QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 01:51 PM) For sure -- but Giolito was being brought up as a potential NOW piece for Yelich, so we're talking about his current value as compared to the PAST value of the Sale package. OK. Then I agree with you.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 01:46 PM) Midseason BA: 75 BP: 31 Yes, he was pretty bad in AAA, but he when he was traded, he was somewhere between 10-25.

Pre 2017 Giolito was 25 BA 12 MLB 10 BP

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) Government says you need to pay X. But you pay X and then something additional. You do have that option on your tax return. The fact is Trump brags about how much he is worth, how great his companies do, yet doesn't pay taxes. If he doesn't have to pay, why do I?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 09:14 AM) The Republicans’ first legislative triumph of 2017 will ensure a financial windfall for the president and his family in a way that is virtually unprecedented in American political history. Living in a kleptocracy sucks. Trump the patriot, doesn't pay taxes anyways.

QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) The provision that the democrats introduced that made employers raise the wages with the corporate tax reduction that the republicans killed pretty much summed up their motives. One start would be the right finally coming around on raising the minimum wage. If they are touting this as everyone will be given a raise and this isn't for the wealthy, the tax cut should more than pay for it being higher. They are so full of s*** their eyes are brown.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 05:34 PM) Dick lives outside of Venice, FL, which is a 3.5 hour drive to Miami. I doubt he sees many Marlin games. I think he is pissed about the Rays getting rid of Longoria. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 03:24 PM) My favorite part is you being upset that you will lose on a couple five stars and probably now offer and flip recruits that were the top of the class for other schools. I wonder how that would work. Say you are a 3 star guy, maybe a borderline 4 star, and OSU offers you now. Do you really want to go there? Sure you will win all the time, but will you get a legit shot at playing? You know some 5 starts are coming the next year, and there probably is a few 4 or 5 stars in front of you. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) It's over folks https://twitter.com/DanClarkSports/status/943591957992894464 #Orioles aren’t going to trade Machado - weren’t happy with the offers. Now they just need to address the horrendous rotation, strengthen the outfield, add some left-handed bats into the lineup, and replace Zach Britton... With Angelos, I think the White Sox could have offered Kopech, Eloy, and Robert, and it wouldn't be 100% he'd accept.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 02:10 PM) He’s still young with plus tools, he’ll most definitely be a top 100 prospect. I'd take that bet.

QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 01:18 PM) This is inherently wrong. You should be able to voice your private political views, when not at work, without being fearful that you could lose your job. This is thought control to the nth degree. If organizations are so incredibly "image concious" that speaking publicly( whether on social media or calling into a political show on the radio) about politics, when not at work, is such a workplace "no-no" that you can lose your job there is something really really wrong with US corporate culture in general. The ramifications are incredible. The only thing that should matter is whether or not you are doing your job, not political ideology when off the job. I mean, this is your employer saying "shut up and do what you're told, otherwise starve to death" The only thing that should matter is whether or not you do your job. Obviously, extremely hateful ideology is an exception,(think Nazis) but just voicing reasonable political viewpoints on the web and losing your job is a slippery slope that leads to bad places, somewhere that we don't want to go in this country. As much as I agree with Ben's view on this subject, this is wrong, and ESPN is far from the only company that will fire you for tweets. These days, you might not get hired because of your tweets. Why should a company lose business because you like to open your mouth? Now if he kept it protected, I could see your point.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) On the same day Ryan helped to pass a $1.5T tax cut for the wealthy, he's also talking about needing to cut anti-poverty programs to get the national debt "under control" https://twitter.com/JordanUhl/status/943553072827166720 That was the plan all along. Most everyone gets a little more money, the real people get A LOT more money, but now the deficit, the deficit, what will we do? Well, we could take away this extra money we gave most of you, even if it's not a lot, or we can just stop paying for people who have no money. Most people will stick with having more money, even if it isn't a life changing amount. They aren't even trying to hide it. If there is a maker, I hope these thieves meet him or her. And I hope on Election Day regular people realize they have been conned.

