White Sox vs. Twins
Swisher is hitting .170 with a .230 obp and a.225 slugging pct. after being behind 0 and 1. He has only put the first pitch into play 13 times this year. Pitchers should be shot not throwing him a strike on the first pitch.

White Sox vs. Twins
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 07:40 PM) From the one angle CSN showed it almost appeared as if Dye whiffed on the ball. I'd have to see it again. He's a terrible fielder whether or not he had a chance on this play. Can't move worth a s***. Roberto Clemente in his prime wouldn't have caught that ball.

White Sox vs. Twins
The good news is Contreras looked sharp in a bullpen session yesterday. Rookies in big games is asking for trouble. Richard looked pretty good for a while.

White Sox vs. Twins
QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 06:07 PM) At least Hawk pauses before his rants. Blyleven is one continuous sentence the entire inning. Dude....SHUT. UP. for a minute or two. That's why I don't like listening to Scully...he never takes a friggin breath. Its like Rick Sutcliffe and Ditka, they always cut off the last word halfway through it in every sentence to start the next one. Calm down.

White Sox vs. Twins
QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 06:02 PM) Good God...I've got to listen to Blyleven again tonight. @#$%& I don't know, listen to Hawk rail against the umpires is really getting old, even though I love the Hawkeroo. The over/under on Hawk's first "one of those was not a strike", is the top of the second.

QUOTE (Maxwell @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) He isn't basically Juan Uribe. If he was, you'd love him for buying you dinner. Right. Good one.

QUOTE (TCQ @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 01:42 PM) Isnt it ironic that this thread was started to ask about swisher love, and i again see this unfounded uribe at third love. Yes he has the arm for it but he has two errors in only 4 games, plus a bonehead play he made the other day iirc. Everyone thinks he can play third but prior to this year where his d has been less than stellar he hadnt played there since he played 19 games there in 04. Wheres all this uribe love coming from? (Sorry to kinda go off topic didnt want to start a whole new thread on this and its partially relevent) Uribe+love+soxtalk.com=Not never

One amazing number I saw was Swisher is hitting .170 with a .230 OBP on any AB were he falls behind 0-1. That's over 180 AB so it can't be blamed on sample size.

Let's just hope for all our sakes they both put their slumps behind them soon.

Prosecutor's seek to revoke Jamar Smith's probation
I'm sure no drinking was a term of his probation whether he became of legal age or not. If its true he violated the terms, it shows what a true moron the guy is. He got a huge break, being able to continue his free education and play basketball. It will be interesting to see if the AD and Weber have grown the stones to tell him so long if he's not behind bars during the basketball season.

Nick Swisher
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 11:34 AM) And every single one of those players has been thoroughly bashed on SoxTalk. We are an equal opportunity bash board. Yet Swisher goes 0 for Detroit and 0 for the roadtrip so far and there's a million excuses. He's playing out of position, proven to be false, he walks, then have him lead off. His strike outs are ignored, especially in big situations. He was great in June, but Uribe was great last September. Swisher isn't even hitting .200 the rest of the months combined, yet he's got to play firstbase. I say bunk. No other player could have the exact same season Swisher is having and get the slack he gets.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) Just curious, but, who says his s*** doesn't stink? The only real positives people have been saying for him are his ability to get on base, his defense at 1B, and the attitude he brings to the clubhouse. I think those are all true positives for him. I think everyone is disappointed in his hitting. Look at everyone defending his play. Does he get the same treatment on this board as Paulie, Thome, Crede, Uribe, Contreras, Dotel?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) It only seems that way to you because you insist on bringing Swisher up to bash him when someone is bashing Konerko or Uribe for their extended periods of sub .200 batting averages and refuse to ever give it a rest. No. I just don't understand the inconsistency. Thome was still getting on base when he was struggling. Go back and see what was written about him. Paulie gets bashed. Uribe has been written about needing to be released for years. Crede has started to get lambasted lately. Swisher has 0 hits on this roadtrip and a few strikeouts with men on base.

Nick Swisher
This wasn't meant to be a Konerko VS. Swisher thread, I just can't understand how this guy' s*** doesn't stink. At least Paulie has an injury excuse and the excuse some think he's old.

QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) Juan Uribe: .234/.284/.394 Nick Swisher: .226/.347/.395 HUGE difference. Not really. Its some walks. Swisher has 6 career steals and bats 7th. Walks with your 8th and 9th batters coming up aren't as valuable as walks with the best hitters coming up, plus he plays an offensive position. His slugging pct. is virtually identical to Uribe's last year. His average is about the same. He strikes out even more. The board wanted Uribe released. The board obviously loves walks and wants Swisher to play 1B.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) he gets on base Then how do you explain the Thome hate when his OBP was about at Swisher's level or above? He was hitting with more power, but was washed up, the worst hitter in baseball, blah, blah, blah. I'd rather see Swisher actually not strike out with runners on and maybe get a hit, than get a walk with 2 out and nobody on. The thread when the Sox got him was gushing about how he'd hit close to 40 homers, get on at about a .400 clip, hit .275. He's not close.

Nick Swisher
Nick Swisher's free pass as others continued to get slammed is beyond ridiculous. Consider this: Last year Juan Uribe hit .234 with 20 homers and 68 rbi in 513 AB as a SS with a 112 K , not considered an offensive position. This year Nick Swisher is hitting .226 and at his current pace will have 20 homers and 72 rbi with 132 ks with 513 official AB. He plays CF an offensive position and most want him to play 1B and even more offensive position. Offensively,he basically is Juan Uribe last year, a guy everyone wanted non-tendered or released, with more walks, and a few more k's and more beard styles. Defensively, at least in CF, he leaves a lot to be desired. As Steve Stone said, he is not a centerfielder. That's not his fault but offensively c'mon. If Paulie is killing the team as I read over and over, what is this guy doing? Its time he gets scrutunized a bit, especially considering this is supposedly the biggest roadtrip of the season so far, and Dirty Thirty is still looking for his first hit.

Sox most aggressive team seeking help
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 09:52 AM) Other than Carl Everett has Kenny ever made a big trade at the deadline? Contreras which didn't seem huge at the time turned out to be very big. Before KW, Schueler got Charles Johnson in 2000. He played huge those last couple of months.

Positive Paulie Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 09:23 AM) THere's nothing good to be said about Paulie. At this point, he's not a Major League Baseball player, and he's killed us since coming off the DL. Considering Swisher doesn't have a hit on this roadtrip, maybe Paulie's replacement if he needs one, should come from somewhere else.

And That's A White Sox Loser
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 07:05 AM) During the game Hawk was giving game scores and he says "Detroit was shut out by the Indians 5-0, the Tigers have been shutout 11 times this year", and I thought to myself "Hawk, the Sox are on the verge of being shutout themselves, you shouldnt be talking like that." But the Sox shouldn't have been shutout. JD hit a ball 5 feet foul and it was called a homerun. The umpires, at least according to Hawk, have no reason to overturn the call, except of course if it was hit by someone on the opposition. I love Hawk, but his umpire criticism hit a new low last night with that one. The one thing I don't understand about the umpires getting together though is if the home plate umpire clearly saw the ball was foul, if they are so concerned with getting it right, why doesn't he say something before he is asked? Its like he knows it was fould but will keep quiet unless the other manager comes out and has a stroke and they call a meeting. Doesn't sound like the umpires just want to get the call right to me.

And That's A White Sox Loser
QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 01:44 AM) And you wanna know another thing I'm sick of that doesn't help....I'm sick of Ozzie and Hawk and everybody pretty much sucking the Twins Twinkies. Every time these two open their mouth you'd think they were the reincarnation of the 36 Yankees or something. ENOUGH ALREADY. You don't think when your own team continues to hear this s*** it doesn't almost give them a defeatist attitude?!? Hell...no wonder the Sox always play like s*** against the Twins...it's because they're getting it ingrained the the TWINS ARE THE GREATEST! F@#$ THAT!!! I totally agree with this. Its one thing to respect your opponent, its another thing to slobber all over them. The Twins have a big mental edge against the White Sox everytime they play in Minnesota because of what you posted. I'm sick of hearing how great the Twins are. Hawk is a huge homer, but everytime the Sox play Minnesota, you would think the Sox were at least 15 games behind them. Ozzie does the same thing. I think it works its way down to the team.
