QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2017 -> 09:59 AM) The one thing that randomly popped into my head is a disconnect between the parties, If the Sox are getting all of this data that show Rodon is OK, and Rodon still feels like he is hurting maybe that is the what the disconnect is about? Honestly I have no idea. I mean I would imagine if something were seriously wrong, they would just shut him down and look at surgery. You gain nothing from making him throw through a serious injury, and the Sox have never struck me as that sort of organization. KW literally called Lorenzo Barcelo, the guy who was supposed to be the crown jewel in the white flag trade a p**** for complaining about pain, and they played the dance with him for a while. In the end, he required both elbow and shoulder surgery. There seems to be more wrong than the Sox had hoped here. I don't think the 60 day DL is a big deal because he wasn't going to be back before that was up anyway. But this has gone on way too long with what seems like a ton of super secrecy.

This reminds me of Mark Prior. Nothing was wrong until it was. If we ever hear about towel drills, look out.
-
I think actually hitting him or something by the head should be a requirement for a suspension. Fine him all you want, but this was low and behind him.
-
Let Moncada work on cutting down on Ks. No need to rush him except for our viewing enjoyment. Offensive numbers really don't mean a ton in Charlotte. Leury Garcia put up big numbers. So did Andy Wilkins, and the immortal Jason Coats.

Kahnle needs to be locked up ASAP as well. Buyout a couple of free agent years with him and Leury and Avi, and Narvaez. Who knew we were watching perennial all stars last year? Holland and Gonzo have shown they both are worthy of a 5 year deal. They are trade bait once Giolitto, Lopez, and Kopech come up to dominate. I was thinking extend Shields, but now it would be prudent to wait. Davidson has probably cost himself a few million the last week or so, but if he's willing to sign a team friendly deal along the lines Eaton signed for, wow. Hahn will have unreal talent, and a mountain of money to play with.
-
They actually threw out Isiaah Thomas when discussing Cam Payne. Other than the shooting and the passing, and the scoring, they may have a point. All Cam needs is to get into a little better shape. He's hardly played in 2 years.

Paxson: "Our young guys need a consistent role. That is what we are focused on moving forward." LMAO. So bring back Fred. You suck, sit out a week. So you have haven't played the last 5 games? You're starting tonight. And in Fred's defense, maybe if one of these young players took their opportunity and ran with it, it wouldn't be so inconsistent. But, no one did, and it was because they aren't good enough.
-
Paxson: "You can't underscore the impact Rajon had with our young guys." I saw young guys benched in the playoffs, or playing minimal, very inconsistent minutes. Plus his next quote is they don't seem to know what they have in their young guys. C'mon Pax, you at least used to be better than that. It's status quo at the UC. You want something to really happen, it will take about 10k cancellations of season tickets. Then Gar adds how they are setting their cap space up. Same s***, different year. Are Gar and Pax the only people not aware their young players aren't a championship quality group?

Looks like they love their roster. Just need some development. For the love of God, get rid of these clowns.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 11:21 PM) Sneaky Pete is real, real solid. Only thing I watch on Amazon. On Amazon, Goliath is good. Billy Bob Thornton won a Golden Globe. I also get into Bosch on a rainy day.

Dioner Navarro was pretty bad too. I may start a thread.

White Sox Option Jacob May, recall Willy Garcia

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 2, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) I am by no means making a direct comparison here, but Johan Santana was a Rule 5 pick who put up an ERA of 6.49 in 2000. Yeah, that was during the steroid era and runs were up like crazy (for comparison's sake, Santana bookended his career with an ERA- of 129, but that was 6.49 in 2000 and 4.85 in 2012). All the same, this logic is correct. If you feel that Covey can contribute to your team in 2018 and beyond, you absolutely let him stick on the roster in some capacity moving forward. Exactly. The reason guys are even available in the rule 5 is because they need more minor league work. To think Covey could be league average this year would be crazy talk. If that were remotely probable, Oakland would have been foolish to expose him. As you said, he was drafted with 2018, or even later in mind. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ May 2, 2017 -> 01:55 PM) I think this is the best way to approach it. Cost controlled pitching is the prime asset in MLB. As stated before it's how they coach them to pitch that is key. Young pitching as a group will have less injury issues than old pitchers. I don't think I've ever heard anyone in baseball say having to much young MLB pitching is an issue. You don't but you also don't have too much young hitting. It seems every team that wants Q won't give up their best position prospect, and that is for an established pretty cheap guy signed for a while. The Sox have to get some hitters. I think the draft pitchers, trade for pitchers, you can trade for hitters later, doesn't work. At this moment, they have plenty of pitching prospects. They have to work on run scoring.

