QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 10:51 AM) We have CF for him, possible trade/release of CarGo depending on if he is good or bad, possible trade of Garcia, possible struggles of young guys getting early at bats and being sent to minors (Tilson, Engel, Delmonico, etc.). And you have Leury Garcia. The Sox have 11 OF on their 40 man. GarGo can DH, but it's also a spot to rotate some guys in for major league ABs. There is more downside than CarGo just sucking or being average, and the Sox being out a few million. It does take away some opportunity. Maybe they all would be awful anyway, but at least you would have an answer. The closer Jimenez and Robert and the rest get to the big leagues, the more the opportunity to give modestly rated players a chance closes.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 10:47 AM) If we sign Gonzalez and he turns into a Casey Gillaspie or Ryan Cordell, I'd call that a win. Ironically, acquiring him could be at the playing time expense of these players. Although Gillaspie can use more time in Charlotte. That's pretty clear. But Cordell needs major league ABs or he will be another guy we all forgot existed in a year or two.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 10:44 AM) Yeah and he and CarGo can share the DH spot in a straight platoon. Make Davidson earn every day at bats. What about Cordell? He'll be 26 years old. It's time for him to s*** or get off the pot?

QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 10:23 AM) Probably something along the lines of what Beltran went for with the Rangers depends on how well he is hitting at the time of deal. Of course such a return is wholly dependent on if/how he rebounds and what he signs here for (1 year deal, 2 year deal) https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/08/indi...-as-likely.html So if everything goes right, a previously pretty highly rated prospect who was struggling at the time of the trade.

QUOTE (FT35 @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 10:13 AM) Honestly--IF--he proves he can hit anything remotely close to what he has in the past (and stay healthy of course), I think we could get an organizational top 10 plus a wild card if we were able to sign him below market value. That and some jersey sales. So is that worth what we would pay him between now and then? Lot of things would have to go right. I think it's a waste, but it's a better idea than Derek Holland for $6 million last year.

How does anyone with all their mental faculties support this guy?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 09:57 AM) For the record I have still yet to see anyone reputable saying that the Sox ARE TALKING to Moose, and not that he is the best logical fit for Moose. I don't think there would be much discussion considering the agent. I'm pretty sure if there will be a signing, it would be to the White Sox liking contract wise. So, I would think for that to happen, just about all other avenues will have to have been exhausted, and he still has the spring training injury door that hasn't closed.

The guy has pretty much been average to bad for 4 years, and is streaky as hell. What, realistically would you get on a flip for him if everything goes right?
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 09:42 AM) Ok but I'm talking about drafted arms. Some thought Burdi was a reach in the first round due to being a reliever, but if he becomes elite, or just a guy you can rely on, it's a great pick. Not every first rounder is a superstar.

Cold Stove - Free Agents Still on the table

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 09:24 AM) I asked this in November in a catch all. Could only find some Toronto blogs asking to sign him. Nothing on the guy himself. I wonder if he's still recovering. I found something, and it's very weird. https://jaysjournal.com/2018/02/22/blue-jay...y-brett-lawrie/ -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 09:04 AM) The difference is that Matt Kemp's money only covers two years and would purchase a sub-market asset with 6 years of control. It would be spending money now to save money in the future. Theoretically. But if you're paying Matt Kemp $23 million this year and next, do you really think Manny Machado is a possiblity? The facts are, it doesn't add up. Kemp alone will be paid not too much less than Moustakas will ultimately sign for. So if trading for Matt Kemp wasn't going to prevent the White Sox from spending a ton in free agency, neither will signing Moustakas, and you have a back up plan already in place, just in case the $300 million + man, and the $150 million + middle 30s man somehow defy all logic and odds and don't choose the White Sox.
-
RE: Money. Why, as I have read on these boards, do the Sox have money to trade for Matt Kemp if a prospect comes along, have money to trade for Corey Dickerson to DH, have money to sign Manny Machado or Josh Donaldson. But if they sign Mike Moustakas to a team friendly contract, they have pretty much used all of their capital, and are screwed moving forward?

