AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WALKOFF WINNER!
Viciedo's throw earlier wound up saving a run, setting up his dramatics.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 01:45 PM) That's probably why the Royals targeted him: taking 12/18 from us wasn't good enough He gave up 1 earned in over 29 innings against the Sox last year. His NL ERA was 6.32, and against everyone else while pitching in a KC uniform 4.52.

Guthrie was pretty awful against everyone but the White Sox last year, wasn't he?

QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 01:33 PM) Wait... wait. Hawk thinks highly of Salvador Perez? This is news to me.... For someone who complains about someone saying the same thing over and over again and being predictable, you sure do say the same things over again and are very predictable. Besides, Stone praises Perez more than Perez' mother praises him.

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
QUOTE (farmteam @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 12:15 PM) I'm not saying they will do it, I'm saying if they want a competitive basketball program they have to do it. I know they promised Tubby new facilities -- I'm curious if the fact that there's a different AD now (Norwood Teague, the guy who hired Anthony Grant and Shaka Smart at VCU) will change that. I'm hopeful it will, but I have my doubts. Supposedly he and Tubby were feuding because Tubby kept asking about the upgrades.

2012-2013 NBA thread
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 10:26 AM) Adidas has nothing to gain from him not playing, on their brand-new $250 million investment This is where I will disagree. If he is not dominant when he comes back, his brand, at least temporarily takes a hit. If Adidas has some sort of insurance, that could possibly cover them for almost a year and a half. They drag out "The Return" and depending on the policy, if they have one which I have no idea, have someone else pay DRose the entire $30 or so million he was due or at least a decent chunk, while rehabbing. He comes back next season perhaps a stronger player than he would if he was limited in minutes this year, keeping his brand strong. Obviously, if DRose was back at full strength and led the Bulls to a nice playoff run, that would be a different story.

Should be a little warmer today. Floyd in April usually is pretty ugly, but so has been the Sox vs. KC lately until this week.

2012-2013 NBA thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 09:33 AM) Except that it is Rose, not the Bulls, who are stalling. That's what it at least appears. Could Adidas have some sort of insurance on him missing a season? Considering they pay him more than the Bulls, dragging out "The Return", and collecting several million seems like good business. There is something more at play than his knee. He's been practicing at a high level too long for that. Maybe it is just Reggie, but I'm thinking there is more.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 09:13 AM) Enter KC Johnson (this AM) to kick you in the balls. He's good at that. Listen, KC Johnson said months ago that he didn't think Rose would play this year. Somehow, we all hoped he'd be wrong. F*ck. He's right. Just look at how he continues to write, too (with the bolded). Rose returning is now a long-shot. See you in 2013/14, kid. Oh yeah, he'll be 25 when the season starts, having effectively not played in an NBA game since he was 23. It would be understandable if they said he was struggling in practice or not quite up to speed, but everyone who has seen him in scrimmages says he's dominating. It's not that he still doesn't trust his knee. That's all BS. There is something else.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 09:03 AM) I am still a huge Rose fan, and if they announced tonight he was in the starting lineup against Brooklyn I will delete everything I ever said criticizing and doubting him and act like a b**** Call it conspiracy paranoia, but I believe Rose sitting out is financially motivated. I believe someone has insurance on his contract. We all know how stingy the Bulls are with their money. Now that they are in luxury tax territory and probably not going to get a windfall of a long postseason run, getting some cash for DRose's contract seems like some motivation. And I also wouldn't be surprised if Adidas has some sort of insurance as well.

2013 TV Thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 08:42 AM) I watched this episode last night and didn't see anything to suggest that's what happened. The bodyguard's hands were shown the entire scene, so that would have to be an off-camera surprise. He's either a goner or they're going to stretch it out until next season (he wasn't in the trailer at all for the finale). Also, I agree that the Frank doing a good deed was totally out of character and pretty stupid. In every other similar circumstance he would have grabbed the stolen goods and sneaked away from the house. I don't think Jimmy is going to get killed for the simle reason the previews make it seem like he will.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 03:18 PM) Macdougal is the first one I thought of. Also Boone Logan who is somehow still in the league. Seems almost impossible if MacDougal came in with the bases loaded runs would not score.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 03:16 PM) Let's hope the good Lindstrom shows up today. He's the last guy you want pitching with the bases loaded. Marmol would be a lot worse. Or Mike MacDougal.

QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 02:54 PM) God I wish someone higher up to tell Hawk to shut the f*** up about the Royals. It's a defeatist attitude that permeates everyone who watches the game, and I wouldn't be shocked if it gets into the player's heads too. He used to do the same s*** with the Twins of 6-7 years ago. It's real old. It certainly was in their heads about Min. a few years ago. They lost before the game started. It doesn't appear to be the same with KC. Yet.

As long as you catch the ball before you fall out of play its OK. Once you are out of play, and I believe that means making contact with a seat or the ground or whatever the ground rule, you are out of play. You catch a ball while you are out of play, it doesn't count as a catch.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 01:08 PM) Has Alford ever apologized for his "mistake" of trusting Pierce and for the statements he made to the press at the time that amounted to calling the victim a liar? I'm sure a lawyer would advise him not to say another word.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 12:20 PM) Right, so trusting Pierce was a mistake that is completely forgivable. Issuing a statement that you support your players, believe he is innocent and that an investigation will clear him is a 100% reasonable thing to do. But, uh, you keep forgetting a critical part. You know, the part where Alford decided to pressure the girl into silence. The part where he tried to prevent a legitimate investigation into a sexual assault from taking place. The part where he abused his power and position to attempt to silence the voice of a victim. The part where he was a moral monster. That is his mistake, not trusting Pierce. Plenty of people believe friends and family members to be innocent without trying to silence the alleged victims, because that is an unquestionably s***ty and immoral thing to do. I really hope you have some sort of blinders in this case and don't actually think Alford's actions are legit simply because he "trusted the wrong person" when applied broadly. Because that's a pretty f***ed view. One other thing to consider is the girl was a student/athlete. The athletic department probably was more involved because of it. I don't find his actions legit, I believe he should have stayed out of it, let the others handle it,but he cared about his player and knew if he was convicted of this crime he didn't believe his player committed would ruin the guy's life. If you think a person close to you is being falsely accused of rape, wouldn't you think the person accusing them is lying? But again, it all came down to trusting what Pierre Pierce had to say. If he truly thought he was lying, he would have thrown him off the team. Why isn't Bernstein going after the University or the AD? They didn't even throw him out of school.
