Manny Ramirez
Let's see, the Red Sox, a team defending their title, wants to rid themselves of this idiot and White Sox fans want him. Why? The White Sox have a LF having a better year than him. Their RF is a better team guy and having a better year. Their DH is a lot more stable than Manny. Sure he's a great hitter, but he also might decide he doesn't feel like playing for a couple of weeks. Manny being Manny is old and tired. If he thinks he'll get $100 million on the open market, boy is he going to be surprised.

Marte, Nady to the Yankees
I think he might be OK. He was awesome with the White Sox for a while. He did come in Saturday for the Yankees and fan Big Papi. Doesn't get any harder than that. He was a lot more dominating for the White Sox than not. People remember the Boston playoff game, but he was really screwed up then. If his head is on straight, and they use him mostly against lefties, I think he will be a popular member of their bullpen.

LOSS: Chicago 4-6 Detroit
Even if the Sox lost 3 out of 4 to Minnesota, they still would be in first place.

LOSS: Chicago 4-6 Detroit
For everyone who constantly rails on Konerko and Vazquez, how about Swisher and Vazquez. I know a lot of people here take no stock in pitcher's win/loss records, but you have to find it peculiar that Vazquez was 11-12 when the Sox won 90 games, 15-8 when they lost 90 games and 7-9 on a team that's been in first place most of the year. I wouldn't characterize it as a guy who has to grow a pair necessarily, maybe he's too revved up. Whatever it is, its not good, and needs to be fixed quickly.

7/27 - SOX @ DET, 12:05 CT, WGN
QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) I hate the guy. But the thing is, I don't really think Javy is all that talented. Sure, he nibbles, which is ridiculous. And his location on pitches is often bad. But the fact is that he hangs an awful lot of breaking pitches, which means that they're basically not breaking. And that's a matter of consistent execution, which IS a reflection of talent. He's had a couple outstanding seasons. I think it shows he has talent. The thing is he does best the worse his team is.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) Swisher - 4th best OBP on the team, no? Also the value of that trade is getting that much OBP for the money you pay him each year. Making that move instead of Torii allows you to spend a lot more in the next year to improve other positions. When your main offensive weapon is a walk and you have 6 career SB, its really not so impressive.

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 12:13 PM) Swisher hitting .191 this month. Throw out his huge June and he's hitting .196 on the season. Yet Paulie needs to be benched or released and this guy needs to be at first base. Ridiculous.

All the Konerko ripping yet none for Swisher who is now down to .229. April, May and July his combined average is .196.

If you have a team thats going to lose 90 games, Javy Vazquez will be a stud. A big game pitcher he is not.

Let's see Vazquez start pitching like a $13,000,000 a year pitcher.

KW to be on the Score at 10:30
QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 09:52 AM) Did he say anything of substance? He did say the organization "exhausted" themselves in the offseason to get what they have, so it would be pretty tough to do something in July. I believe he meant the minor league talent which is interesting since previously he became very defensive, almost defiant when he was questioned about the weakness of the system, almost saying that it really wasn't important. The whole thing seemed to me to be KW talking the team up, saying all the right things, apparently all the guys on the DL really didn't HAVE to go on the DL, it was just precaution, and maybe either posturing other GMs that he wasn't going to pay their price or trying to get the fanbase prepared if nothing gets done, saying the team is good enough. Its really hard to take anything away from it, because here's a guy who likes to do things on the sly. What really is he going to reveal on a radio show?

Gammons just reported that the reason the Indians were able to get as good of prospect as Santana for Blake is because the Indians are assuming most of Blake's contract. He said a few GMs think the Dodgers may be having cash flow problems.

QUOTE (Maxwell @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 07:49 PM) Who did he pitch against last time? The rangers? If so, I'm not worried. KC. He should be alright as long as he throws strikes and attacks hitters.. Last year he started nibbling and nibbling.

The White Sox originally drafted Placido Polanco. After Carrie Schueler.

Up until this season, Granderson was brutal against lefties.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 07:38 PM) Verlander also had an approach against the Sox hitters, that was made obvious by the crazy amount of popups in that game. Nobody wanted to give Verlander credit after that game. I was at that game. I think he went into the 9th throwing less than 85 pitches that night.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 07:35 PM) one things for sure - tigers don't seem to be having any trouble scoring runs either. I think Danks has given up 14 runs 13 earned his last 15 innings. Hopefully its just a rough patch and not what happened last season.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 06:33 PM) looks to me like verlander's recent run of success was aided a lot by matchups against SD, SF, and COL Last time against the White Sox 9IP 4h 1ER. They had a better approach tonight, and he probably wasn't as sharp.

Linebrink on DL, Wassermann Called Up
QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 09:33 AM) We seemed to do OK when Hermie went down in '05, I have no doubt someone will step up in Liney's place! The White Sox had Jenks to fill in. Wassermann is no Jenks. Wassermann, Carrasco and Massett late in games is starting to resemble the bullpens of 2006,2007. I'm sure KW's cell phone use is very high right now.

Which win was more enjoyable?
It was a huge win. The Sox could play like crap the next 2 games and only lose 1 in the standings for the series. I like their chances getting at least 1 more win here. Split in Minnesota, win 2 out of 3 in KC and they are on their way.

Casey Blake to the Dodgers
QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 10:09 AM) Damn, I wanted him here. No way Cleveland would trade him to the White Sox unless the Sox offered a much better package. If he helped the Sox win it all, it would help the White Sox for years down the road, hurting Cleveland. I actually think his being in LA and Cabrera still available gives it a better chance that the Sox could get him if Crede's back doesn't respond to treatment. I still would make those odds pretty slim.

Fields and Floyd for a SP?
If that's all it would take to get Halladay, KW should make that deal before Toronto could change their minds. Floyd has been good this season, much better than I thought he would ever be, but........................even though he's kept damage at a minimum recently for the most part, he hasn't really cruised in a game for a while even though he's posted some very good outings. There's still something there that makes me think the wheels could fall off any moment. Maybe its just me with Floyd, but unlike a guy like Buerhle who when you look at him on the mound, his face looks like he could be playing in a softball game at a company picnic, Floyd always looks like a guy who is testifying before Congress with something to hide. Halladay is an ace, a perrenial CY Young candidate. If those guys are available and the price isn't insane, you grab them.
