  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 27, 2014 -> 10:37 AM) The compensation will be in the form of draft picks, I don't think SF is going to hold on to him so people will send them money compensation. The thing is, San Francisco can do what they want, he is under contract. If they are really concerned about him going to another NFL team, they are gonna force that team to pay out the nose. If he is going to sign with UM, well they might as well fire him because UM cannot offer any sort of compensation. I'm curious how they can over reassurance that he signs with UM though I think the big push by Michigan makes trading him a moot point. Chances are he winds up in Ann Arbor, but if not, I don't think SF is going to be compensated for his services. The ties are going to be cut pretty quickly. Plus is Michigan even looking anywhere else? I am starting to believe the done deal reports.
  2. If Garza re-signing means Emery is back, I cannot believe the Bears would let Phil Emery select another head coach.
  3. QUOTE (gatnom @ Dec 26, 2014 -> 03:14 PM) If they could hit a field goal, or if they called the pass interference on the interception, we'd be right in it. Oh well, at least we didn't look like a terrible football team today. Progress? They aren't playing a good team. Cody Sokol was the 3rd or 4th string QB at Iowa, and Iowa isn't very good. Bad teams miss kicks and fumble at bad times. There were extra practices, maybe they can grow, but ultimately, they won't be good until they get a different coach.
  4. QUOTE (OsweGo-Go Sox @ Dec 26, 2014 -> 12:58 PM) Facetious? No. There was an article about Piazza and steroids several years ago. It was mentioned his back had a ton of zits, one common side effect. He is obviously considered a steroid user by some, or there is no way he's not a first ballot HOFer as a catcher, and I think this is his 3rd year of eligibilty, and he looks to be barely above the cutoff.
  5. How is it Piazza doesn't get caught into the steroid backlash? His back was loaded with zits.
  6. Zobrist is a really unique player. It took him to age 27 to be above replacement, and since, he has pretty much been a sabermetric superstar. And he is still not all that well known around baseball. Last year there were rumors he was available and a lot of posts on here about him being a decent bench piece. He is 34 in May, on the last year of his contract, so his price tag should be lower than it has been. I would love the White Sox to get him, but not for Anderson +. 2 years ago, I would. If he has another good year, his next contract will be very interesting. Will he get paid like the saber star he is or will he get paid like the middle 30s fairly unknown guys he is? I would guess in the middle. (Out on a huge limb)
  7. QUOTE (Douglas Rome @ Dec 26, 2014 -> 11:08 AM) I may be new here, but I ain't no whippersnapper and I ain't no troll. I started watching/listening to White Sox baseball when I was about 9 or 10yrs old and this Feb I will be 69yrs old. I seen every manager from the 50s to date and Ventura is one of the worse we have had. Yes, personality does count, and he has zero, you want the Sox to be front page of the funny papers? You gotta have a spokesman who commands attention. Remember Ditka? The best part of those years was watching him, he kept the team in the funnies. Most of you guys are still wet behind the ears compared to me, so please don't opine me that I don't know what I'm talking about. thanks, douglas Why did White Sox attendance drop the last 5 consecutive years of Ozzie's tenure? Why did the Bears fire Ditka? Why did the Saints fire Ditka? Why did the Marlins choose to pay Ozzie NOT to manage than actually manage? How many times have you had a conversation with Robin Ventura? You take postgame press conferences as proof a guy doesn't have personality. They have a charity event where Robin does some sort of stand up act, and for a guy who you claim has zero personality, it goes over pretty well. He is supposedly a pretty funny guy, and that he chooses to keep clubhouse matters in the clubhouse earns him points from his players. The era of the yeller and screamers and guys starved for attention are over. Players don't respond to that anymore. Most people don't respond to that anymore. I think the majority of people here who work for someone (even the people who want the White Sox or Bears or whoever to hire a guy that would scream and yell) would rather not be yelled at when they mess up, and if they are probably don't think the yelling will make them better. There are ways to hold players "accountable" other than calling them out in public in a loud tone.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 26, 2014 -> 09:07 AM) Let me put it this way. Let's say for some crazy reason the math works out that Moncada takes $50 million to get here, when bonus and taxes are included. $50 million to the White Sox is what we are going to pay Chris Sale, Jose Quintana, Jose Abreu, Alexei Ramirez, David Robertson, and Adam LaRoche in 2015... combined. Does anyone really see them finding that kind of money, again, and spending it on a 19 year old Cuban prospect? If the White Sox had another $50 million to spend on the team in 2015, they would be looking at guys like Max Scherzer, not Yoan Moncada. It doesn't seem like something they would do, but if they think he is going to be a star, why not finance it?
