QUOTE (DirtySox @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 05:14 PM) Chuck Garfien Ozzie Guillen says he'll want a contract extension from White Sox this off-season. He's signed through 2012. 1 minute ago Favorite Retweet Reply Chuck Garfien Guillen: "One thing I make clear, I don't think I'll be back here for 1 year contract, and not know about the next year." 56 seconds ago Favorite Retweet Reply Ozzie is a genius. He's taking all the attention away from his team that won 4 in a row so everyone can talk about his status. He cried last year about his option being picked up, now he's crying about an extension. Bu-bye Ozzie. Please take Oney with you.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:24 AM) If they were on the last years of their contracts, I might agree with you. These guys are going to be around for a while, how do you justify not playing them the rest of this year and opening 2012 with them as starters? Easy. Didn't Ozzie tell you he had balls? All he has to do is show Dunn the stat sheet where it says Dunn .163 and show Rios the same sheet. It will say Rios .212 and also note Alex doesn't seem very interested in playing , and when he played them everyday, he still was hitting them 4th or 5th. You'll never admit it, but Ozzie has had a bad year with the line up card.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 05:37 PM) You mean Holly.wood? WTF dude since when did this forum turn Holly.wood into Kenny "The Genius" Williams? lol Yeah, I saw what posted and thought to myself that's not what I typed.

It would be awesome if "Kenny "The Genius" Williams" read this site and went to the churros stand.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 08:33 PM) I think the major plus of that experience is to learn to manage the egos involved and to deal with the media, not because the game is any different at the major league level than in the minor leagues. How many bench coaches and 3rd base coaches deal with the media? Sandberg has dealt with the media more than probably most. Again, I don't know if he would be any good, but to say since he doesn't have major league experience as a coach he shouldn't even be considered as a manager which is what Joe is saying, is beyond ridiculous. -

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 07:42 PM) Means nothing. Bench or even third base coach is by far better preperation to manage in the majors than managing in the minors is. Its managing baseball, not splitting an atom. For the love of God, Sandberg knows his way around a major league clubhouse. I don't know how getting signs from a dugout to give to a hitter or runner is going to make him more prepared. Of course, that did work for Terry Bevington and Mike Quade. Oh wait....... I'm not saying I would hire the guy, but he did what a lot of guys wouldn't, he went back to riding buses. He may not get a job, but he's earned interviews. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) Eat s*** Ozzie! f***ing moron Its on KW for not forcing him on Ozzie. Ozzie did say if he was called up he would play every day. Calling up Dallas McPherson earlier was a total joke. -

I'm glad they didn't call him up earlier. He is 2 ABs in and has 1 less hit vs. LHP than Dunn has all year. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 02:56 PM) Has the media asked Ozzie's take on Rios batting fourth in some games? I agree it's a big FU as he wraps up his final season on the South Side. If we finish .500, BTW, Ozzie's departure is going to be controversial. Sox aren't going to look good nationally on this one. To go .500 with Dunn and Rios having years like that and Beckham sucking? Some media will say he should be manager of the year. Those are 3 automatic outs. Also there should be a lot of national jokes on saying goodbye to a manager who led Chicago to the rarest of things - a baseball championship. I won't cry the day he leaves but it should be crazy fun. Maybe they could have been in the race had Ozzie not continued putting these automatic outs in promenent spots in the order. -
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) If you are a baseball fan and can afford to buy tickets, it's stupid not to. What if you lived 200 miles from the park and worked nights and weekends?

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 12:47 PM) It's very important for '12 and onward to get Dunn hitting. He needs to be playing every day and hitting in front of Konerko to see if he can get pitches he can handle. Do you really think they are pitching him tougher the lower he bats in the line up? He did hit in front of Konerko, go check those splits. He has been horrible everywhere they have put him. He's been horrible when they play him every day. He's been horrible when they give him time off. He's horrible against LHP he's horrible against RHP. Did you know that when Adam Dunn falls behind in the count 0-1, his batting average is .101? Anyone who really thinks Dunn will walk away from his paydays if he doesn't turn it around, I hope you're right, but I really think his agent and family will have a say. The bottom line is if it continues like this, the Sox, no matter how much they owe him, will not be able to keep him on the roster, and he'll be able to be "retired" while still cashing huge checks.

Which of the underperfomers will figure it out in 2012?