I just don't know how Rutherford can be a top 100 prospect at this point. That's really crazy. Maybe he will develop, but if there aren't 100 prospects in the minor leagues you would take in exchange for him right now, the game may be in trouble.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) I don't think the Bears are that far away. And I do think they have drastically improved / enhanced their culture. They need offensive line help, skill position help, pash rushers, maybe another DB or 2. Probably a kicker. There are still a lot of holes. Trubisky developing though can make up for being short in other areas. And in the NFL, if you play your cards right, you are only 2 years away from the playoffs at your lowest point.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 18, 2017 -> 11:49 AM) It is unfortunate that an anti trump tweet did him in, but he should have known better. He isnt the first ABC/ESPN/Disney employee to get punished for doing something like that It's just stupid. Maybe not as stupid as the Pizza Hut employee who put the joke on the box. But it is the same in the sense it seemed they wanted to get fired. If anyone is unaware of the Pizza Hut story, someone ordered a pizza online and asked that the store write a joke on the pizza box. The joke was what do a gynecologist and pizza delivery driver have in common. If you don't know the answer, you can google it. It would boggle the mind to think someone actually thought putting that on a box and remaining employed was something that was going to happen.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 11:07 AM) I know nothing about Arroyo. Must be good. Edit: his stats in the minors don't look all that impressive. It's one of the fan advantages of salary caps. The free agents sign immediately. They can't be left holding the bag with every team using their space. It basically eliminates the Scott Boras factor. Next year might even be worse. We will hear about all the crap that is going to happen at the Winter Meetings, and it will be a dud for most teams. This winter was going to be boring for White Sox fans anyways. But the boredom has spread league wide. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 10:52 AM) Most deals like this have an opt out built in to them. For a guy who didn't pitch in 17 and only pitched less than 80 IP in both 15 and 16, he almost has to be willing to take some time at AAA if needed. No one is going to offer him a major league deal, and they are going to want to see him be both healthy and effective before staking a rotation spot to him. He is probably going to be looking at around six figures with a promise of a couple of million if he can make a team and pitch for some amount of time. I don't disagree, but I would think his tolerance for the minor leagues is probably less than most in his situation. I doubt he would stay there 2 months. A heck of a lot would have to go right for him to A. be successful, and B. get the team much in a trade. He hasn't been good in a long time. Maybe there is some miracle that could occur, but even if there was, chances are it would fade pretty quickly. -

I doubt he would want to hang at Charlotte very long. Didn't pitch at all last year and was like James Shields at his worst in 2016. Don't really know what kind of prospect a team would give you on a flip even if he had some success, but I would imagine it wouldn't be an interesting one. Probably one you could just buy with what you would have to pay Lincecum. He's pretty much a waste of money IMO. Just remember his glory days. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 09:33 AM) lost 3 5 stars in the last week, f*** early signing day. I think Ohio State usually gets more 5 stars in one year than most Big Ten teams do in a decade. I won't shed any tears. -
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 09:45 AM) Huge blow for #Orioles as closer Zach Britton suffers ruptured Achilles' tendon in workout, per @Ken_Rosenthal, and expected to likely miss first half of season... maybe forces their hand in dealing Machado or maybe not Too bad the Cubs didn't trade for him last week.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 09:40 AM) I agree with this. Probably don’t get less, but getting much more would require a desperate buyer though. I still think they’re better off trading him now and moving some other pieces like Britton, but it doesn’t sound like they want to rebuild. Angelos is going to turn 89 during the season. I don't think a full rebuild fits his schedule. He's pretty much screwed either way.

More info coming out, it appears the offers aren't good enough. Surprise.

This team was 3-20 6 games ago. Let's not get carried away, they suck, and have caught a few teams at the right time to beat them. Would anyone really be surprised if they lost the next 6? That said, they do need to trade Lopez, Niko, probably Portis ASAP. They need as good of a shot at Bagley as they can get. -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 08:23 AM) And still has 2 more surgeries to go. Reminds me alot of Tommie Harris. Potential hall of fame type player who might/will be ruined by injuries. This is what I am starting to think. We will see after he gets the other two, but it seems he is shutdown for some injury every season now. Some people just seem susceptible to injuries, even the freak ones, more than others. At some point, there has to be a limit on how many repairs to a body surgeons can make and still have that player be anywhere near optimal ability.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 06:36 AM) MLB at fault here. One of the requisites for new ownership is liquidity after the purchase price. Obviously, this was overlooked for the Jeter Group. I think it's done by design. Do they really want someone to buy the Marlins that will be throwing money at players like the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox and Cubs do, and not care too much about the bottom line? They would make 24 or 25 teams look really bad. When Loria signed Stanton, he and his son in law were already bragging about the deal, and saying they would never pay it all out. Stanton would opt out, and give them the out. They knew then, the franchise with it's revenues couldn't compete and have his contract on the payroll. He was there as a prop.