  9. We already have some of the same posters mentioning the weaknesses of this team in one post, mentioning that any White Sox failure this season is on Ventura in another. Blame the managers all you want. The reality is, you have to be careful what you wish for. Just about every fanbase is unhappy with their manager if they have crappy players. Joe Maddon actually took a lot of grief in Tampa. It's the players that make the difference. All the Cubs managers that were mentioned, have finished in last place at some time. Even Maddon has finished in last place. If you don't have the horses, you can't win. Robin may screw up and need to be fired. It was interesting that advanced stats said he used his bullpen better than most in 2014. I would have thought, reading gamethreads, anyone in the world was doing a better job. All the criticism about his personality is ridiculous. By all accounts, the people who know him don't find him boring at all. I am more concerned about what happens the 3 1/2 hours prior to the postgame press conference, than the answers to the same questions after that time is up.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 24, 2014 -> 08:28 AM) He's feelin' it. Please, God, don't take this away from us again. He inadvertantly smacked an assistant coach right in the face if that video continued for a couple more seconds.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 06:47 PM) That doesn't make what I said any less true. Harbaugh would be the first successful NFL coach to go back to college. Bill Walsh
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 03:06 PM) Yeah, we heard Emery rationalize that last year. But ultimately you had the bills trading up like crazy, browns trading down, etc etc. It happens. Emery also traded up to get Brock Vereen so...guess who has only 5 picks again. Hub Arkush: "Brock Vereen can't play."
  13. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 02:46 PM) #FREEFALES He has a very appropriate name for a Bears QB.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 02:07 PM) I hope Cutler doesn't go rogue and throw for 400 with 4 TDS. Bears lock up the 7th pick with a loss. They need a guy who knows what he is doing with the 7th pick. You look at the last 20 or so first round picks, in hidsight there are only at most 4 or 5 worthy of being selected in the first round, and there are several top 10 picks.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 01:45 PM) Clausen concussed, Cutler will start sunday HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA He did take that shot to the head. You can't make up what happens with the Bears anymore.
  16. QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) Not sure how the number might translate, but Phil Rogers tweeted that Avi has hit .312 w/5 HRs, 22 RBIs, and an.894 OPS in 34 Venezuelan winter games. It's better than the alternative, but still doesn't mean very much. Leury Garcia is hitting about .340 in the Domincan League. I don't think that will cause any excitement.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) The nicest place to watch a game is from your own couch Usually I would agree, but Soldier Field 300 level first few rows around midfield is very nice, and you get a better view of a play developing than you do on TV. At least before it gets too cold. I would rather watch from my couch than freeze or get soaked. They are swapping out the video boards with a couple supposed to be 3 times as large next season, which will be great for replays.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 01:24 PM) They should also have something other than the smallest stadium in the league, but well. Unless you are on the season ticket waiting list, why would anyone care? It isn't like, without a dome, they have a legit shot at hosting a Super Bowl even if they sat 100k. At least now, it's a pretty nice place to watch a football game.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 01:07 PM) I think Glazer even indicated they were the perceived front-runners. Hopefully Glazer has a good source on this! Helps that the Phins are out. I can't see them ponying up the money Michigan is reported to be willing to pay, but it depends what he wants. Does he really want to go on the road and try recruiting 17 and 18 year olds? Plus, if he did win with the Bears, he would be like Ditka. He would have huge income the rest of his life. Can the Bears convince him he can win?
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 12:52 PM) Psh, hope the Bears sign him immediately. According to Glazer, they are interested.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 10:01 AM) Comcast SportsNet ‏@CSNChicago 1m1 minute ago Nate Jones plans to start throwing in early January (@CSNHayes) -- http://bit.ly/1sQr1lM #WhiteSox #WhiteSoxTalk Anything they get out of him in 2015 should be considered gravy. Hopefully he can be really good in 2016.
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 09:54 AM) I understand for his own sake he has to say that he didnt do it on purpose but damn, just go with "No comment". That was really terrible, im really glad that Ego didnt get his ankle broken or tear his achilles What I don't get is how he ever expected to get away with it. There are so many cameras. These games are reviewed, guys get fined for things we never see on the broadcast. Yet here he is right in the center of things. I'm guessing he probably isn't very good at solving equations.
  23. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 09:45 AM) Also, Dominic Raiola is a piece of crap. For him to say he didn't do that on purpose............C'mon man. IMO, there is no reason for him to be allowed to play next week. That was blatant. They should penalize him like that knocked Ferguson out for the season. That appears to be the intent.
  24. QUOTE (Boogua @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 09:28 AM) It's not as though any TD passes were dropped. I don't know how one can credit them with another 10-13 possible points in that case. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, though, and neither of us can be proven right or wrong. The only fact remains that the Bears put up 14 points. Yes they did, but drops aren't on the QB. I am not saying Clausen is the answer, but this is one of the better defenses in the NFL, and excuses have been made for Cutler since day 1. How about for a guy who basically hasn't played in 4 years, playing without his #1 receiver, his best OL, against the #2 defense in the league, and his receiving corp comes up with a bad case of the drops? I think if anything, it shows just how bad Cutler has been this year. He basically hasn't been better than Jimmy f***ing Clausen. 28 points in a game is their high water mark.
  25. QUOTE (Boogua @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 08:52 AM) How do you know they would've had "a lot" more points? McCown had a lot of success in between the 20s, but had some issues in the red zone. Yesterday the Bears were stopped at the goal line also. We have no idea how many points they should or would have scored. If not for the muffed punt and the roughing the kicker they could have gotten shut out. The muffed punt occurred right after a missed pass interference penalty which could have been a TD, so call that even. Clausen also got hit on a pass at the 2 yard line by Suh, who beat Ola who was in there for Long. I think they would have had at least one more TD, maybe another FG or 2 if they cut the drops in half.
