  1. All I am saying is this is a guy who put up a 6 bWAR, costs $10 million next year, and the Reds couldn’t trade him for a broken bat. I don’t know how anyone could expect Kimbrel is going to be popular at $16 million.
  2. They needed OF because they didn’t have depth. The Soler trade is hindsight at its best. Did you have any posts saying the Sox need to acquire this negative WAR player? The Sox had plenty of these types already around, enough where Eaton who was in the same boat was sent packing.
  3. They apparently couldn’t trade him. Do people really think some team just has to have Kimbrel at $16 million?
  4. Wade Miley put up a 6.0 WAR has a $10 million option and the Reds put him on waivers hoping someone would claim him so they would save the $1 million buyout. The Cubs claimed him.
  5. Crazy how criticism works. Back in the day, Greg Walker was ripped for supposedly having a “lift and pull” philosophy. Of course, that wasn’t true either.
  6. That is probably the game plan without saying it. If there was some sort of structural problem, they would have dealt with it, but probably being 10-15 lbs lighter will take a load off his knee.
  7. It could be one reason they didn't announce the option decisions today even though we know the decisions have been made. Might be doing the same with Kimbrel.
  8. I think Hahn has a degree from Michigan, a law degree from Harvard and an MBA from NU. Turns out JR was ahead of his time hiring this type in the front office.
  9. The beauty about baseball is even with the same roster, everyday you field a different team because of the pitcher. Sox pitchers were awful that series. If they were not, wh is playing 2B and RF probably isn't as big of a concern.
  10. It is interesting Hahn won't say anything about the 2 options waiting to dump it tomorrow. The Hernandez news is out. I would think they k ow exactly what they are doing with Kimbrel, but if you are bringing him back, why refuse to address it?
  11. Since for years they were one of the healthiest teams, he must have become real dumb. It is amazing one bad covid year gets this guy fired by guys , who if they held themselves to the same standards, would have been done in baseball years ago.
  12. I don't think there is much hindsight there. He was always dynamic, a 26 year old free agent. If there ever was a time to do something crazy, that was it.
  13. If a team was willing to trade for Kimbrel they could do it today.
  14. Why pick up someone else's junk? Yerevan are guys on that list if the White Dox really wanted yhey could pick up for basically nothing and the other team may be willing to throw in some money. Why risk it with Kimbrel? He might get injured before they could trade him. You aren't getting additional value. Free up the money, admit it didn't work out and try again. People who trade for a living and are successful, make a lot of bad trades but are disciplined enough to be able to admit they are wrong and get out of the bad ones and ride the good ones. The amateurs if they are crunched and have a winning position and losing position and have to get out of 1 will almost always get out of the winner because they want to be right. In the end, they wind up out of the lower as well with even a bigger loss.
  15. Yes he will, although others also confirmed. It wouldn't surprise me if Kimbrel was the reason this was delayed. Maybe they wanted a trade done right away.
  16. Despite all the reports, I fully expe t Hahn to announce Kimbrels option was declined today.
  17. If Kimbrels agent is about to become a GM, that would be helpful.
  18. It was for far less money, and a far less profiled player, but that is exactly what the Sox did when they gave Viciedo some money. They leaked how he was drawing strong trade interest. Yet no trade.
  19. It is different, and you did make a good point. Deals get nixed by ownership after basically being done deals often. It isn't worth the risk to me unless you are willing and prepared to have him on the roster, which to me means having a payroll at least $16 million higher than you were budgeting.
  20. I think if Kimbrel was traded to a different team at the deadline, became a set up guy, and performed the exact same as he did for the White Sox, if Liam Hendriks Tarot card reader told him he needed to give up pitching and become a pro surfer, there would be no one here thinking acquing Kimbrel, paying him $16 million and giving up a good player would make any sense.
  21. As bad as Cesar was for the Sox, and he was pretty awful, his career would indicate he probably would be worth $6 million next year. Will be interesting to see if they go really expensive or try to get by on the cheap at 2B.
  22. Law mentioned that his stuff and command have taken a step back. I just don’t see a team giving up something valuable for the right to pay him $16 million in 2022. I was never against the Sox getting him. I didn’t like what they gave up, but other than injury, this trade pretty much turned into worst case scenario. I guess it is possible they would rather trade him for someone who will never get past A ball than pay him another $2 million.
  23. I do think the Sox job is Jason’s dream job, but if he wants more exposure, now would probably be the time to do it. I would think in a few years he will get sick of the extra traveling and preparation. Now he is just living the dream with the Sox and all his other assignments, but I’m guessing in 5 or 10 years, calling Sox games will be plenty for him.
  24. Sox could use a left handed hitting RF. A probable HOFer in his prime would have been nice.
  25. To me, the answer is simple. Rodon gets a QO if his late season injury was just fatigue. If it was a legit shoulder concern, thanks for 2021 you were outstanding, but if you want to come back, getting really rich will require hitting on incentives.
