  1. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 01:07 PM) Law has remained relatively high on Giolito throughout, right? Yeah, but I don't understand how he is saying he is looking like the guy who was skyrocketing the charts if his velocity is down and he doesn't have the same curveball. I will say, when he was bouncing his curveball in a couple of starts ago, he was fine throwing it in between innings warming up, and it was falling off the table.
  2. They need to name the DL after him. But he probably should be shut down. He isn't going to accomplish anything the next few weeks.. They need to let the Becks and Coveys , Frys and Bummers cover the bullpen innings vs. SF. SF and Detroit are huge series. More than a couple of wins is going to kill them for the top pick.
  3. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 10:40 AM) At the same time, players with mediocre MiLB track records generally don't go on to be productive MLB hitters. And it is beggars belief to hope otherwise. The hardest skill to acquire (wihin the limits of a player's natural ability) is to hit MLB pitching. Engel wasn't even above-average for the majority of his time in the minors. And others who came before him that were mediocre in MiLB were similarly unable to improve. Why would Engel be any different? I'll leave it at this: Even though the 2018 team doesn't figure to be competitive, the best player should still play over lesser ones. I'm simply not convinced that Engel is the best option, based on the entirety of his track record, & his abject lack of hitting ability @ the MLB level. Unless they get someone who is projectionable and can play CF in the major leagues next year, get ready to see a lot of Engel in 2018. They love him. The front office knows he is going to have to hit, but look like they are willing to exhaust every chance before they give up. Renteria loves him so much, he wants him to play if he can't hit. Maybe he could have him bunt 600 times a year.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 03:30 AM) Good Lord That would be devastating. I had always figured when I retired I would spend my summers and most of the fall in Chicago, and buy a condo in south FL for the winter. Now, maybe I'll rent or go to AZ in the winter. Even though I wouldn't be there for hurricane season, I don't want to own anything in any hurricane alley.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 10:40 PM) Wow. That means the rebuild is gonna take a long while if Abreu is too old. Their contract? Why would that matter? Why would some lady want Coop fired? Just cause he's abrasive? He mentioned Abreu will be 32 when his control ends, and you generally don't want to give 32 year old first basemen a ton of money in today's market. And seemed to expect his skills to diminish. That the funds could be allocated better elsewhere. He actually said that. He said Avi would be of a more desireable age, but he doesn't seem sold on Avi's turnaround quite yet either, and didn't seem too gung ho about paying him free agent dollars. So trade him while his value is highest. He did mention acquiring more prospects in trades, and those two, unless you are going to send prospects for prospects, are really the only guys that could bring you back interesting, unless you are really stretching out interesting, are really all they have left to acquire these types of prospects. He did mention Abreu's leadership and says that is definitely a factor, BUT it doesn't outweigh production. He also, which surprised me, said it was possible Melky could come back. There was a big Melky fan in the room. Hahn said he wasn't sure it was a fit, but definitely didn't rule it out depending on the price tag.
  6. I just got out of a ticketholder event with RH. A couple of nuggets Nothing too earth shattering. It looks like he will be listening intently on offers this winter for Abreu and Avi. Thinks their contract and age in Abreu 's case don't match up well with their window. A lady wanted him to fire Coop. Coop will be around as long as he wants, although he has had medical issues again this year. If he ever leaves Curt Hassler would take his place. He loves Engel but he has to hit although Renteria doesn't care if he hits. Says they had the top position and pitching prospect last off season with Mocads and Giolito, thinks they could have the same this winter with Kopech and Eloy, and thinks they may have it next year with Hansen and Robert. A guy can dream. He also said any thought of them not spending bg on a free agent or two when it is time, is BS. Said they will spend what they have to spend. He is pretty straight forward in these meetings. Last year he scooped the rebuild was going to happen.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 09:35 AM) His lies (like today's about taxes) and hashtags are meant to appease and mislead his fanatical base. And it works. His lies have almost his entire life. His entire existence is built off lying. In a way, you have to give him credit, he has gotten farther by lying than probably anyone. It's one thing he could brag about and actually be honest.
