  1. With the Bears offensive line and scene, I wouldn't play Fields except for a roll out, QB run or screen pass the rest of this season or at least until the play caller and designer are changed. No use getting him hurt or developing bad habits. He needs to be the guy at some point, but not this year.
  2. 5.3 WAR in 120 career games. Considering the last month of last season he was pretty clueless at the plate, and probably still isn't 100% physically now,, it's pretty incredible. Looks like since he solved chasing low and away sliders, the league is perplexed. This guy might be Mike Trout with a better arm.
  3. Last night was the first time I saw beer vendors in the stands all season.
  4. They get a roof, hich is probably a given,, they get Final 4s, Super Bowls, Big Ten championship games, and probably plenty more.
  5. If they get a little entertainment district built around the place in Arlington Heights, they still will have people from the Northwest suburbs hanging there and spending money after the games, as well as people who take the metra.
  6. Arlington Heights is a 75k population suburb. They aren't going to be able to give the Bears big breaks. Maybe the state will, but if they do it will be a long drawn out fight. I suspect Virginia eventually passes, and the team is sold to someone who can afford dropping big money into a stadium. Patrick Ryan owns just under 20% of the team. He just gifted Northwestern $480 million. Maybe it's him, but he is 83 years old, so who knows.
  7. I agree. The Bears, as bad as they are, and the NFL, has outgrown Soldier Field just like the league has outgrown the mom an pop organization that is the Bears. And the city and state would be foolish to build them a stadium.
  8. The Bears pay $6.5 million a year in rent.
  9. I think they easily could attract 7 or 8 college football games a year. It's 10 events.
  10. It won't happen. They would compete for events with the Bears new place and would be smaller, less modern and fewer amenities.
  11. Yeah that too. They think, and probably correctly, it would hurt a city casino. New York Jets and Giants don't play in NY. Washington doesn't play in Washington. The Cowboys don't play in Dallas. The 49ers don't play in SF. The move sucks for ticketholders who live in the city and south, although NW side fans probably will have an easier time getting to Arlington heights.
  12. They want bigger capacity, a retractable roof, more fan experience space, and would love an entertainment district closer. I read an article quoting some guy who has been involved with NFL stadium building the last 15 years or so. He said the only way Lightfoot could give the Bears what they want is to build a new stadium in the parking lot, or teardown McCormick Place East, which I guess is rarely used anymore, and build it there. Building the Bears a stadium makes little sense.
  13. As a city resident, I just don't think there is the public money to do what the Bears want. It is 10 events the city will have to make up. A few college football games and a few extra concerts is much better than pulling out all stops and making the McCaskeys even richer.
  14. Which is really no different from what they are doing with the Bears and Fire. Leasing lakefront facilities to private companies.
  15. This doesn't close for over a year, plus even if the stadium is privately funded, they still will be seeking infrastructure improvements, and that political battle could take several years, plus these new NFL stadiums take 3 or 4 years to build. It wouldn't surprise me if the Bears played out their lease. In fact, if the McCaskeys don't sell after Virginia is gone, I would bet on it.
  16. It's at least 5 or 6 years away from happening, and that is probably generous. It's probably to up their sale price. I think when Virginia goes, the team gets sold, and this purchase agreement raises the value of the team, and gives the new owner an option. I personally can't see the McCaskeys spending that much on a privately financed stadium, or they would have done it already cheaper.
  17. City wouldn't sell lakefront land to a private company.
  18. I am no fan of Lightfoot even though I voted for her, but she is in a can't win situation. Soldier Field can't be expanded very much. She can't give the Bears what they want there. Her only chance is to build them a new stadium, and that is not going to happen. I kind of like her strategy here. Call their bluff. If they really are serious about spending $2 billion on a stadium, let them go to Arlington Heights. It's pretty easy to get to on a Sunday morning, and has a dedicated Metra stop.
  19. I was just in. There are definitely more available than the pre sale last week, but they are in the corners of the upper deck , corners of the lower deck, and obstructed by the fan deck in the OF, and some scattered singles. Most are singles. You may have better luck with 3 tickets than 2 as you cannot leave a single when buying on Ticketmaster. Bleachers and OF seats are $115. Lower corners are $105. Upper deck from $51-$61 from what I saw.

  21. I would imagine from the pre-sale last week, you are looking at the top 2 rows in the last sections of the upper deck at best.I would guess they held seats back for new plans for the season tickethllder pre-sale last week. It probably just depends on how many of those held back get gobbled up today. I can't imagine there is going to be a scenario where you will be thrilled with what you get.
  22. Yes, and individual game pre-sale today. Pickings will be slim.
  23. Abreu used to hit far more in Cuba than he does here. Get an elbow guard.
