QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 06:56 PM) God this guy can look so good sometimes... But unfortunately we know what's coming. Maybe the rain will hit in the 5th. Vazquez goes 5 the Sox somehow score a run and thats a victory.

GAME THREAD: White @ Red
Good job by Vazquez not to give up runs after getting pissed off.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 06:25 PM) 3-0 Tigers already... The Tigers are a virtual lock to win the Central. They attempted to let the Sox and Twins back in, but no one seemed interested.

Jenks sent back to Chicago
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) Could be a bone, tendon, muscle, a number of things He threw 100 mph when he signed with the Angels and that was 40-50 pounds ago. He should consider getting down to 240 this offseason. His fastball will be fine, and he will put a lot less stress on all his joints.

Jenks sent back to Chicago
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 05:51 PM) Pretty damn presumptious to assume that Jenks incurred this injury because of a lack of fitness We don't even have a report as to what type of injury it is Its supposedly a hip injury. Either that or the gout.

Dustin Hermanson "back"
Hopefully the White Sox are activating him out of respect for his effort to try to pitch. I hope to God they don't throw him out there in a situation when the game is on the line.

Jenks sent back to Chicago
Yet another reason the Sox should regret losing very winnable games up until now and thinking they can wait until the last couple of weeks to turn it on. Jenks will continue to incur injuries if he doesn't take better care of himself. Hopefully fitness will be a priority for him this offseason. He will regret all the money he cost himself and his family if his habits don't improve.

Brandon McCarthy is not a phenom
McCarthy has had a pretty good minor league record. He also was very impressive his last call-up last year ending up with 3 wins and a 4.03 ERA which isn't bad, better than most of the greatest rotation ever assembled's career ERAs.

Ryan Sweeney to start in RF tonight.
QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 10:00 AM) If we are going to give him his first Major League start why can't it be over Pods in LF? Pablo will most likely be in LF. Mack is the only guy on the White Sox roster not named Sweeney or Dye or Anderson that actually wouldn't make everyone laugh if he were penciled to play RF at Fenway Park.

Ryan Sweeney to start in RF tonight.
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 09:31 AM) Yeah, all lefties cant hit other Lefties. Have you seen Sweeney's splits in AAA? You would think you would want to put one of your top prospects in the best position to succeed starting out. Ryan Sweeney is my favorite White Sox prospect. I just think its asking an awful lot of a kid to basically begin his major league career playing the toughest RF to defend in baseball, in a pressure packed game, facing a left hander, something he has had problems with. If the White Sox had another right handed OF who could actually play RF, there is no way Sweeney would start tonight.

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 09:13 AM) If he goes 0-4 with 2 K's will the board still be issuing well wishes? I'm not a huge fan of giving a 21 year old his first start by replacing a possible MVP candidate, in Fenway Park, while in a Wild Card race...call me crazy. Not to mention facing a lefty.

The last dance for Chief Illiniwek?
I hate all things U of I but I really don't see what the big deal with the Chief is. But, if it really offends some people, I really don't see why it would, but if it does, dump him. The Chief definitely hasn't had a very good effect on the Illinois football program the past several years, and I really doubt any sane individual would actually think the Chief is even remotely responsible for any of the basketball team's success. If alumni are going to stop sending cash to the program because of the Chief's elimination--------WOW, the U of I is even creepier than I thought.

And That's a White Sox Loser
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) DA...what's your opinion on the Jenks and his lack of consistently velocity this season? He's only been in the real high 90s about 1/5 of the games he's been in. Last year, he was in the very high 90s a lot more often? Do you think it is due to just wear and tear on his arm over the year, or might his conditioning be preventing consistent performances? He's had a very good season this year, but I hope he can hold up the rest of the way. He went from having his best stuff of the season (Sat night) to his worst tonight. Personally, I think it probably is the couple things you mentioned. Wasn't last year his first year relieving? It seems to me he was never a big innings guy even when he was starting. Maybe all the appearances are taking a toll, and the bigger factor to me was his attempt to put Old Country Buffett out of business all by himself last offseason. He's fat. I hope the Sox monitor his weight this offseason. But I'm with you, watching Zumaya on ESPN last night consistently go 100,101,102 made me wonder what happened to Jenks 100 mph heater. Bobby has gotten his curveball over and at least close enough to swing at with 2 strikes this season. If not for that, his ERA would probably be 4.50-5.00 IMO.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) Thornton 3.40 ERA 1.22 WHIP .222 BAA How is this not good. Again His whip and baa are better than Bobby Jenks, and his era is only 0.02 higher, and the guy probably thinks Thornton sucks and Jenks is the greatest.

