  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 09:08 AM) I know it will probably piss of people, but it makes sense. The kid has been around baseball since the day he was born. I imagine there is a decent chance that some of that exposure has rubbed off and given him a chance to recognize talent. I hope he goes to a different scout school than whoever signed him.
  2. He retired. There was a message on the scoreboard at tonight's game congratulating him for "going out on top" what with his .333 avg. and .667 Slg. in Charlotte. The message was from JR, the Sox coaches and Freddy Garcia.
  3. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 11:11 AM) FROM THE TRIBUNE The forecast is for more rain, meaning the entire three-game series against the Tigers might be played after the regular season ends Sept. 28. They have no common days off between now and then. If the division race is still undecided then, the games will have to be made up, which would happen before a possible playoff game with the Twins if there is an AL Central tie. "Just be up by four games at the end of the season, and then you don't have to play those games," Guillen said. "It's not something the players should be concerned or worried about because they have to take it one game at a time, and hopefully it'll work out for the best." Somebodies math is wrong and it was never my strong point Its going to be a straight DH beginning at 4. The field looks fine. The radar also indicates the rain should be ending soon.
  4. QUOTE (BobDylan @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 04:50 AM) I don't know. I don't really care either. Sometimes I like to mute the games and I find it more enjoyable. Very few announcers add anything to the game. Hawk used to be one of them just on his antics alone, but his flavor has run out. At this point, I wouldn't mind if they ran an audio loop of "Pulp Fiction" during games. I don't need an announcer to tell me what's going on, let alone care if they get fired or not. After all, the most enjoyable experience is at the ball park where you can't hear the announcers. Now, if only I could mute the announcers but keep the sound effects... Several years ago, I believe it was NBC, actually broadcast an NFL game without announcers. It didn't go so well, but that also was at a time when they didn't have all the information they now show on the screen. It might be better received now. I love Hawk, but he does drive me crazy. I cringe when a borderline pitch goes against a White Sox pitcher, because everyone knows whats coming next. I love Hawk's homerism, and love that the emotion when the Sox do well is genuine. Maybe Stone's perspective as a pitcher, and status as a broadcaster will temper Hawk's tendency to rip on umpires every chance he gets.(He often overlooks the bad calls that go the White Sox way) It could be a match made in heaven. As far as DJ goes, he's a guy who has been in the booth for 9 years now. From where was at the beginning, its obvious he's worked very hard to get better, and its paid off. He's genuinely a nice person. You might not care if he is out of a job, but I don't find it silly that a lot of people have sympathy especially considering it isn't because of his performance he's been dropped, its because a bigger name was available.
  5. I really grew to enjoy DJ after initially wondering how they could possibly give him the job. Stone is a bigger name and its all about the benjamins. I hope DJ takes the radio gig, and if not I wish him well. I've taken the stairs down with him after the game a few times and he seems to be a very nice guy.
  6. I wonder if Paulie slipping on wet grass and injuring himself had any effect on the umpires' or league's decision not to play tonight.
  7. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 06:14 PM) Ozzie-Leyland-Williams look pissed. I'd be pissed too. They were told they would start the game on time even with the light rain. They are really messing with the pitchers as they have warmed up.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 01:18 PM) He's only started 2 or 3 games in his career. I think that's a lot more relevant, for good and bad reasons. OK. He's never started a major league game against a team not named the KC Royals.
  9. Broadway has never started a major league game against a team not in last place.
  10. When is Hawk going to talk about momentum for tomorrow's game?
  11. This is unbelievable.
  12. You look at his numbers and you wouldn't see anything that would indicate this, but Jenks seems to make things interesting more often than not lately.
  13. The Padres claimed Charlie Haeger. I bet he has a better career than Broadway or Richard.
  14. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 07:47 PM) Swisher was toast once he hit 0-2. Swisher is toast if he's ever 0-1. He's hitting .159 with a .433 OPS on at bats where he was down 0-1 this year.
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) Props to Uribe on his performance today. Its a good thing KW didn't take your advice and get rid of him for nothing.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 09:15 PM) Why would anyone feel stupid when a player was as bad as he was. Anyone who said he was terrible was 100 percent correct, he was terrible. Thank god its only taken him 2 seasons to snap out of it. You said he was washed up. Now you want him batting 4th. You're Karl Rove and Bill O'Reilly all mashed into one.
  17. All that really matters is Linebrink needs to be good again and in a hurry, Danks must get back to where he was, Buerhle needs to step it up, Vazquez has to stay where he's been the past few starts, Floyd must continue to battle and they better get something out of Richard. With Griffey in CF, their jobs become a little more difficult.
  18. Giangrecco said Crede has left the team.
  19. As crazy as this sounds, if Linebrink can regain his earlier form, I think the Sox are better without Quentin than they were without Linebrink. Of course its not as strong as they would be with both. Griffey is going to have to earn his paycheck.
  20. I blame Herm Schneider.
  21. QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) so any chance he plays in the playoffs if we get there? can I know griffey played right in cincy, but can he play left for us? Believe me, Swisher will be in LF and Griffey in CF.
  22. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 01:08 PM) Bruce Levine confirms Quentin is out for the season. So he's in tonight's line-up? Seriously, Quentin getting drilled as much as he does really elevates the possibility of this type of thing happening. Its the one thing you have to be concerned about with him, and its been in earlier threads. He needs as much armour as possible from here on out, unless he's going to change his approach.
  23. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 06:53 PM) Griffey... His back must be bad.
  24. I wonder how pissed off at the umpires Hawk would be if one of the Indians missed getting hit by a pitch by as far as Ramirez did and they let him take a base.
  25. That's just sad. This is a huge game and Ozzie has a AAA player batting during a possible game changing moment. If Owens deserved to hit there, then they should have called him up a long time ago. At least during a time when he was eligible for the postseason.
