Nick Swisher fans have to admire that base on balls by Paulie.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 08:48 PM) Is Manny going to make the Marlins pick up his option? His terms were that any team trading for him would agree not to pick them up.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 08:44 PM) Manny is a Marlin if wavies his NTC. He's claimed he would. I wonder if he really thought Theo would trade him. It would be hysterical if he doesn't waive it.

Rangers interested in Masset?
QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 08:37 PM) I did. Broadway threw well in his limited time in 07 in that role. My larger point is that the sox would probably get better production from a guy from the minors, ala Broadway, Richard, Haeger than from Masset. Carrasco was tried and has gotten some outs. The same should be tried if Masset is let go. So you are going to throw out this season's results and call him up based on 1 start last September against KC? Massett has pitched some nice games this season and he pitched a nice one against the Cubs in 2007. Broadway is not an option.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 08:40 PM) Isn't it something like 2 wins in the playoffs in the last 25 years or so for pitchers that were traded at the deadline. Some could argue Geoff Blum was one of the most influential deadline deals in the last decade due to his playoff production. OC worked out for Boston.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 07:37 PM) It's extremely difficult to measure, but how often do major deadline deals pay off? I can't be more than 40% There was an article about it a month or so ago. It was even less than that.

QUOTE (shawnhillegas @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 07:35 PM) When you've got amazing trading chips like Lance Broadway, Ehren Wasserman, and Kyle McCullough, it's all the more enraging. Exactly. There's not one minor leaguer KW should be afraid to trade to get some player(s) who can help down the stretch. The problem is, his gun is full of blanks.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 08:28 PM) what ever became of Dallas McPherson? According to baseballcube he's hitting .298 with 38 homers in 342 ab in Albequerque, the Marlins AAA affiliate.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) the Twins are after Brian Roberts according to their network announcers. Castilla tore a ligament in his hand. Anyone still on the "its not important to have a good minor league system bus?"

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 08:17 PM) He has a long way to go to achieve pimple on penis status. If he doesn't get there, it won't be from lack of effort. I would say the second biggest idiot writing anything about sports in Chicago newspapers. Admittedly, there's a huge mountain to climb to get to #1, as Marriotti is the Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali all combined of strokes.

Its OK. If he gets out of this only allowing 1 run, I consider it a victory.

I'm pretty sure Fields wouldn't have been hitting and running with guys on 1st and 2nd. Maybe a bunt.

Hawk mentioned Cabrera's non-chalant throw at least 3 times. I just hope the team takes the high road if they deal him and there were problems, because since the call to the pressbox story leaked they have insunated its been peaches and cream with him.

Rangers interested in Masset?
What's laughable is that some actually mention Lance Broadway as a Massett replacement. The guy has a 6.51 ERA his last 10 starts. I don't know what throwing him into the mix accomplishes unless you are masochistic.

Brian Anderson
QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) Swish is pretty decent at scooping...plus I think has better range...AND can make the throw to second. As for infield/outfield enthusiasm...have you ever played on the infield or pitched. I have...and once on a team that pretty much had the same deadpan demeanor as Paulie...and it was terrible. Not knocking Paulie for it or anything...but it makes a difference IMO...especially with a young guy next to you like Lexi. Cal Ripken had a pretty deadpan demeanor. So did Harold Baines. Ramirez isn't affected by Konerko at all, in fact, if anything, Alexei needs to cut down on the flash a little bit IMO.

Konerko to "get some rest for awhile"
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) Any real surprise? Remember the whole lineup change rant in Tampa? Give him to the end of the roadtrip. The quote the Score had was from before the game yesterday. Paulie had a couple of decent ABs, so its not like Ozzie changed his mind this time.
-
Something's brewing...
The most interesting thing is Cabrera being very available. Considering KW is going for it, it would seem if he was the leader and player we are lead to believe, he would be untouchable even if Ramirez can play SS. I think there's a lot more bad that we haven't heard about him.

Konerko to "get some rest for awhile"
QUOTE (earthshiner @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) I don't see why some people think this team is dead without Paulie. He's been crap all year and we are in first. We played awesome while he was on the DL. Back in '05 did anyone think the team would be a winner let alone wire to wire missing Frank pretty much the whole year? The reason why they were winning wasn't because Paulie wasn't playing. It was the pitching. Most find it rather obvious that the pitching had to come down to earth at least a little bit. Now they need to score runs. They need Paulie to snap out of it. Its unlikely Wise will keep up the pace he's on, and offensively if Paulie is on his game,he's one of the better hitters on the team.
-
Something's brewing...
The lack of prospects is a thorn in KW's butt right now. Whoever thinks its not important to have a decent farm system, or at least have several guys who are projectable with some upside, they are worth players when you need them, even if they never pan out.

Konerko to "get some rest for awhile"
I still think this quote was the pre-game quote Ozzie had when he said Konerko would be given several days off if he determines it necessary he get taken out of the line-up. He mentioned he would clear his mind and take a lot of extra BP. I wouldn't be surprised if Paulie is in the line-up tonight, much to the dismay of most of the posters of this site.
