QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 02:55 PM) Too many walks, way too few strikeouts from the starters. Oh well, at least Kopech/Cease/Dunning have looked good and Lopez looks great Yes, but even Lopez was walking too many guys. I think they will improve. There is nothing worse than watching a walk a thon.

It's going to be nice when Sox pitchers start throwing strikes again.

The amount of times White Sox pitching and defense have let guys get on base without a hit or what should be a hit is a huge problem this homestand.

QUOTE (Whitesoxin2019 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 12:56 PM) I don't think it was premeditated on her end. Sure she signed off on in. Money Talks. Its still demeaning to women. Does paying her off make it ok? Demeaning like grabbing them by the p****? What did Hannity say about that one? Oh yeah, just locker room talk.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 01:07 PM) that's a great read. Really would have been fascinating to see how that would have developed. Have to say...the new ballpark renovations are nice...but the initial design REALLY missed the mark IMO. Especially not having home plate face downtown. LOVED those hand drawings... I get the whole skyline thing, but unless you were in the upper deck, and we know how White Sox fans feel about the upper deck, you don't see much if any of the skyline no matter which way the park faced. And the problem with a north or north east facing field is it does keep it colder during those April games and those May night games. If you go to a game now and sit downstairs, it's much colder when you walk out of the park than it was at your seat. The structure blocks the winds from the north a bit.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 12:56 PM) This is exactly it. And we have elite arms in the system right now, more than anyone else in all of baseball. There are also still only 5 starters in a major league rotation. Exactly. Chances are a couple of these guys will probably be relievers. A guy like Lopez, to me, obviously, see what he is as a starter, but if he can't harness his control well enough, at the very least, if he stays healthy, he looks like he would be a stud in the bullpen. Hansen may be the same way. Fulmer. That's 3 right there. Kind of old school, failed starters become relievers. Burdi is also there. So, tons of options, and they seem to be pretty good at choosing them cheaply off the dumpster.

QUOTE (SoxFan2003 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 12:54 PM) Left field and right field look like they might be 200 feet down the lines. I doubt MLB would allow a ballpark to have the old Polo Grounds dimensions anymore. Other than that, I agree with your post. Yeah and it looks about 5000 feet out to CF. They would have added another fence like they did in Detroit. The other thing is, it was facing due north, with nothing to even partially slow a north wind. It would have been so cold there in April and May.

I don't know if it's his back or he just started to suck, but it's really too bad Saladino didn't develop as hoped. He's one of the few White Sox farmhands who came up and seemed baseball smart.

Joe McConnell was a true pro. RIP. But on to Harry. Can someone explain to me if Sportsvision was the Sox death knell and WGN and Harry were the Cubs pot of gold, how come in 1982 the Sox outdrew the Cubs by over 300k. In 1983 the Sox outdrew the Cubs by 650k, and in 1984 the Sox, despite the Cubs making the playoffs, outdrew the Cubs by 25k? Sportschannel was over by then. This was before big money in TV. Bill Veeck's last season as an owner, the Sox were getting $3k a game for TV. 1984 happened. That's what turned the Cubs into the darlings they have remained. It wasn't Harry. This stuff does happen. The Bulls couldn't draw flies until Michael Jordan. Now they lead the league in attendance when they try to lose. The Hawks probably will have that. The Bears have no problem filling Soldier Field. Maybe someday it will happen for the Sox, but something really unique is going to have to happen. They will probably have to have an incredible run. It can't be ownership, because if it's anti Reinsdorf, why doesn't it carry over to the Bulls, where so many tried to blame him for the break up of their dynasty which resulted in, at least at the time, the worst 3 or 4 year stretch of any team in NBA history.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 11:16 AM) Also Trump isn’t a fan of traveling out of the country, and I doubt he feels welcome in South America It might be a good place for him to flee.

QUOTE (Whitesoxin2019 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 08:41 AM) Tagged as mansplainer You can’t defend this https://i.redd.it/mwt19dw2uwq01.gif I don’t care if it’s old. Harvey Weinstein sr was a known pedo as well, for many years, but it didnt surface until now. So who cares if “America conscience” Jimmy kimmels stunts are from the past. He should apologize at the very least. But his minion fans don’t see the double standard. People are dumb. It's a freaking skit. But I am glad it's over. Now Melania can get back to working on cyber bullying.

I think the only difference a ballpark could make to the White Sox popularity, is location, and across the street really wouldn't make much difference. Yes, the current park was pretty basic, especially compared to the parks built later, but IMO, they have done a nice job with renovation, and it's more than fine. I did read a Detroit Free Press writer say it just gets uglier every year. I have no idea how a guy who lives in Detroit can call anything ugly, but I think it looks really good. The ribbon board going all around now has more stats and numbers. The facade of the the club level being painted darker looks a bit better. The scoreboards are great. All we need is a really good team and we are cooking with gas.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 09:54 AM) Yeah prime Lincecum was definitely a star. Yeah, the point being, you aren't going to win with a rotation of Gavin Floyds, no matter how much some want to spin it. If Giolito is Floyd, that will be a disappointment.

QUOTE (FloydBannister1983 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 09:16 AM) He needs to win a Cy Young or come relatively close. He hasn't come relatively close. He also can't have too many more 17 game seasons. He's also on the disabled list to start this season. Could be minor setbacks but guys like this do breakdown early. It doesn't matter, he was a star when they won the WS. Using fangraphs to determine HOF worthiness isn't always a good idea. According to them Javy Vazquez has more WAR in about 400 less innings than Mark Buehrle. I don't think there is a sole here that really would rather have Vazquez on the mound instead of Buehrle in an elimination game.
-
QUOTE (FloydBannister1983 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 09:08 AM) I'm not sure about that. He's been on fewer all-star teams than Mark Buehrle and is showing signs of breaking down. He excelled in the post-season but he only finished as high as fourth in Cy Young voting. Buehrle finished fifth. He is not much more of a star than Mark Buehrle. According to Baseball Reference Hall of Fame Statistics Posey isn't Hall of Fame (yet). It's still towards the middle/end of his career and he's on the wrong side of 30. He's Paul Konerko. When the Giants won the WS in 2012, Buster Posey was the MVP. That's a star.
-
QUOTE (FloydBannister1983 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 07:34 AM) The Giants won three without a bona fide star. They had a pitcher who was definitely a star, and a HOFer behind the plate.

How does Tampa Bay have only 2 runs?

I hope Archer didn't find his groove. He was very vulnerable before those last 2 ABs.

Can Ron please start a thread about how Steverson should be fired. Get the offense back.

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 9, 2018 -> 02:13 PM) Keystone Kops. Seriously, this TB team is 1-9 and Gonzalez is at 50 pitches almost, with 4 outs. 45 minutes old in the top of the 2nd. Awful.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 9, 2018 -> 01:44 PM) Is there any proof on the ticket for when you bought it on Stubhub (can't remember off the top of my head)? I don't think they would even pay attention. I'm sure there is, but it shouldn't matter. Technically you are buying from another person who paid full price, so the team still gets their money and a little cut of the Stubhub fee, although I am sure the team throws tickets on their all the time.
