Rosenthal: “rival exec believe white Sox will spend big”

A fungo bat, and a Nicky Delmonico signed ball. -
Braves sign Donaldson to 1 yr 23M deal pending physical

I do not think it would move the needle much, but I do agree with your previous post, if they draft top 3 again, there are big problems with the rebuild. -

That is because basketball is different. Super teams wouldn't work in MLB. 2 or 3 superstars and a bunch of scrubs doesn't work in baseball. -

If the Sox were going to sign Harper. Donaldson is a guy you may bring in to make it more attractive, but preferably for 2 or 3 years, averaging less than he is going to be paid by the Braves. -
If waivers works now like it does during the season, every team except the Cubs and Sox has passed on him at least once, many twice. I would not be surprised if he is already on waivers again. No one really wants him on their 40.

Morosi: White Sox interested in "both Machado and Harper"
Dick Allen replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Has any team ever lost 100 games and won the pennant the next season? -

Must be because of all the upgrades they made. They only lost 100 playing one of the easiest schedules in the league. -

Draft lottery for all teams not in the playoffs. Equal shots. Maybe after the top 3 or 4 picks, go in reverse order. If there was a cap, the playing field would be leveled a bit. ESPN, Fox, and MLB Network might not like it. Anything that helps big markets is good for ratings. -

That's why MLB needs a salary cap. In other sports with the cap, It just goes crazy right when it starts because guys need to sign with teams before they run out of money. Either that or maybe remove the draft pick loss and international money forfeited on qualifying offers if the player signs before a certain date. It would be motivation for teams to make better offers sooner. -
Good luck with that. 36, coming off a PED suspension, owed $120 million over the next 5 years.

Shocking. Just shocking. They knew what this guy was before they drafted him, and took him anyway. And they are now releasing him. -
The problem is the guys on the major league team we are all counting on in the future are currently strike out machines with relatively low OPS.
-
If the White Sox actually had hitters with supreme OPS, it wouldn’t be a question at all. But they had a .700 OPS as a team and set a major league record in strikeouts, and so far it has cost neither the people who put together these players, or the people who coach them anything. So it is very understandable why White Sox fans in particular are sensitive to high k totals.
-
Lisle’s White sox problem is his new team has The worst of both worlds . The k rate of choice A, and the OPS of choice B. The White Sox had no one except the recently departed Ryan Lamar’e with an .800 OPS with more than 15 plate appearances, and set a MLB record for strikeouts. I don’t think anyone worries about k totals with sluggers who hit home runs and get on base, and produce runs.. Hopefully this guy can have an impact. There are probably a couple of current guys he may be able to help. The rest is going to require roster change.

I think even the posters who mentioned signing both don’t really believe they will sign one until it actually happens. -
The trade was pretty much always going to be based on what Rutherford becomes. Everyone else was pretty much a throw in. Like with every prospect acquired, there is fantasies about what would happen if everything went right and Clarkin became legit, and Polo was an everyday major leaguer, but those were lottery tickets.

And guys will be on innings limits, and guys will get hurt, and guys will suck. If he pitches well, he will get an opportunity. If not, he won’t. Nobody is buried on a 62 win team.
-
He is a thoracic Outlet Syndrome guy. Isn’t that pretty much of a won’t do anything but suck sentence?
-
Might as well fill up the 40. These guys can still be removed correct? So remove if an acquisition requires it. But protect as much as you can just in case.
-
But wait, something broke in his oven. He will have it repaired, but he won’t be able to roast his turkey for at least a year, probably two., maybe more if so,etching else breaks.

Thome put up a WAR better than both combined in 2006. Rowand got hurt but was struggling. 2007 Rowand had a big year, but wouldn't have made that Sox team competitive. They were awful. And Thome out WARed Frank again. There is also question as to whether Paulie would have stayed. -
Actually their f WARs were about the same and Yolmer had significantly more PA. That said, who cares about Diaz? Hahn should be shooting higher.
-
He wouldn’t be bad, but the question I would have is why would he sign with the White Sox for 2 years when he could probably get the same money and be with a contender? As opposed to most of us on here, where if the money was the same or close, we would pick the White Sox every time, I just don’t think they are an attractive destination for an older guy near the end of the line who really has never won, and is probably looking to do so.
-
Jim Thome is a big backer of this guy. Do damage. OBP is life.
