  1. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 08:57 PM) Four games back. It is amazing that as bad as this team has been, they are right there. If they actually had been playing well, this division would be a cakewalk.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 07:44 PM) Aside from AJ/Flowers, isn't pulling Rios and Dunn pretty much the normal "B team" lineup? Winning the 3rd game of a 3 game series where they have won the first 2 seems as difficult for the White Sox the past couple of years as trying to beat Minnesota, but I agree with you, pull Rios and Dunn. How much more of this does anyone have to see?
  3. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 07:11 PM) Indeed it is on KW ultimately. However, we certainly couldn't do anything worse with a new batting coach could we? As they don't matter anyways as most of the Greg Walker defenders use as their argument to keep him around for life? Maybe just a change would prove to get something register with Rios and Dunn. They both have the talent. We won't make it to the post season without both of them producing. I love how the Walker defenders talk about how much work he is putting in with these guys. As an owner of my own company for 12 years, I can tell you some of the best employees I got work only 4-6 hours a day. But they get it done and deliver their numbers, which is all that matters. Simultaneously I have people working 12-14 hrs a day producing less than desirable results and after a while, are on their way out. Think about it- the fact that he is spending 15 hrs a day with these guys producing garbage results is almost more embarrassing when you think about it... If you look at the Sox pitching and hitting league rankings since Walker took over, the offense has ranked higher than the pitching 4 times and the pitching has ranked higher than the offense 4 times. I'd bet anything the White Sox spend more money per pitcher than per position player. Walker is fine. Your comparison to your company is hilarious, I guess you don't want Walker or any hitting coach working with players. If you look at the hitting results, it appears they need the extra work. Walker is willing to put that work in. Sign Albert Pujols and players like that and you could have me be the hitting coach, but the Sox can't do that.
  4. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 05:12 PM) "His foot was coming off the bag there" Which implies that his foot was still on the bag. f***ing moron. Nice job by Ejax. Looks great out there. I think the umpires' contract might say Fox can't say they are ever wrong. They don't show pitch trax anymore and although the umpire clearly blew the call and Fox showed evidence of that, neither guy said it was wrong, only that it was close.
  5. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) MLB Extra Innings doesn't have access to Fox games. Sorry, no dice. I understand that, but tomorrow's game should be available as well as the games Mon, Tue and Wed.
  6. The Sox are looking for RH relievers, they made a run at Kerry Wood last winter. He's signed very cheaply, wants to stay in Chicago and may approve the move across town for a couple of months.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) Bought my tickets and parking pass for home opener. Hammer this out b****es. The NBA I can see, but the NFL................they can't lose any dates over money. It would cost way too much. There is no doubt in my mind you will be using your tickets and parking pass on time.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 11:53 AM) I like how Frolik said that Florida isnt a hockey town and thats why he likes it here. I don't think anyone would ever think Florida is a hockey town, or basketball town or baseball town or football town or even a town.
  9. MLB Extra Innings is comp for a week I believe. I've got DirecTV and it starts on channel 720
  10. He's only going to get better. The lack of patience many here have with young players is pretty funny considering many of the same people want the Sox to totally rebuild. Either the people are masochistic, or just love being miserable. Young guys usually struggle. Beckham will be a really good player some day.
  11. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 07:04 AM) I pray that he doesn't listen to Walker the rest of the way and just rolls with it like he did in 2009 with that natural instinctive swing. If he does it would not surprise me to see him get to .280 or so. I still want to see more bullets hit off his bat as I swear he hit more balls hard in his last 75 games in 2009 than he has in 214 games he's played in since That's how you can tell if anyone is listening to Walker. If they are hitting, they obviously are not. If they are in a slump, they hang on to his every word and do exactly as he says. If people that aren't around the team can figure that out so easily how is it the people associated with the team cannot? I just can't figure it out. Greg Walker obviously knows less about hitting than a typical 8 year old.
  12. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 07:58 PM) http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/...ting-violations Shocking, just shocking. Tressel is a phony and a scumbag.
  13. The bust with a big game.
  14. My dad told me this afternoon the Sox would win today 5-2. I hope they win, but I don't want to hear about it for weeks. Someone has to score again.
