  1. QUOTE (C_LEE45 @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 07:01 PM) does it matter? Not at this point as far as the playoffs go, but I'm a White Sox fan, and through the years, I found White Sox victories far more enjoyable than White Sox losses.
  2. QUOTE (C_LEE45 @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 07:00 PM) HEY AJ GO BACK TO THE DL!!!!!!!this team is a joke Now its AJ's fault? Wow. Pitchers aren't held accountable on Soxtalk unless your name is Jake Peavy. I suppose that's fair. Its not their fault if they are good. Its all Don Cooper. So if they suck, its because of AJ and if they are good its because Don Cooper is the pitching coach.
  3. I hope we don't get swept. At least we don't have to listen to a guy who once walked over 2 guys an inning one season talk about where pitchers have to place the ball.
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 06:54 PM) Pierre's shirty arm comes into play on that last one. Yeah, but he just would have stopped at second had a typical 10 year old been throwing it in.
  5. QUOTE (Slats Grobnik @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 04:55 PM) I'll give Ozzie credit for this - he's no quitter. Maybe he wants to get out of here before KW's kids make it to the bigs. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=5163638 Updated: May 4, 2010, 10:57 PM ETGuillen manages 1,000 gameEmailPrintCommentsESPNChicago.com CHICAGO -- Just before he managed his 1,000th game with the Chicago White Sox, Ozzie Guillen said on Tuesday he will have to be fired when the day comes for him to move on because he will never quit. ESPNChicago.com White Sox blog The latest news and notes on the White Sox. Blog "Fired," Guillen said when asked if he thought he would quit or be fired someday. "Because I'm not going to quit. I'm not a quitter. When I want to quit I'll make sure I do a lot of stupid things to make them fire me and get paid. "I think getting fired is better because when you quit a lot of teams out there will call you a quitter. It shows you can't handle yourself or handle the heat." Guillen is 523-477 in seven seasons as the White Sox manager and has led the team to the playoffs twice, including a World Series victory in 2005. He is the fourth manager in franchise history to manage 1,000-plus games. Guillen, whose White Sox lost 7-2 to the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday, believes the key to his longevity is his 13-year playing career with the White Sox, and his familiarity with the city. "I grew up here," Guillen said. "When I was hired, 95 percent of the people probably thought I'd get fired after a year or two. I think it helps that I grew up in Chicago [during his playing career]. Looking at [Chicago Cubs manager] Lou [Piniella] and Dusty [baker], those guys didn't grow up here. I had an advantage, I know everybody. I know all the people. "Some people love you, some people don't. I don't really care. Every day I tell the fans what they want to hear. The information is out there. I think that's refreshing for the fans. There's no hiding anything." ESPNChicago.com baseball reporter Bruce Levine contributed to this report. He's no quitter but can't work with only one year left on his contract. Ozzie only speaks the truth.
  6. QUOTE (ottawa_sox @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 05:30 PM) You're welcome. Just for the hell of it, I looked up the box score (the game was on August 10, 1990, not August 11) to see if the next hitter avoided getting drilled. He did. It was Lance Johnson ........ no doubt with happy feet. He grounded out 3rd to 1st. Grebeck either got drilled or knocked on his ass his next AB. I can't remember.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) Least expected back-to-back homers in the history of the game No. Grebeck and Ozzie going back to back off Nolan Ryan in 1990 takes the cake. I will never forget it.
  8. Put in on the board....................................yes.
  9. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 04:32 PM) What did Pierre do? He was outside the box on the way to first and was hit by the ball, killing the DP. If he did it on purpose, it was extremely smart.
  10. Ever since Dunn was moved down in the line up and then out, the Sox have been scoring at a pretty decent clip.
  11. QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) Brent Moral is up. According to Cowley, KW has bad Morals.
  12. QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 04:23 PM) "I'm serious" he said. lololol. Mitch then said he could go out there today and get a bunt down. Something to note, Mitch never was credited for a sacrifice during his career.
  13. Now Mitch says it was 177 degrees on the mound once when he pitched, and he's serious.
  14. QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) He just said that he also got hit in the head with a line drive. I'm guessing it was this morning. Mitch Williams just goes to show you if you ever put on a major league uniform, someone will hire you to broadcast something.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 04:05 PM) But that's not really a concern of yours. I'm sure we're not the only team in the league that's had a stretch of games in with their SPs allowed runs in the first inning. You're trying to bring Cooper down a notch or two to justify your undying support of Greg Walker. By your logic, Greg Walker, or any hitting coach in baseball, should have to quit first before being fired. That's just not feasible. No, I just would like them to be held to the exact same standard. There's always an excuse for Cooper if a pitcher sucks. I haven't seen one post blaming him for Peavy not living up to his billing. If a guy can't hit, its clearly because Walker is the Sox hitting coach.
  16. I love hearing Mitch Williams speak about pitching. It seems he's forgotten he couldn't throw a strike to save his life a good part of his career. 544 walks in 691 innings, and he's talking about where he would pitch a guy and walking guys on purpose. LMAO.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 03:36 PM) Yes, because giving up an RBI double to Miguel Cabrera in the first inning is so uncommon. I get what you're trying to do here. While I don't agree with you at all, I can respect your consistency. But does Albert Pujols have to come here and suck for you to recognize that Greg Walker might not be the right guy for the job anymore? I've never seen a fan in my life so obsessed with protecting his team's hitting coach. Why are they getting tagged in the first inning then settling down? They aren't ready to pitch. If the Sox never scored their first time through the line up, you would blame Walker. He's always been the problem according to some. Who are you going to blame next year?
  18. 3 games in a row the Sox give up runs in the 1st inning. Why doesn't Cooper have his pitchers ready to pitch?
  19. Rios made a nice play. Maybe he feels like playing today. Hopefully he won't wait until September to feel like playing next year.
  20. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) How has KW behaved like a little kid here? Sure you can criticize him for making a mistake in picking up Dunn, Rios and Peavy. But he gave Ozzie the go ahead to play whomever he thinks can produce the best, contracts and salary be damned. The last time I remember KW saying anything publicly about Ozzie or his coaches was a month or two ago when he said he thought they were doing a good job. Even I got pissed off at KW that time. But KW has been silent in all this latest BS with Ozzie's contract and Cowley's personal attacks. If anyone has been acting like an adult in this latest round of BS, it's KW. And if anyone is to blame for this dysfunctional organization, it all starts with JR and will never change as long as he owns the team. Passive agressiveness. Said he wasn't going to bring up Viciedo because Ozzie wouldn't play him. Making comments about Beckham's swing was out of line. You discuss that stuff in house. It looked to me like KW was laying the groundwork for scapegoats for his failures. You can't doubt KW, while publicly remaining relatively silent, behind the sceen is a total ass. I'll agree, he's handled this Cowley stuff well, but for good reason. He knows his ass is on the line.
