  1. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 05:28 PM) I agree about the 2013 outfield, seems pretty set to me and I think we're better off giving Mitchell a full season at AAA next year. However, I think there's a good chance we trade Rios before the 2014 season. Mitchell should be ready by then or else he's probably flopped out. Plus De Aza will be a 2nd year arb player, so getting Rios' salary off the books would free up some money for De Aza and other needs. As for Thompson & Walker, I don't see either of them challenging for major league jobs before 2015 at the earliest. Honestly, if Mitchell pans out, we most likely won't even have an opening in our OF until 2016. By then Hawkins might be a serious prospect and we won't want to commit to any other young OFs until he is ready. I see both Thompson & Walker being trade bait in the not too distant future. Mitchell would be trade bait if I were the GM. Football players are almost always behind in developing anyway and missing a year hurts that. If Hawkins develops like the Sox think, Mitchell is more than expendable. I would definitely consider trading him for something that gets the Sox into the playoffs.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 05:19 PM) in before "23 other teams passed up on Trout as well." The Sox also passed on Pujols several times. The point I'm making is the White Sox and some fans have been using their draft position as an excuse for not developing a lot of good players in the past decade. They have had opportunities to draft a lot of good ones. Of course, the problem could have been in their developmental personnel. Had they had drafted guys like Trout, Pujols, Pedroia (I'm cherrypicking, I know) maybe they don't become the players they became. It does help a team, especially one where payroll is always under discussion, to develop some home grown stars. Maybe the Sox are turning a corner, but if they had Trout and he was as good as he is now, Anthony Rizzo wouldn't be page 5 news. I wonder where he was on the Sox board.
  3. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 04:25 PM) You mean he becomes qualified for it, right? Because there is no way in hell he has a chance against Mike Trout. If Trout got hurt tomorrow, there would be a shot. What if the Sox drafted Trout instead of Mitchell?
  4. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 12:32 PM) Either (A) Crain is going on DL or (B) Humber will be back to take what would be Axelrod's next start, so they are just getting an extra reliever for 4 games since neither Humber nor Axelrod can pitch during that time. I think Crain is going on the DL.
  5. Greg has fully been addicted to Guillen kool aid. Just like Oney and all the others, if Ozzie's team fails, there are fingers to be pointed in every direction except one. Ironically, if you gave him a team with HOFers at every position and they won, the reason would be Ozzie. If Ozzie was half as great and influenced the outcomes of games as much as some believe, there is no way the Marlins would be where they are right now. He was effective when he was about winning. When it became all about money, Ozzie became a below average MLB manager, as the results indicate. Maybe he can get it back, but it would be hard. Once you're stopped taken seriously, its not often anyone, at least players, will reverse that thinking. Ozzie and Ditka are pretty similar.
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 06:41 AM) And apparently, Robin never ordered a replacement copy of that manual. Again, Ohman faced a higher percentage of LH hitters this year than any other year in his career. While it would have been ideal Ohman never face RH hitters, it was not practical, except if he was taken off the roster.
  7. Good thing the Sox are playing Tank everyday and not platooning him to boost his trade value.
  8. You get a win with Axelrod starting against the Yankees............it just may be your year.
  9. Huge win. Most of us, if not all, assumed loss.
  10. That's the Andruw Jones I remember.
  11. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 08:54 PM) Interesting: substituting Tflo for AJ. Love the look on AJ's face! Yeah, AJ is livid Robin didn't let him go back behind the plate after getting lifted for a pinch runner.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 08:53 PM) If Wise hurts us here I will be quite sick. He won't. He's leading off.
  13. But a big crooked number............
  14. Why is Dan Johnson in Charlotte
  15. Everytime Marty mentions dumping Tank, he comes up huge.
  16. That was a sweet throw
  17. Oh for the long one
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 02:44 AM) Guess I'm the only one kind of bummed by this. With apparent attitude issues aside (as briefly mentioned above), Ohman is one of the few guys on the roster I can say that Ventura has perfectly mishandled. Perhaps part of it is the fact that Ventura does not like Ohman and that Ohman is not well liked in the clubhouse, so then it's a totem pole game, but Ohman is and has been great against lefties this year (.186/.250/.281/.513) and for the duration of his career (.210/.294/.308/.571). He can't get righties out. This has been the book on him for a while. Yet Ventura continued to use him in an inning eating and long relief role, which will simply lead opposing managers to just take all of their mediocre lefties out of the lineup in place of inferior righties who can and will hit Ohman to death. At this point, the Sox need a guy who can eat innings, regardless of handedness. Leesman seems like a perfectly legitimate candidate at this point in time. I will name Santos Rodriguez as a wildcard, for shiz and gigz Many people have stated Ohman was mishandled. The facts indicate he faced a higher percentage of LH hitters this year than any other in his career. If Ventura mishandled him, so did every other manager. If he can't get RH hitters out at all, he is now where he belongs, off any major league roster, although I feel he won't have trouble hooking up with someone.
  19. Conor Jackson is better than Dan Johnson.
  20. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 12:48 PM) If he was released, he should have been paid the remainder of his 2012 salary on the spot. His salary from that date on is $0. They keep getting paid the same way. Whatever the contract stipulates. Its not a lump sum payment unless the contract called for it, which I've never heard of and might not be approved. The Red Sox have to pay him, but they receive money from the Cubs. The Cubs agreed to send money to Boston to pay Byrd. Now that Byrd isn't getting paid, I'm sure they would want out of that responsibility, at least 50 games worth. It will be interesting to see if MLB has to rule on it. Boston and the Cubs may be fighting again. Technically, when you pay a portion of a contract to a player you have traded, you are really just sending money to the other team. In other words, if the Red Sox were able to trade Byrd before releasing him , they are not obligated to send the money they receive from the Cubs to the next team. Its pretty rare that it doesn't happen, in fact when the Sox traded for Vazquez, the DBacks weren't going to send their Yankee money the White Sox way, but they finally did.
  21. Showtime is doing a series on the Marlins. It debuts in a couple weeks. They just showed some previews. Its odd that the Guillen family is upset with the city of Chicago apparently paying too much attention to Ozzie. His quote on the show when asked what he would do if the Marlins won the World Series was "I'd take the trophy to Chicago, Michigan Avenue, bucknaked." That's class. It also shows Ozzie is always starved for attention, so I don't see how he can be upset many in Chicago are still so interested in him.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 06:46 PM) I got nothing against Robin. I liked him as a player and he's doing a fine job. The team remains inconsistent but there still is the chance the team could become an elite one this season. Honestly I don't care what Miami does. I really would prefer not playing Miami in the WS though. Ozzie might find a way to beat us. I'd rather play Washington. Ozzie's not finding ways to beat anybody at the moment. I don't think the cellar dwellar Marlins are much of a WS threat. Greg, how do you explain the White Sox being in first and the Marlins being in last, considering your comments when Ozzie left? Even Oney doesn't say much anymore other than to once in a while mention people in Chicago shouldn't be so interested in Ozzie.
  23. I'm going with the Steve Stone recommendation, Veal.