  8. In the photo accompanying Trumps Labor Day post about the future with American Labor made with American hands, Melania is wearing an Italian designer dress.
  9. Delmonico is supposedly playing tomorrow.
  10. Tyler Danish dislocated his left shoulder in a multiple vehicle accident on his way home from Charlotte.
  11. Did the Sox get rid of their pinstripes?
  12. He had 1 pitch 1 out, now he is looking at a 38 pitch inning. Coop will fix him.
  13. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 03:35 PM) Yea I was talking about the wall/securing the border, not DACA. Reading comprehension, everyone! He might "write code" but I'm not sure he "speaks English". Maybe he should get a visit from ICE.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) Shields has been relatively decent his last 6 starts since he dropped his arm angle. Definitely not great, but decent. Probably worth keeping him around in hopes someone will take him off our hands next summer. Super unlikely, but oh well. Yeah, as long as you are paying him, you'll always need someone to eat innings, and if you aren't going to win, his mediocrity is fine as long as it doesn't get too out of hand. Like you wrote, since he changed arm angles, he has been a bit better. I actually saw a 94 on the board yesterday. The HR will still kill him.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 01:57 PM) Do we know how that happened? Was he extremely lucky to start the year or was there an injury or velocity drop? He lost all his control, and became meat.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 01:41 PM) Holland's ERA on June 1 was 2.37. 9.32 after. Yes. It probably was the worst 3 month stretch a starting pitcher ever had without being yanked from the rotation for the White Sox. Jaime Navarro might have been worse overall. I do recall a game when he gave up 8 or 9 runs that he actually complained about run support. But I doubt he had a stretch that bad that long.
  17. Colleen Kane is moving to Bears coverage for the Tribune. Former Blackhawks beat writer Chris Kuc, is going to be on the White Sox beat.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 01:05 PM) Finally over. The tank season couldn't have happened without his contributions but maaaaaaaan was it hard to watch The incredible thing was he was really good for a little while, then was about as bad as can be for about as long as you will ever see on a major league team before he got the boot. Even tanking teams pull the plug a little faster.
  19. Baseball-wise, it made no sense to keep throwing him out there except to help the team lose, and I don't think they consciously want to do that, even though at this point, it probably is the better option. Although Covey is the same thing, with Beck. Fry probaby will be a gas can. Holberg will start, go 3 or 4 innings .... Give Holland a extra month off, and maybe someone gives him a chance next year.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 12:29 PM) Even Trump, the man you support, knows the wall is asinine and would be ineffective. He just wants it for ego purposes. He can talk about and admire the stupid wall. I wonder when Mexico is going to cut a check.
  21. His BABIP will go down when he changes his launch angle a bit and these liners go over the wall. It's already changed some. Yeah, he still swings at his share of bad pitches, but so do a lot of hitters. The guy is hitting .325, and was pretty decent the second half of last year as well. It amazes me how any little success with some players causes some to break out the baby oil, but with guys like Avi, a season and a half of not being this horrible player they pegged his as being, hasn't at least made them shift off their stance at least a little bit. There was upset the Sox gave him $3 million to play this year. Avi needs to change his name, then any past suckage will be forgotten.
  22. DePaul should be able to recruit a bit better. It's a decent school. They play in a decent conference. Their campus is nice in a big city, and now they will play in a new gym. It will never be like it was back in the day when they were on WGN and there were only a couple national broadcasts a week. But it should be better than it's been.
  23. Harvey has been a wonderful thing. A lot of happiness in Houston. Is he serious? Also they are already walking back is $1 million "donation" from his "personal" money. Maybe the Secretaty of State in Texas told him he would prefer prayers.
  24. Abreu out again. 20k Buehrle bobble heads was the giveaway last night. Not even 18k in attendance. I don't recall ever seeing that for a bobble head giveaway, but Labor Day weekend is always a tough draw for the White Sox. Many families go for a last summer fling.A few years ago, my cousin had a few patio party tickets on Laor Day weekend vs. Boston. There wee no more than 20 people total in the patio party area. Edit, Abreu now DHing.
