy for the 5th spot. His innings last year with us were awesome, ha. He was 3-0, with a 1.35 ERA, 344 ERA+, .850 WHIP, with 18 K's in 20.0 IP. Honestly, I'm just kidding, but I do have a huge man crush on this guy already. Can't wait for the season to start!
-
Well, it's safe to say the 10's decade team will include Peavy, Danks, and Floyd, and most likely Buehrle unless he really does retire.
-
White Sox All-Decade Team What do you guys think? Besides my obvious hate of the pick of Juan Uribe, the only one I question/laugh at is John Danks as one of the 5 best starting pitchers. I would have gone with Loaiza for 2003, like the article states.