Cold Stove - Free Agents Still on the table

Heyman did have an interesting White Sox note, whatever happened to Brett Lawrie? I know he wasn't the greatest, but he must really be messed up physically not to garner a spring invite from someone. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 08:37 AM) What do you mean by Rosenthals on the DL? He had back surgery. Hopes to be back by Opening Day. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 06:08 AM) That Heyman and Morosi are the main pushers of these narratives tells me all I need to know on whether to believe it. Morosi, to me, is the most inaccurate guy who actually gets a lot of face time on MLB Network. I don't think it's even close. Heyman is a Boras mouthpiece. That is well known, but he throws a lot of his own opinions out there. Rosenthal, to me, is the king, and he's on the DL. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 07:50 AM) I just listed twelve guys for six relief roles and acknowledged there are other major league quality arms I’m ignoring. I fail to see how I’m being optimistic here. Burdi & Cease project as impact relievers. Filling out the rest is simply a numbers game. There are a heck of a lot of guys who project to things they never become. I hope all the White Sox prospects reach to their projections and above, but it's not realistic to not think at least half of these guys are going to face plant. If they don't, it's gravy, but right now Eloy, Moncada, Hansen, Kopech, Robert, are all future 9 figure contract guys. Hopefully, 2 are.

It's too bad so many won't use common sense because they want to make guns a republican/democrat issue.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 07:22 AM) I personally hope we add one impact reliever and then go young with the rest of the pen. I think we have the pieces to accomplish that. Let’s say we sign Andrew Miller for example sake. We could be looking at a 2020 pen something like this: CL: Burdi SU: Miller SU: Cease MR: Fulmer MR: Bummer/Fry/Clarkin MR: Vierira/Hamilton/Burr LR: Stephens/Adams/Guerrero And I’m sure there are other potential pen guys I’m missing. But overall I feel pretty good about the depth we have in place on the pitching side and agree that will allow us to splurge on the positional side. You are way too optimistic about White Sox prospects.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 22, 2018 -> 09:26 PM) Where the hell do you come up with these odds? I have never seen a poster throw out random probabilites more than you. Right now, all four of those guys are within two years of free agency. Odds are they will wait it out for a big payday if they haven’t settled already by this point. Anything can happen, but I’d wager none of these guys resign with their current clubs prior to testing the market. And yes, the Sox with a $50M payroll will have TWTW a bidding war in the $150M. For f***s same, they just spent $50M on an amateur free agent. I’m certain they plan on going to the $300M+ range for Machado. Probably won’t be enough to outbid the Yankees, but once they’re out of the picture we’re as dangerous as anyone. People really need to accept the fact that the Sox are going to spend like crazy over the next two years assuming no stumbling blocks with the rebuild and that the old way of doing things will no longer be relevant. They say things will be different and I believe them, but I will believe they will sign one of these guys when they actually sign him. No offense to anyone.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Feb 22, 2018 -> 07:05 PM) I’m not a fan of this signing. I don’t want to give up the draft pick for him and I think his injuries are catching up and will continue to do so. Judging from Hahn’s comments, I don’t think you have much to worry about unless his price becomes a very non Boras number.

Trump says Obama took no action on guns. He will. Obama had a bipartisan bill to expand background checks. The republicans killed it. When will this guy be required to tell the truth?
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 22, 2018 -> 06:22 PM) Whose playing time did I ignore? All the guys who were not full time players. You ignored if they played 15 games or 150.you ignored if they sat vs. LHP or RHP. You ignored if they were September call ups, or just some player that had a hot week. And you took these guys and made a blanket statement that they were better hitters. These are things you wouldn’t ingnore nomally.

Since Trump is thinking about pulling ICE out of California and in his mind causing a crime wave never before seen, is there a way, if he was correct, for it to be considered a treasonous act?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 22, 2018 -> 06:13 PM) Just like every teacher wielding a gun would then become the first targets of the attacker. Since public school records have to be published, it would be easy to research exactly who has certification and permits to carry a gun. Also, for all we know, ex military suffering from PTSD might not react well under stressful combat conditions after 10-15 years away from that environment. Just like this SRO apparently. I agree. Teachers will be the first target. These attackers do so,e planning. Let’s face it, the chances of your particular school being attacked is slim, so chances are the guards will either not be on guard satisfactorily or might be a little too gung ho.