QUOTE (gatnom @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 05:54 PM) The bold part is pretty much what I said. You should probably read things more closely before painting me as something I'm not and attacking me for it. No, this is what you wrote: It's starting to get to that point where you can label him a bust, at least relative to his projections. -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 04:07 PM) Yeah that Paul Konerko for one I was thinking more like Ken Griffey Jr. who would have a fluke injury every year. Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah are a couple of Bulls that are hurt freakishly almost every season. I personally would keep Quentin unless someone was willing to give up a lot.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 12:28 PM) Lilli really crushed that one. We were sitting out by the Sox bullpen and had a nice viewpoint of the ball sailing well over the wall. It was especially nice for him hitting what turned out to be the game winner in Safeco since he loves playing here having grown up in the area. My daughter got Will Ohman's autograph, her first White Sox autograph. She was excited about that. My first Sox autograph was either Tommy McCraw or Ron Hansen....can't remember which one. Tonight we get Larry Bernandez Bobbleheads. Woot. My first autograph was Bucky Dent. It was at a restaurant after a game. I was really a shy little kid, but I went up to him anyway and they guy couldn't have been any nicer. I'll never forget it. -

The Sox will probably make a nice little run in Sept. Finish a few games over .500, wind up in 2nd place, and 5 years from now KW and Ozzie backers will bring up 2011 as a successful season. -
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 05:33 PM) One of my concerns with Dunn is how opposing teams - namely pitchers - view him. Who is going to be afraid of Adam Dunn now? Pitchers will come right after him and try to strike him out, which will decrease his walk rate. No one will be afraid of challenge him and I'm not that sure the guy will make them pay for challenging him. Remember how we were all salivating about the "big lefty bat" in the middle of the line up? I would kill to see Dunn traded back to the NL. I know that probably won't happen and I'll still root for him as long as he is in a White Sox uniform, but still... At least they got him away from Paulie in the Sox line up. What amazed me was how long it took for opposing teams to stop letting Paulie hurt them with an automatic out and most likely a strikeout right behind him. 8th place hitters in the NL get walked all the time to face a pitcher. Why wasn't Paulie getting walked to get to someone who is hitting like a pitcher?

QUOTE (SI1020 @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 02:50 PM) I hear you but I have little confidence in the current coaching staff to help him adjust. In fact, his swing has gotten progressively worse from Georgia to his rookie year to now. You could pin it on a coach or coaches, but ultimately Beckham knows what the problem is, and if he doesn't pan out, its on him. He's the one that has to adjust. Whether he can or not is the question. Knowing what you need to do and doing it hitting-wise are 2 very different things. You don't have time to think about a lot of things when the ball is coming. Everything has to be built in. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) could of happened to anybody, always happens to quentin. That is true. They may be fluke injuries, but there are a few guys that seem to get them on a regular basis.

QUOTE (SI1020 @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 12:58 PM) Why is recognizing the reality that Beckham is very close to being a bust mean you are an "I told you so" kind of person? Someone or something has ruined Beckham's swing and I fear he's going down the same path that Borchard, Anderson and Fields did. As for the other two I expect no comeback from either of them. At least not in a White Sox uniform. Because he's 24 years old. He was drafted in 2008. That's not yet a bust. You could call the entire 2011 White Sox draft a bust right now and be correct on most. Its silly. For all the people that want the Sox to dump all their good players and pick up prospects and spend more on the draft and sign more Latin players, they sure do not have any patience. If you are a bust 3 years after you are drafted, rebuilding will be miserable for anyone with that view. I read an article that it takes Dominican players about 8 years on average after they are signed to make it to the major leagues. That means they would be a bust for half a decade. Beckham's swing is long. We know what he can do if he can shorten it. Its up to him. He's definitely trying. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 12:06 PM) Just remember, you were the one crying for Crede long after his back pretty much shelved him, you obviously dont know when it is time to receive value back for a player that is about to be risky and expensive. So other teams will be willing to give up top shelf talent so they can pay Quentin big money to wind up on the DL? For what the Sox could probably get for Quentin, if they can afford to pay him, they should keep him. If anyone hasn't noticed, the Sox have a difficult time picking up good hitters. When they have one, discarding them is foolish.

QUOTE (gatnom @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 10:56 AM) Yes, it is. Only if you want to be an "I told you so" type of person, and brag to everyone you knew he would be a bust. Of course if he isn't you could always fall back on the I'm glad I was wrong, Go Sox line. He's obviously been a dissapointment, but he's still real young and we know he has it in him to be a really productive player. Whether it will come out is the question. I personally think it will, but the longer he goes without being really good for decent stretches, the longer the odds become. -
Look at Adam Dunn the previous 5 years or so. He's no heavier now than he was then. No one was calling him fat on opening day. Maybe the problem is his conditioning and that he hasn't addressed it most of his career and it finally caught up to him. We can only hope its that or something else that is correctable during the offseason or you're looking at a guy the Sox may have to release to get better. There is no reason to keep someone that is performing like Dunn on a roster unless there is some hope he will get better. There's no way the Sox will go through this entire contract allowing him to take a roster spot if he doesn't improve.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 08:55 PM) I'd fire him for that. Openly making fun of a player because you think the press has been mean? Totally unacceptable. What happened to all that crap about the rules of the locker room and supporting your own players? Who Ozzie, the guy that ran Jim Thome off last year then just said he'd love to have Thome back when he knew the Sox hadn't claimed him, and said it would be up to KW?
