  1. QUOTE (Whitesoxin2019 @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 02:11 AM) I don’t care if you’re independent, right or left. The media is a deceptive disgrace. CNN the worst. My only objective with the fake news awards is fox is not much better. (See 2008 2012 Ron Paul election coverage) But what we have here is a gold mine for the independent thinker not inside an echo chamber. I present the archive link instead of gop because GOP are scumbuckets and Trump broke the site. Hate him or love him but these are accurate awards given for the #fakenewsawards . This calling out of irresponsible reporting is the right thing to do. Of course the storylines will be attack on freedom of press. Well you know what? When our press is being funded by a handful of mega corps I think we need some checks and balances. Shame on anyone here who thinks intentionally deceptive reporting is good reporting. 1. The New York Times’ Paul Krugman claimed on the day of President Trump’s historic, landslide victory that the economy would never recover. 2. ABC News' Brian Ross CHOKES and sends markets in a downward spiral with false report. The rest https://web.archive.org/web/20180118010005/...ke-news-awards/ You do realize Trump uses this "fake news" dishonest media to distract from his own lies, don't you? Tax cuts won't help the rich. Mexico will pay for his stupid wall. He won't have time to golf. When Obama was President, the stock market and employment rate were doing the exact same thing they are doing today because of the almighty Trump, then they were a "bubble", and hoax numbers respectedly. Speaking of hoaxes and shams, what about Russia? the list goes on and on. He averages over five lies a day.
  2. Trump now bragging about scoring a 30 on his cognitive test. The actual test is all over the Internet, if he is bragging about getting a 30....
  3. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 08:02 PM) Tried to warn you guys that Hoiberg wasn't the worst coach in history Nah, that would be Tim Floyd.
  4. So let me get this straight, Dreamers are a danger and need to get out if money for a wall isn't made available, but they are just fine in America if the wall is built. What shame Trump is using these people as pawns for his ego .
  5. QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 03:01 PM) Too many people having the same opinion? DICK ALLEN TO THE RESCUE! I said I like the player. I just don't take scouting reports from BP seriously. But keep up with your agenda. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...686003-132.html
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 03:17 PM) How do you know what was being thrown to him if you weren't there for the BP session? You're right. He was hitting bombs all over the field vs. nasty stuff.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 02:46 PM) You have to remember a lot of people haven’t seen this guy play in person before. The fact that the batting practice results are living up to the hype is only a good thing. So we know he can hit 75 MPH fastballs right down the middle. It's batting practice. And depending how these guys have spent their winters, some will be ahead of others even in BP at this point. I don't want to take away from him as a prospect, and don't want to sound skeptical, because I am not. But this is batting practice. When Dylan Covey gets lit up, he is called batting practice. Where's Allen Iverson when you need him?
  8. I really like Robert, but batting practice results have really taken spring fluff to a new level.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 11:10 AM) I'm fine with you doing that, but he wouldn't accept circumstantial evidence in another thread so he doesn't get to speculate here. That was his standard - He has to have personally been in the room when the measurement happened to be able to tell me what the actual height is. Speculation based on photos isn't allowed. LMAO. You act the same age Trump acts.
  10. QUOTE (zisk @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 11:19 AM) AE is 26 already. fine glove, great speed. 25th man at best. Why such a deep discussion about a very mediocre talent? He doesn't have to hit a lot to be valuable. The problem is, he has a long way to go to only be a very mediocre hitter. He has had flashes.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 10:40 AM) Based on photos he's shorter than Obama who is 6'1" and shorter than Trudeau who is 6"2" So Hawk wouldn't want to buy any lumber from the guy measuring Trump.
  12. QUOTE (KnightsOnMintSt @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 10:23 AM) I really hope that they give Adam Engel a full season of starting, or at least considerable at-bats. While his offense may not have been where we wanted it to be, the defense was oustanding, and he has great speed. 2018 is one of those years where I would really like guys like Engel, as well as Delmonico and Davidson, to get considerable at-bats because I think they all have that potential to be apart of the teams passed 2019. He received a decent amount of ABs in 2017. I'm sure he will get some more in 2018, but he is going to have to hit a lot better, and hopefully the White Sox have a couple of other guys who can push him for playing time. Not many guys get as many ABs as he has received with his results.
  13. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 09:34 AM) Nope I don't drink coffee and I also don't want to pay $60 a year to read a few articles.. So you wanna quit being a dick or what? No, you want someone who does pay to give it to you just because for free. And you are the one calling people names.
  14. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 09:15 AM) Got an alert that said something to the effect that Yelich said his relationship with the team is irreparable His best chance of getting out of there is to shut up, and play really well so some team will meet the Marlins price . Pouting and playing the game he is playing is doing no one any good. There is zero chance the Marlins dump him for a discounted package right now.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 08:03 AM) He also grew 3 inches. Obama is 6'1". Photos standing together make them look about the same height. You probably could give Trump a 1/2 an inch on him if you were being generous. Certainly not 6'3". Supposedly he is 6'2" on his drivers license, and people do tend to shrink a bit when they get older.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 01:31 PM) Its funny how many people dont understand what an NDA is. Now they are saying they had a 1 year affair, and Trump promised her a lot of things that never quite happened. Shocking. He was only married to Melania about a year at that time. I wonder how much she gets paid to stick around. She must be NDA'd and prenuped up the ass.
