So who are you hearing in that area Rex? I still think Paul Johnson is the hire to make honestly, but it seems Paul Bryant, Jr is longing for that 'wow' name still that really isn't out there, we'll see. -

I don't have any feelings for Bama either way. I just think that Bama fans need to get a grip on reality and see things how they really are....the Alabama head coaching job is not this end all, be all elite position that all the head coaches in the country line up to have a shot at. Bama fans think that they can just say "Our head coach position is available" and have every elite coach line up, its not true anymore. This isn't your fathers Alabama team. Every college team in America has some misguided fans, but if you read the Alabama forums, you'll see that they are just downright delusional. Its not always about how much money you can throw at someone, thats something that the Alabama BOT can't seem to figure out. -

Yes, there is a degree of coachspeak that goes on everywhere...BUT...WVU was RRods alma mater, his 'dream job', all that he wants in a job!!! Coachspeak is one thing, blatant lying to the kids that put faith in what you tell them directly, over and over, is a bit too far for my likes. -
Here comes Operation:Non-roster Invitee to save the ChiSox day!! I'm really just not sure how I feel about the landscape of our team these days, I'm pretty disheartened by the stance that JR and KW have taken after waiting so long to see such great attendance numbers.

I see RRod took the Dennis Franchione route in college coaching. You know, tell everyone how you are the happiest you've been at a specific school, your alma mater, how no other job in the world would make you happy....all the while getting those travel plans together to slither out the back door. Good luck living up to asinine expectations at a school where you will forever be in the shadow of an alcoholic, iconic figure. Don't let the coaching turnstyle at Uof A hit your ass on the way out in a couple years either. -
Now if only they would be a good judge on not going for guys who top out at 92 MPH and throw junk, we'd be doing alot better in the amateur drafts!!

If what Kalapse mentioned is the case, then VWells can keep on a looking elsewhere...when I think of $20 million dollar players(sad that there is such a thing, but thats another argument), I don't see Wells in my mind.

Heh, you two are killing me here!! Speaking of killing...did you know that Harmon "The Killer" Killebrew wasn't exactly a killer in the Postseason? .250/.444/.500/.944 Ok ok, I'm done!

Garcia to Philly for Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez
Capn12 replied to BobDylan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 07:07 AM) Say how did the Mariners get Freddy Garcia again? I'm not trying to say Freddy = RJ in his prime, but teams do give up multiple prospects for one year rentals. Hell the Astros gave up Garcia, Hullien and Halama for 2 months of RJ. Garcia is a lock to net two draft pick as well if he doesn't come back. Actually it's more like: Rowand, Haigwood, Morse, Bradford, Reed for Thome, Floyd, $$$ and 2.5 years of Garcia and one WS Championship DBAH0 kinda stole my thunder already, but thats a completely different situation...when you have a team, near the trade deadline in JULY, that knows they need one big arm to put them over the top for a stretch run, then the costs get high. We came into this offseason knowing we had 6 starters in a 5 man rotation. There is no strain to improve a team at all costs like there is say...July 31st during a season. Thats not saying I think KW got an outstanding deal or anything, but I don't think he did as bad as all the armchair GMs are whining about on here either... -

Well.....Horatio Ramirez also has at least 3 more years of Seattle control before being a FA, AND is coming off a managable $2.2 mil contract. Granted, the Braves still fleeced Bavasi and the Mariners, but still...Garcia is a FA to be, making $10 mill this coming year...how many top prospects are you gonna really get for someone that is gonna walk after 1 year... -
Hope the day treats you well!

There you go throwing logic and common sense into SoxTalk, whitesox61382....theres no room for such here, most GMs here woulda got ALOT more than that for Garcia on MLB2k7!! -
Tomorrow, Spurrier will get the first QB he has REALLY been after since arriving at South Carolina, Stephen Garcia out of Tampa. Things are looking good for the OBC.
-
And yet, we are STILL basing Floyds numbers on half a season with Philly, as a 23 year old, with 108 IP career in the majors....Awesome foresight!!

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 01:01 AM) I thought you only hated Podsednik? I know not who this "Podsednik" person is you reference. I have chosen to put a mental block on that name, so no idea who that is!! -

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 12:57 AM) I might be the only one, but I dreaded games where Garcia was pitching. I never was confident we'd win with him on the mound, and I hated knowing how slow he'd work and how a walk turned into a double. I'm excited at the thought of watching McCarthy start next year. No Fathom, I'm pretty sure that I was vocal in EVERY start he made...at least we get 5 innings of non-craptastic effort from Javy when HE pitches...I'm a huge Garcia opponent, so I don't mind us ridding ourselves of him -

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 12:34 AM) Well, this article is downright scary. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines If KW isn't bluffing, things are about to get very ugly. So much for extending the deals on our starters. Heh....well congrats Sox Fans on that 2005 World Championship!! Now its time to rebuild after this amazing dynasty run! KW better just be shooting off at the mouth, like he enjoys doing alot. Gio, BMac, McCulloch, Broadway, Phillips.....a starting rotation to strike fear in all the masses! -

The SQL gremlins are back on the board tonight!! Double posts a plenty!! After thinking about it for a bit, I'm not too bothered by the move. I know that watching Freddy Garcia pitch in 2006 resulted in some of the most agonizing baseball viewing that you can go through....a seemingly indifferent attitude from a supposed stud pitcher, never knowing what he was going to give you.....I'll gladly take that $10 mill off the ledger, and spend it on better options. -

Good lord...why on earth ANYONE here would be discussing Mr. Ego himself, Barry Bonds, is beyond me. Lets worry about settling the REAL needs right now...shakey leadoff hitter, CFer since it seems BA wore his welcome out somehow in 1 season, pitching that is consistent... -

Heh...its not gonna happen...not sure how many more different ways Spurrier can say no. Rehashed yet again... Bammer is in some trouble if they think they are gonna pull a huge name into the coaching mess they have there. It should start with the firing of Mal Moore tbh, and see what happens from there. -

My thing is, how do you entice a coach to come to your school, after going through 4 coaches in 7 years....thats the definition of a turnstyle position IMO. Bammer fans forget that Shula was one season removed from a 10 win campaign. This isn't their fathers Alabama team, the SEC football teams are ALOT more balanced out overall. I just think that the Tide fans are a bit delusional if they think that some huge name coach wants to step into that black hole right now. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 06:04 PM) Why of course! All kinds of rumors flying about the deal getting done with his agent Jimmy Sexton on Saturday, which is why they waited until Sunday to decide to make things final with Shula. Of course, the radio folks in South Carolina are saying "no freakin way". You hear anything? lol No chance that Spur leaves USC right now....what would be the benefit of going somewhere to perpetually live in the shadows of a drunken, plaid hat wearing has-been? He has this USC team right where he wants them, Top 10-15 class coming in, competitive with anyone in the SEC, and things are getting better. Though, it seems no matter how many times he says "I'm not going anywhere" in the press, the Bammer faithful spin it into something ludacris like "well he said he doesnt intend to leave USC, that doesnt mean he won't DECIDE to!" So sad to see the revolving door that is Bammer football coaches.
