Have you listened to Hahn. He said the White Sox are now a “destination “ for players. That and the money will be spent should mean they get whoever they want.
-
He would only have to beat a 2 year contract at that point, and perhaps other teams would be in for him. When the White Sox are the odds on favorite for your services and Scott Boras is your agent, it seems your options are limited. Obviously a year older, they may even be more limited, but you never know. The White Sox paying $25 million a year to a DH seems far fetched.
-
They need to at least bench Trubisky. What are they worried about ruining? If he gets better, he can come back.
-
Has any coach’s stock dropped faster than Matt Nagy’s in a half of a season?
-
If you were JDM would you bank on JR and Boras hammering out an agreement that is financially better than what the Red Sox gave you? I know someday the White Sox will spend money guys like me laugh at every time it is speculated they are about to do, and because of the Manny fiasco, they will spend on someone this winter, but with a Boras guy? As an insider, I am certainly fake, but Stones names seem right. Someone who may or may not know, but has White Sox connections told me, MadBum.

You are correct, but there is some logic to his thought. One thing though, it was supposedly pretty miserable around that team even when they won 108 games and the WS. Its possible he is looking to get out of there. It is still Boras and the Whits Sox didn't stick around too long for Bryce Harper last year.

Steve wrote Wednesday starts the rush to put together rosters. The rush has been a 4 or 5 month slow dance the last few years.

No sign and trades in MLB.

Hawk Harrelson wins the Ford C. Frick Award

He is going to eventually get it. Hopefully it will be while he can enjoy it with family, friends and fans. So since he is now 78, dont be petty and make him wait. -
Sox trade rights to Welington Castillo to rangers

It could hurt them even more directly than fans,. When they bring these guys in, they give them a big presentation showing the player how he will fit in with the White Sox takeover of MLB. This will involve signing or trading for other high priced guys, and eventually having to pay their young guys a lot of money. What other teams give away bonus pool money to eat negligible buyouts? Would you buy the White Sox willingness to pay for sustainable success if you were a star player? What would you think a guy like Boras thinks? Its like trying to impress your dream date by showing how smart you are byusing a BOGO coupon on your first date. -

It’s just hard to take a team is serious about signing top of the line guys when they do something like this more than once. They look more like the Marlins or Pirates than the Yankees or Astros or even Cubs. -

The money will be spent. For a team that gets so defensive when they are thought to be cheap, they sure seem to go out of their way to make many feel that way. -
Sox trade rights to Welington Castillo to rangers

That is apparently what they determined. I think they gave up $1 million for Jones, $250k here. There was no one worth signing with the $1.25 million. I am guessing 5 or 6 years from now, some name or names will emerge that will make their determination incorrect. And it's the optics. Is it really worth the buyout for all the negative publicity they are going to take? It's not like $500k is going to be a difference maker for an MLB team. -

Jon Jay gets $4 million and this team can't use their pool money to sign players . Instead trading it for financial savings. If money is so tight dont blow it on what you blow it on. In the end this probably makes no difference because they weren't going to sign anyone. But why is a left question. It seems after Hahn broke out his checklist for everyone and he was able to check the take a penalty internationally box, they have become even more conservative in that area. Almost a been there done that time to move along thing. -

I am guessing it was the Rangers as they already knew the White Sox are always game for anything that makes the checking account balance a little bigger. -
Yes, unless facing fewer ends an inning.

Fire Boylen. It was a joke they brought him back. If they think they are a legit playoff team, they aren’t playing like one. -
The problem is his terrible defense is only getting worse, and he is 32. A NL totem signs him, they don’t want him in the field as a34 or 35 year old.

Wasn't one of the reasons DD got whacked the RedSox had become a miserable place to be from the executive offices to the clubhouse? Maybe he would want to get away, but maybe not. With his limited market and QO, is opting out worth the risk? If a couple big spending teams needed a DH, I would say definitely, but besides the White Sox, where else is he going to go?
-
I think there was a bit of both. I know everyone hates David Kaplan and he's a Cubbie guy, but he was telling a story a couple of weeks ago how he was talking to Jeff Passan right before Manny signed, and Passan told him the White Sox weren't even close. He knew how they were $50 million short. He wasn't fake surprised when he took more money. He didn't try to spin how their's was the far better offer, but they couldn't afford the one they said was inferior.
-
Plus I think he can opt out again next year . Positionally challenged, opting out is not a given especially if his market doesn’t include Boston or the Yankees or NL teams.

Porter is playing with a hip problem.LaVine hit a 3 and I thought this might be different, but he was back to sucking at close out time. It’s an ongoing issue. At least they don’t have 5 guys injured yet. -
When the team actually starts winning, I will give Rick Hahn his proper due for building it. Until then, his reign has been an absolute mess.
-
Yes, a Boston radio guy I believe is the source. What is even more interesting is later in his article he went through the Sale trade, and supposedly the White Sox were offered Lopez, Giolito and Robles for Sale, but wanted Trea Turner added. He also mentioned the Sox were trying to add Devers to the Boston deal, but that didn't happen.
