Maybe Hector Santiago is next. I get it, it's a minor league signing to perhaps fill the Charlotte staff, but can't they find something more interesting. You aren't going to want this guy on the mound in Chicago, he hasn't put up a 1 WAR since Kevin Youkilis was playing 3rd for the White Sox and you know most of the Charlotte staff seems to appear at least briefly in Chicago at some point. I get most guys that get what he gets are brutal. But maybe one of them has a shot to be better. He doesn't.

I've ripped KW, RH as much as anyone, but there is no chance they would trade Madrigal and Vaughn in the same deal, let alone for a 35 year old injured pticher, unless they were guaranteed the ALC title the next 3 or 4 years.

He just listed and wrote teams looking for pitching. Read it. He had nothing on the White Sox and Ryu. Just read what he wrote, He added and White Sox. Expectation within industry is Ryu will exceed Bumgarner’s $17M average annual value in deal of at least four years. Two industry people with knowledge of starting-pitching market predict minimum four years, $80M. Teams still in need of starter include #BlueJays; #Angels; #Twins.

You lied. You said Rosenthal linked the White Sox to Ryu last night. Might want to read again. He just said the White Sox are looking for pitching.

2019-2020 Official NBA Thread

I am telling you Jim Boylen is the NBA version of Terry Bevington. The only thing missing is a cheesy mustache. -
Being too risk averse, makes your team win averse. Yes, giving him 4 years is probably crazy. But so is giving Wheeler 5 years and $125 million, and this guy was the better pitcher. If you are going to sign someone near the top of the free agent class, you aren't going to get a bargain. If the Sox need some sort of obvious "value" on every signing, their signings will be guys closer to the bottom than the top.

Dallas Keuchel is now too old for the White Sox to sign. He was drafted 8 months after the team’s last playoff appearance. The team still has the same 3 dopes making the decisions.

I am a White Sox fan. The better they play the more I enjoy the game. I could watch Oakland vs. Seattle game but I wouldn’t be too invested. I will admit when they suck a few of the barbs out of the stands make me laugh, but for the most part, going to@game James Shields starts and having it basically over in the first or second inning isn’t very entertaining to me.

Hahn indicated the White Sox were told Wheeler preferrred the east coast. Perhaps they thought no one would go more than $110 million and thought the buffer would have been big enough, or maybe if they went to $135 million, Philly raises its bid as well. All that really matters is the Sox had a target, and they missed. You can take the fact the Sox mad the highest bid as a moral victory, and doing all they can do, I take it as embarrassing. Someone would rather play in Philadelphia than Chicago and proves it by taking less money. Why doesn’t that happen to the Cubs? l
-
For what they get in salary and term every one of the top free agents is going to eventually be an overpay. And the teams that get “burned “ by signing these guys, keep signing more of them.
-
That has been my argument. The location doesn’t seem to hurt the Cubs or the Yankees, or Red Sox. But White Sox? It isn’t a first rate organization, and until they start winning, the guys who can go anywhere will chose elsewhere if the money is essentials the same. They can only blame themselves for letting this franchise go down as far as it has. The Tribune didn’t even have a beat writer most of the season. It is a unique problem for a franchise Rick Hahn went out of his way to describe as a destination. i am amazed the pass they get on this.
-
If they are dragging this another year just sell the team to someone willing to run it like a major league team in a major market. If this offseaon is a wrap from a trying to be as good as you can be perspective, take the money you have been banking and the final sale price of the team and go away.
-
They can make all the excuses they want but as of today the White Sox wo will not dance with Boras, and until they do they will be a lower tier franchise.
-
I think you are off on this one. MadBum got $85 million but $15 million is deferred. Kluber has 2 team options in the $15 million range. So they can get out of that any year. Far more desirable situation than Price and he is 1 year removed from a Cy Young. Not 3 years of being average.
-
He has averaged 21 starts and 2 WAR the last 3 years. He has had wrist and elbow issues. He is going to be 35. How many red flags do you need?
-
If they aren't adding a pretty good player, I see no reason why you want to help them out. Just for Price for a return of Daniel Palka or worse and nothing else coming from Boston, If I were GM, they would have to eat at least $55 -60 million.
-
His wrc+ was 129 last year. He is an older version of JDMartinez , obviously a notch or two below, but so will be his paycheck. It is an opportunity to improve the team and it will cost less than Machados friends. To me it's a no brainer. I like McCann. I was one of the few who wasn't up in arms the Sox signed him last year, but Grandal seals his fate. Trade him, get something, save the cash, if the team isn't winning, flip EE. So for a slight bump in payroll you get EE in your line up and a prospect or two or a reliever with some upside.
-
One place where the White Sox organization has failed is not havi g their Nike jerseys for sale on their website for Christmas gifts. Just trying to get rid of the Majestic inventory is going to upset a lot of people who are not aware.
-
Here’s the thing, with Grandal around, there is zero chance McCann re signs with the White Sox unless he has a bad year.then you probably don’t want him anyway. Collins is the back up catcher, you could actually let him face right handed starters, and Edwin is still mashing. His bat in the line up every day would really help this team. A lot of teams are looking for catchers.McCann’s 2019 might have been enough to make one of them give up something very interesting for his services, and losing him most likely isn’t the difference between winning the WS in 2020 and not. Plus you give him a solid with a chance at more playing time during his free agent year.
-
Bruce reported the other day the Sox met with EE’s people. This could be due diligence , it could be something more. If he was brought in to be the main DH, I would think McCann would be the odd man out. He would be strictly a back up catcher being paid over $5 million and a free agent in a year. What kind of package could he bring back in a trade?
-
I think if those guys were getting what you suggest, they would be signed right now. Some things are obvious. And one of them is Price isn’t worth anywhere near $60 million anymore. Let alone sending talent away. I don’t think Hahn would give up Madrigal or Vaughn for Price even if Boston ate 80% of his contract. Banking on a soon to be 35 year old often injured pitcher when you don’t have to is not very smart. And it isn’t like his wrist was his only issue.

Sox acquire Nomar Mazara for Steele Walker
Dick Allen replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The thing I liked was he gets burned on advanced stats probably because he played in Arlington, but his home road splits are really similar. What his numbers have been really could be a floor. And as awful as people want to make them, they really aren’t all that bad. Lifetime, he is a .754 OPS which isn’t awful for a 24 year old. He averages 24 homers per 162. Whether he improves , who really knows, but the talent is there.
