Could Getz Have an Actual Master Plan?
I am at the point where I need to be shown progress not just get excited by some words during a softball interview. Obviously one is a little more serious than the other, but hearing that things are going to change is like hearing an alcoholic tell you they will now stop drinking , or a drug addict saying they will stay clean after countless times you have heard it before. I will believe it when I see it. Assuming they will f*** it up has been well earned. JR teams don’t usually have a formula for sustained success. It’s usually pissed away fairly quickly. I hope I am so wrong this time. Just remember he called the new hitting director the Brian Bannister of hitting. I guess the White Sox and their fans were just lucky Baltimore fired him.

Chris Getz on the REKAP podcast
Was he using any of these can't fail "processes" when he ran the Sox minor league system? Players seemed as unprepared as ever to my eye. I bought into the Pedro Grifol processes when he was hired, and was made a fool. I'm not buying what I hear in a softball interview.

Soxfest back for 2025
They got Gus Varland. That should ensure a sellout.

Evaluators Fear Game’s Direction Amid ‘Doom And Gloom’ Offseason
I agree. More efficient, will beat the old way over time, but everyone attempts to play the same way. I used to love the NBA. I like watching Curry hoist up 3s, but it's all everyone does anymore. Baseball, same, although they did bring steals back. Hopefully, they can find more than one or two ways to efficiently win. All players are pretty much evaluated the same as well.

White Sox sign LHP Martin Pérez
The more things change, the more they stay the same. But they do need more starters, and he does work some innings, even if usually very mediore.

White Sox sign LHP Martin Pérez
The White Sox have been interested in Martin Perez for a very long time. They tried to get him in the Alex Rios/Leury Garcia trade.

Roki Sasaki Free Agency - Dodgers vs Blue Jays for Roki's heart
If the White Sox were where we hoped they would be, and where they told us they would be right now, there would probably be a decent chance this guy would be interested. But why, when he could go wherever he wanted for basically the same money, would he choose a team who just set the record for losses in a season, and don't seem to have a roster that can't flirt with breaking that record? The same with Kim. Why would he sign with the White Sox unless they are willing to pay him significantly more, which we know they are not, than other teams who at least try to win?

Also, their schedule next season is going to be brutal.

The Bears are so out of touch with reality, they still believe they will be building a new stadium on the lakefront this year. LMAO.

Would we be
The caveats being they suck drafting in the second round, and they rarely use all of their bonus money. But this is the first pick in the 2nd round, and they SHOULD use all of their bonus money.
-
Would we be
I think everyone knows that, but people are so sick of watching bad baseball, and looking at this team, that's all you can see for the foreseeable future. JR has to sell.
-
Would we be
If you look at the White Sox 2nd round picks the last 50 years, it wouldn't be a huge hit.

Yoan Moncada bought out
He could be the position player Rodon. But I just can't see how Yoan stays healthy.

White Sox agree to 1 year deal with INF Josh Rojas
Kim alone isn't going to get them out of the basement and JR isn't going to spend the money needed to make them not embarrassingly bad. At least this seaon they should get a higher pick. I will never understand putting together a team the GM said 110 losses wouldn't have surprised him when the highest you can draft is 10th. I can't wait for the team to be sold and common sense is used to clean house.

White Sox agree to 1 year deal with INF Josh Rojas
Especially when the first at least 2, but probably 3 or 4, years of his content would be all meaningless games.

White Sox are interested in RHP Jakob Junis
It’s not like the White Sox are going to pay him significantly more than a team planning to keep him the entire season. That would make them unflipable.

Who is going to be DFAd for this guy? I’m guessing a pitcher.

Sox Acquire Tyler Gilbert for Aaron Combs, DFA Braden Shewmake
It is, and if the Sox didn't trade him, he probably would have been tested at a different time, and might not have been caught, and 40 homers a season might have continued. But he would have been traded in the last 2 years anyway. Admittedly, they would have got a lot more than James Shields.

White Sox agree to 1 year deal with INF Josh Rojas
The thing is, there were a couple of teams in on him, at least with the rumors. Did the Sox offer him more money? Maybe, but significantly more? Kind of doubtful. I'm guessing they offered him playing time. But you never know. I was watching MLBN a couple of years ago and Kevin Millar was talking about fringe players being free agents. He said panic starts to set in right around Christmas when you aren't signed. It could just be this guy didn't want to wait because he might have had to sign a minor league deal.

White Sox agree to 1 year deal with INF Josh Rojas
They just set the all time record for losses. If the bolded is true, they are not living in a reality based world.

White Sox agree to 1 year deal with INF Josh Rojas
I disagree. At some point Montgomery is going to get a shot. Ramos is now a guy who needs to be evaluated at the big league level. Same with Vargas. The little guy from Boston should be ready at some point. Sosa should get ABs. Baldwin as well. Amaya should get a shot. If you're going to suck, play the young guys. There was no reason for Tommy Pham, and I doubt this guy will be as good as he was, in 2024. He played fine, but the younger guys should have played more.

Sox Acquire Tyler Gilbert for Aaron Combs, DFA Braden Shewmake
The one thing the teams that were successful at rebuilding did that the White Sox did not, was clean house in the front office. The people that got you in the mess, aren't the ones that are going to lead you to sustained success. At some point, you're going to be back to having to add a player here or there, like you said, the little things, and they get those wrong. Getz, like you wrote, is the same. The one small hope we have is the team is sold fairly soon, and the new owner realizes the problem. But now we are stuck, and 30+ year old DFAs and non tenders are our big moves.

Tatis Jr. was obviously a horrible trade, but you would have hated him on the White Sox, especially after his PED suspension. And he would now be a free agent, because there was no way JR was giving him all that cash. 2020 and 2021 might have gone better, especially 2021, as 2020 the Sox had 2 starters when the playoffs came around. After that, missed all of 2022 with an injury and PED suspension. Do they trade him then? Probably pennies to the dollar. His OPS dropped 200 points in 2023 from 2021, and the Sox lost 101 games, so not much of a difference he could have made.. Do they trade him then? Probably pennies to the dollar. Maybe they trade him at the deadline in 2024 and get a couple of decent prospects, but the team still loses 100 games. Might not have set a loss record though, but that's a lot of money to pay out for a couple of prospects.