  15. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 07:53 PM) palm springs is. So is Orlando. If you measure the greatest golf city as the number of quality golf courses in the area, Chicago, if not number one, is high on the list.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 07:26 PM) Which would be the sad part. Sacrificing Konerko (sure JR and the fans will love that one) because of players like Dunn, Teahen and Rios that nobody wants to see play. That would be adding insult to injury to the already cynical fanbase, along with trading Danks, Quentin and Buehrle. Well, KW was in this same "dark place" in 2007, dug down deep and decided to keep Buehrle and Dye around. It's not his modus operandi...which has actually been one of his strengths, but a weakness simultaneously. But it certainly worked out in 2008. It would be, but he's a pretty nice alternative for the teams thinking about jumping in on the Fielder/Pujols sweepstakes. Short term, reasonably priced, good guy, having a huge last season and a half, the Sox could maximize a return if they aren't going to be contending and actually do Paulie a favor and steer him to a team with a chance. I don't think this is the path that they will take, but if they do, dumping Paulie is the obvious move.
  17. I really doubt the Sox will ever go into a full rebuild in the few months, but if they did, the first guy you trade is Paul Konerko.
  18. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) Here's the article. Which, by the way, quotes KW of being tired of talking about "stats and slumps." Here's exactly what he said about Ozzie: Williams said he likes the way Guillen has called his team out or defended it, depending on the situation. ‘‘The tone is set by the manager and coaches,’’ he said. ‘‘They certainly have an effect on the players. These are professional sports. There are times when players need a kick in the butt, there are times when they need to restore a sense of calm and confidence and there are times when you have to do a little bit of both. And I think what Ozzie did was, he did a little of both. It was needed at the time, and it was very timely.’’ I agree with KW. Its worked out perfectly.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 08:37 PM) I thought you were talking about Howard Marshall, Anna Nicole Smith's ex-husband. That's bad. Funny, but bad.
  20. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 07:52 PM) You make it sound like he was Eddie Brinkman. He was a light hitter and free swinger but the worst he hit as a regular was .265. That would hardly rank him as a terrible hitter, "one of the worst hitters ever". He had no power and didn't walk at all. He wasn't much with the stick, but he did seem to come through in big situations.
  21. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 03:54 PM) Quite possibly, but a lot of that might be contingent on whether or not he has control of the clubhouse. I don't know the more "inside" stuff with that team. I'm sure their expectations are higher than ours after winning so many divisions and always having the same results. It's time for them to take the next step and if they don't, I couldn't fault them for going in another direction. The Twins haven't fired a manager in 25 years. They won't fire Gardenhire. He'll have to quit. The organization loves him more than Hawk does.
  22. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 01:30 PM) If these things are true, I don't know why Kenny Williams sticks around. He has no power to fire his manager, and he can't even fire a coach? Why bother? His ego is the only reasonable answer, but that could work both ways. If JR would let KW fire a coach, I wonder if he would fire Cora thinking it might prompt Ozzie to quit.
  23. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 07:48 PM) good question. does anything fire up these guys? Just by watching how they play and nothing else, free weed might do the job.
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 01:35 PM) Well, they are losing mine for next year thats for sure. I already sent a letter. This is actually a pretty smart idea. If every season ticketholder sent a letter, the "there's nothing to see here, move on" attitude towards change the Sox have shown this year would be a little different. The sense I get and maybe because its true with me as well, season ticketholders are more incensed with the Sox non action this year than being brutal in 2007 or even getting rid of Jack McDowell in 1995 and trying to sell everyone on Sabo and Kruk or even the White Flag Trade. Maybe its the economy and dollars are more precious now, but spending money watching some players who play like they don't care for an organization that doesn't at least appear to care makes me and I suppose RockRaines and others think maybe its better I spend my money elsewhere. The organization did put themselves on the spot and they have some guys performing miserably they couldn't give away, but that doesn't mean you have to bat Adam Dunn 3rd or 4th every game. You don't have to make out a line up with Dunn batting 4th and Rios 5th. The numbers Konerko have put up are unreal if you think about it. Theoretically, he should probably get less pitches to hit than anyone in baseball.