And That's a White Sox Loser
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:20 PM) I really, really, really, really miss Gio Gonzalez, Daniel Haigwood, Tyler Lumsden, and Chris Young right now. Yes, I know hindsight is 20/20. I had no problem trading these guys (save Young) at the time. I was all for winning right now. But with it looking more and more with each passing day that we're gonna be watching the playoffs come October, it's safe to say we traded away a big chunk of our future for nothing. I've said it a 1000 times, the Vazquez trade will be KW's worst ever. He can't do much worse. A lot of people point to Vazquez's record, but his record is crap considering he has had the lead in all but 2 starts, and sometimes he had the lead 3 times in the same game.

And That's a White Sox Loser
QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) calm down everyone it's not over until it's over more seriously though, its only game one of the series if we win the series then I'm fine with this I'm angry that we lost against the royals, but I won't let that anger carry over to this series for now Playing a Red Sox team without Ortiz or a handful of others at full strength, with Julian Taveras starting, and only having to score 3 runs in 9 innings to win, and not being able to do it, plus blowing a 9th inning lead, is every bit at pathetic as dropping 2 out of 3 to KC. This isn't 2005, that's for sure.

justin morneau's great quote
QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:03 AM) Everyone [except Jose] is projected to pitch less innings this yr than last. Jose threw 204 innings and is on par for 205. 2005 innings projected 2006 Jon-221 205 MB-236 216 Freddy-228 213 KW had 6 SP's this yr in case someone went down, not to give guy's a rest. No teams give their SP's a breather during the yr, unless a guy is hurt. He stated numerous times that guys may need a break because of the workload last year, and that McCarthy would fill in when they needed that couple weeks off. This year's totals may be down a little but add that to last season's plus the postseason, and remember White Sox starters still lead the league in innings pitched this season.

Tucson Electric Park to get makeover
I'd wish they would upgrade the city of Tucson to make it more presentable.

justin morneau's great quote
QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 07:09 AM) Which guys on the sox can you name that don't have that passion?! The numbers I bet are very few, if any. Even Freddy who gets p.o.ed at his teammates has passion to win How often do teams skip a guy's spot in the rotation just to give a guy a rest? The SP's have almost certainly pitched fewer innings than last year at this point. I'd be interested in the numbers [though the innings eaten by the bullpen when el Duque threw shouldn't count]. Most guys haven't gone as deep into games this yr. that, IMO, counts as a "rest". White Sox starters lead MLB in innings pitched. These are the same starters KW was so worried about after last year's workload that he had 6 starters on the roster for a rest. They haven't gotten that rest and have not been very good. QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 08:12 AM) Yea, no team in baseball lets their starters go 6-7-8 innings a game. No team at all! Really!!! Yes, Ozzie keeps his starters in for too long, but saying "it's stupid, letting starters go 6-7-8 innings a game" is completely wrong. The point of a starter is to have them go 6-7-8 innings a game, not to take them out at 5 innings and say nice work. Whether or not the pitcher should be left in the additional inning (ala Freddy, Javy) is a different case all together, and that decision should be made while watching the game, not by generalizing about past starts. I just wish Ozzie would be more proactive with the pitchers than reactive. For instance, its almost a given that Vazquez is going to piss his pants in the 6th inning. If the Sox have a 4 or 5 run lead its one thing, if the game is tied or its a 1 or 2 run lead, why wait until the first 2 guys get on base to yank him? Have someone else start the inning.
-
justin morneau's great quote
Isn't it ironic that for all the rest Ozzie has given his regular players, he has given his starting pitchers none?