  17. Stormy Daniels, the porn star Trump allegedly paid off, although he denies, has a friend who was on Megyn Kelly today. Her friend stated Stormy told her when it happened Trump was chasing her around in his underwear. That would be a sight.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 12:02 PM) Just two games but man Lavine hasd a shot and he can flat out score. I really hope he stays healthy and can keep improving. Hell with what you all think, I think we got a darn nice core going right now. This team has been quite enjoyable to watch. I was very skeptical, but I have to agree. Levine definitely seems like the real deal. He gets to the rim what appears to be effortlessly. Dunn's shooting is up and down, but everything else except the occassional turnover bug, seems exceptional. Lauri is obviously going to be a great player. Some of these other guys seem to be decent bench pieces. I am not buying the Bulls attracting a top free agent, but if they could, I could see this team as being too good to call it NBA hell. It's almost to a point where if they trade someone, it better help their draft position drastically, because if it is only slightly, a guy like Threekola nailing 3s, is pretty valuable, and could make you worse in the long run.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2018 -> 12:27 PM) Why not the same standard for the two white pitchers who had all of the tendon, ligament, and muscle injuries indicative of steroid use? Look the other way, the only Cub who ever juiced is Sammy. The other sick thing about it was it was totally ignored until he couldn't put up Little League HR totals anymore.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 11:12 AM) I'm through with this game it's making us all dumber and you're going to make me suspend myself if I keep typing. Your quote: They explicitly chose to do something else That tells me you know for a fact they had other opportunities.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 11:02 AM) So you're saying that Gillaspie and Cordell would have fallen in the 10-15 range had they qualified? Hmmm, so you agreed with me but you can't admit it because you need to pick a fight using an impossible to answer hypothetical. Prove to me that a prospect in the 10-15 range at lower levels was never offered. That's the same thing you just demanded I do just back at you. Give me the list of names who were actually offered since you clearly insist I have that. Show me that no one at that level was ever offered. You asked it of me so you clearly must be able to do it yourself, otherwise you're just picking a fight. No I don't. For the love of God, you said much younger guys in the same range were available to the White Sox. I am pointing out that is very debatable. And, as usual, you can't deal with any possible way you may be wrong. You are the one who needs to show names. You are the one who said these younger guys were available but the White Sox chose a different route. If you were running a team, and you had a 25 year old and a 19 year old rated about the same and you had to trade one, which one would you trade?
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 10:51 AM) Here's Cordell coming in pre-2017 at #12 in the Brewers system, found another list with him at #15. Here's Gillaspie at #5 in the Rays system coming into 2017. To fail to recognize what the White Sox did with these deals is pure naivety. OK. That was coming into the season. Gillespie wasn't there anymore. Cordell was hurt and blocked, and will be 26 on opening day. That isn't like a 19 year old top 15 prospect. Coming into 2017, Carson Fulmer was rated #5 on the White Sox, Hansen #9. At the trade deadline, who had more value?
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 10:34 AM) You know darn well that's an unanswerable hypothetical question, and you also know darn well that would have been fair value for those guys. No I don't. You are saying they had a choice. You don't know that as a fact. The guys they received have plenty of flaws and are either pretty blocked or of the age it's time to either put up or cut bait. To say a 19 year old 10-15 range prospect could have easily been substituted is pure speculation, and for many reasons, perhaps not true. There's nothing wrong with picking these guys up by the basket full, there is certainly going to be another JD Martinez or Jose Bautista or Justin Turner that becomes really good after scuffling, but teams would rather give these older guys up than the younger ones identified with potential.
  24. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 10:18 AM) For the first year or two if they can show old games and whatnot that would be cool. Do they have these rights? Say for instance the first year in the off-season they show every win from the 1969 season, that'd be cool but what do they do after that? Then how many people what to watch that? That's why the current NBC Sports channel works. You get other sports programming to cover gaps. And it's 24 hours. They probably would have to show the National Shuffleboard Championship and crap like that, and a bunch of infomercials.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 10:05 AM) One other thing I think that is being missed is that the White Sox had opportunities last year to add guys who would probably have fallen in that 10-15 range, in deals like the Swarzak and Jennings deals. If the White Sox had wanted to get them, they could have targeted guys at the lower levels of the minors, guys who were picked in the 2nd or 3rd rounds the last 2 years, and those guys would have filled in that 10-15 range. They explicitly chose to do something else. The White Sox realized they had another type of asset; they were moving so many big league players out of their system that they had a lot of playing time available at AAA and in the bigs, and they had a lot of open 40 man roster spots. They could instead target guys who were either blocked or who teams had soured on, acquire them, and give them a shot. That's how we wound up with Cordell, Gillaspie, Viera, maybe to a lesser extent Polo. Throw in some of the guys from our org like Engel, Delmonico, Leury - and that logjam at AAA/Big league level is what we have in lieu of depth in the 10-15 range in our prospect lists. Like "B" level prospects, not all of them are going to turn out, but there's very likely a couple of good ballplayers in there. Good teams in the past have found great players this route - giving guys a shot who were blocked elsewhere. This is how the Cubs turned Arrieta into a stud - took a guy the Orioles had soured on and gave him a shot. The key thing we have to do is actually play and develop them. If we acquire these guys and we don't give them a shot, then we have done this exactly backwards. Hence, this is why I go after every idea like "JD Martinez is undervalued we should go after him!" like we're seeing this offseason. We made a decision that we were going to give these guys a shot when we acquired them. If we don't give these guys a shot, then we screwed up every one of those trades. While I agree JD Martinez is not a good idea right now, who are these lower level prospects that would have been in the 10-15 range the White Sox turned down for Jennings and Swarzak?
