  1. I wouldn't see why not, but I am also pretty sure Boras wouldn't show his hand.
  2. Didn't KW threaten Orlando Cabrera back in the day not to take the QO?
  3. OTOH, the constency is a problem. Teams don't want to pay $16 million for a guy who will be unhittable for 3 or 4 months, but mediocre at best for a couple of months and the playoffs. We will see. I hope the Sox get this one right.
  4. One thing I don't understand is why Tony. Who clearly colors his hair, leaves that little strip in front gray.
  5. The last time there was labor unrest, the Sox did go from a WS contender to Terry Bevington, so there is reason fot some worry, but I don't think they will make the same mistakes.
  6. It’s the right call because they save $1 million. I wouldn’t have taken the risk. I posted yesterday, Kimbrel has been traded 3 times.2 times when he was much cheaper and younger, and had fewer question marks. Nick Madrigal is probably the best player any team ever received for him. I think this is close to crazy. Teams willing to pay closers $16 million is limited. Teams willing to pay closers $16 million and currently needing one is more limited.
  7. It will all come down to what happens with him. If they trade him and get a broken bat in return, they did the right thing. If they trade him and eat or take back any bad money , or he is on the team as a mediocre set up man and stops them from spending $16 million on other needs, they fucked up. I don’t think anyone is arguing with you whether Kimbrel has been an elite closer. He has, but the Sox have an elite closer. They need to spend this $16 million on something else.
  8. The other thing is Kimbrel has been traded 3 times. Nick Madrigal might be the best player he was ever traded for. So it's not like he has brought back big pieces even in his prmie.
  9. I think he will pitch better in 2022 than he did with the Sox. I just don't think there is a chance in hell some team will take the contract, and give you value in return. I think they are far better off spending the money on other help. If the Sox needed a closer, would you be doing an Irish jig if the Sox picked up Kimbrel for $16 million and gave up a significant peice? To me, this is just making a mistake,a bigger mistake. Every team makes mistakes. Compounding them when your window is open, closes said window a lot quicker.
  10. Keith Law wrote his velocity and command were down. He assumed he would be bought out and thought Kimbrel could get 1 year $10 million on the open market. if that is for giving up nothing, how do the Sox get something for 1 year $16 million? For whatever reason, he was pretty bad with the White Sox. i'd rather they spend that money on a cu\uple of pitchers, or a really good 2B or RF.
  11. Southpaw is a HOFer
  12. Being stubborn and obviously spending money unwisely is acting like a big market team? Results don’t change their process? I wonder what Allen Thomas would think about that statement.
  13. I once sat next to Roland Hemond at a White Sox/Yankees spring training game. He gave a couple of insights. One was how he had agreed to a trade for Doug DeCinces but the medical people nixed it because of his back.
  14. He should fly first class or a private jet the 300 mile flight between Phoenix and Las Vegas or he is an asshole. He is an asshole, but he did nothing wrong, and actually, if this guy is being straight and took whatever Tony told him directly to social media, was probably a little too friendly.
  15. A lot of waiver claims and 1 trade.
  16. All I am saying is this is a guy who put up a 6 bWAR, costs $10 million next year, and the Reds couldn’t trade him for a broken bat. I don’t know how anyone could expect Kimbrel is going to be popular at $16 million.
  17. They needed OF because they didn’t have depth. The Soler trade is hindsight at its best. Did you have any posts saying the Sox need to acquire this negative WAR player? The Sox had plenty of these types already around, enough where Eaton who was in the same boat was sent packing.
  18. They apparently couldn’t trade him. Do people really think some team just has to have Kimbrel at $16 million?
  19. Wade Miley put up a 6.0 WAR has a $10 million option and the Reds put him on waivers hoping someone would claim him so they would save the $1 million buyout. The Cubs claimed him.
  20. Crazy how criticism works. Back in the day, Greg Walker was ripped for supposedly having a “lift and pull” philosophy. Of course, that wasn’t true either.
  21. That is probably the game plan without saying it. If there was some sort of structural problem, they would have dealt with it, but probably being 10-15 lbs lighter will take a load off his knee.
  22. It could be one reason they didn't announce the option decisions today even though we know the decisions have been made. Might be doing the same with Kimbrel.
  23. I think Hahn has a degree from Michigan, a law degree from Harvard and an MBA from NU. Turns out JR was ahead of his time hiring this type in the front office.
  24. The beauty about baseball is even with the same roster, everyday you field a different team because of the pitcher. Sox pitchers were awful that series. If they were not, wh is playing 2B and RF probably isn't as big of a concern.
  25. It is interesting Hahn won't say anything about the 2 options waiting to dump it tomorrow. The Hernandez news is out. I would think they k ow exactly what they are doing with Kimbrel, but if you are bringing him back, why refuse to address it?
