  1. That's true. How many people would be wearing this to a game? Especially when they became good.
  2. Neither was the prospect Eloy was. Moustakis was highly regarded but really struggled for a while, yet, you take his numbers, he will have made about $1.5 million less than Tim Anderson was guaranteed when he bought out his arb and a year of free agency. Inflation would cover that IMO. I just don't think you can count on the offensive equivalent to Sale sign a team friendly extension even if it sets them up for life. The Sox had 3 of them. It's pretty incredible they were able to do that. If anything it shows guys actually like playing for the White Sox. The exact opposite of bitterness because they took advantage of the rules.
  3. If he wasn't interested in signing something before he ever played a major league game that would set him up for life, he wasn't going to sign something if he has some success later just because the Sox called him up in September 2018. It's ludicrous to even consider that a possibility. Just like everyone else, if the Sox want to keep Eloy if he turns out to be great, will be to pay him the most money. Bryce Harper didn't sign an extension. The Nationals were pretty nice to him. Manny Machado didn't sign an extension. The Orioles were pretty nice to him. The days of the Sale-like extensions, especially for big time position player prospects are coming to an end. You do endorse holding guys down for Super 2 reasons. Why wouldn't that piss a player off?
  4. Because the grudge opinion does not work. Every team would do this in the White Sox situation. They are one of the few that doesn't do it every time. If that means guys won't sign with these teams, they are going to limit their markets to teams that can't pay them anyways. Eloy and his reps know the score. They knew what was going to happen. This isn't shocking to them. It's the rules, and it's stupid for teams not to use them to their advantage, just like players use rules to their advantage. It was something that was collectively bargained. If Eloy and his agents have an issue with anyone, it's the Union for agreeing to this. Maybe he will be so pissed off he will refuse to join. I really don't know what he would get out of facing the Tigers anyways. It's a glorified AAA team, and supposedly he gets nothing out of facing that kind of competition.
  5. The White Sox are mean. They trade guys and make them move. They release guys, make them get other jobs. Sign guys to team friendly contracts, just ripping them off. Now don't call up a guy because the rules make it not so smart to actually call him up at this point. Just worthless. It's amazing there are enough guys willing to take their money they are able to field a team with that kind of history.
  6. So he will blow the Cubs off and sign with a team that would have done the same thing. For some reason , I tend to doubt it, he will sign with the team that wants to pay him, just like Eloy will if he becomes an elite free agent.
  7. So you know for a fact the White Sox won’t kick the Cubs asses in the future.
  8. OMG, Hawk said the Sox are going to kick the Cubs ass to a bunch of White Sox fans. What an asshole. The correct thing would be maybe the people complaining he said this could have said nothing.
  9. It is also nice the Raiders hired an egomaniac to coach them. A guy who has bought his own hype to the point where he doesn’t think he needs stars to win.
  10. It will be the highest price a team has paid in a trade for a defensive player in NFL history. But this is exactly what this defense needs. With what they have to pay him, and the draft picks, as long as he performs, he is well worth it.
  11. Totally different situation with Frank. Different rules, and the team was trying to make the playoffs in 1990. Kris Bryant must really be pissed at the Cubs. Not only did he have over 500 AB in AAA when they didn’t call him up, he lead the spring training world in HR when they sent him back down in 2015, a year they made the playoffs. It’s just talk. Eloy and his reps know the Sox are doing exactly what they would do in their situation, but putting some pressure on them won’t hurt them. There won’t be much to gain other than Eloy gaining service time with a call up now. Most of the balance of the schedule will be AAA/spring training quality anyway. It will cost him about $90k now, but if he turned down a contract, $90k shouldn’t bother him at all. Everyone knows what is going on. I would think most would be on board that we have crossed the line where it would make any sense to give up the control to show off a new toy a while ago. Also, what if he pulls a hammy or twists an ankle his first couple of games? Giving up a year for 30 games is silly, it would even be sillier if it was for fewer.
  12. He won't be able to check the extra year of control box until April. So he didn't check them all.
  13. Opt outs will be a huge part of their contracts IMO.
  14. I once had someone tell me about an interview with Minnie Minoso on a pre game show back when he was a player. He was leading the league in HBP, and the interviewer asked if he thought it was racial, Minnie replied with he wasn't black, he was Cuban.
  15. So it's OK for Eloy to do what is in his best financial interests, but not the White Sox? I don't know what a grievance would do. What exactly would be the line. Does one hot week in AAA mean a team would have to call you up? Does it matter what the current roster is doing? I think it's pretty obvious what the White Sox are doing. And it's what most teams in their situation would do. The teams that wouldn't, are the teams looking for some instant box office bang, and will trade a guy like Eloy the second he starts making any money.
  16. Why would the White Sox trade a month of games where basically most of them will be of AAA quality, for an extra year of control? Who knows what the situation will be in 7 years, but so what, we know what it will be now, and it's not a big price to pay for what they will receive, even if it turns out to be nothing.
  17. i agree completely, but ....... They are mediocre to bad, but all the advanced numbers make them out to be top 3 or 4 awful in the league. In the tanking era, you get several extra wins by just trying to win, and the East is pretty bad. I don't see how their chances of being a below average team, which is all you need to be to make the playoffs, instead of a horrible team, are 50 to 1 against.
  18. The Cubs guarantee may have been slightly less, but they gave him a bunch of outs, so if he played up to the contract, it would have been worth a lot more.
  19. i agree completely, but to say they are a 50 to 1 shot at the playoffs is a bit crazy. They are mediocre to bad, but all the advanced numbers make them out to be top 3 or 4 awful in the league.
  20. ESPN's BPI gives the Bulls a 2% chance of making the playoffs. There has to be something i am missing here. I get they are not a 60 win team, but among the worst in the league is hard to believe.
  21. Looks like the umpire just told Engel he looked safe on the replay yesterday.
  22. Time to say good bye to Big Game James.
  23. It seems to me instead of getting the call correct, many times the replay guy just looks for one view that supports the call made instead of getting it right. There was no question Engel was safe, but one of the views made it look questionable. i think it would be far more effective if the reviewer had no idea what the call on the field was.