Spicer says Trump stands by his claim that Obama is evil. That should endear him to his base, and pretty much every republican. How can a republican not be concerned when reading these transcripts? There is obviously something wrong. He's all over the place, makes no sense, and seems to have a hard time putting a sentence together.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 1, 2017 -> 03:13 PM) I absolutely think Pace had more information than I do, which is why I said: "If people were offering fair value for the Bears pick, I would have traded down and taken the 2 1sts, 2 2nds, plus." Thats just personal opinion though. After reading Ptatc's comment above, I think the deal more had to do with what time Pace thought he had left. If he thinks he has at most a 2 year leash, he cant stockpile picks for next year because hell be gone by the time they produce. I don't know if trading the picks was right or wrong. We will find out later. Obviously SF just as desperate for a QB thought accumulation was key. Maybe Pace thought he was farther along. If they could somehow stay reasonably healthy, plus they did sign a lot of free agents, maybe he felt he didn't need 10 more players. Maybe this was their best chance at a game changing QB. We will know in a couple of years. We might not know until Pace is somewhere else. It is surprising how slammed he's getting, not by fans, but by even the so called "experts". It was an overpay, but not that much of one, he got many of the same picks back moving down several places in round 2, and one of the guys slamming him had Trubisky going #1 in his final mock. If it was me, I would have gone the accumulation route, picked up one of the lesser thought of QBs later, and thought about a top of the line QB next draft. But you have to admire his stones. He's all in with Trubisky.
-
The Bears knew what they could get for the #3 pick, so they should have had some idea what it would cost for #2. Unless you really think Ryan Pace is a total idiot, he had more information than anyone on this, and he paid what he had to pay to secure Trubisky.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 1, 2017 -> 02:25 PM) This. Absolutely 100% true. The one thing in the back of my head is the Bears being at #3 had to have heard from almost all of the same teams at 3, as SF did at 2. Maybe it was those calls that convinced the Bears that someone really wanted the QB. I can't imagine they would just make it up out of no where. Especially because it seemed the Bears picking a QB surprised everyone. The Bears made it seem like they wanted to move down, so they knew who exactly was looking to move up to draft the QB. People might not have liked the pick, or the amount Pace paid to move up. But thinking they were bidding against themselves and no one was looking to move up is ignoring a lot. No one thought the Bears would draft a QB, therefore, they knew just about every team that was looking to move up to draft one.
-
Of course there were other teams. The Bears were getting the same calls. It's amazing people think the Bears would be fielding calls about moving up, saying no, and these wouldn't even bother with the 49ers, or that Pace is so dumb, no one was calling him to move up but he thought everyone was calling SF. If you want to make a big deal about moving up 1 spot isn't a big deal, you can't have it both ways. If teams were interested in moving up to 3, they probably were interested in moving up to 2.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:52 AM) It all depends on who/what you believe. Rapaport was just on the Score and said there was absolutely another team pushing the 49ers for their pick, King says the Bears got played. According to the value chart, the Bears didnt overpay, and it was on par with what the Eagles gave up for Wentz(who threw 9 more college passes than Trubisky), but some people think the value chart is more of a guide and not really a bible. Everyone has said it, Trubisky is Pace's horse, we just have to see if he was worth it. I tend to believe there were other teams interested. The Bears had to be fielding calls about their pick.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:48 AM) Right by Schaller's pump and the park over there. Anywhere. Shinnocks. Cork and Kerry. Just stop in for a beer or some food and ask them for a parking pass. You then are golden.

If you know what you are doing, you can park on the street for free.

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:23 AM) Definitely a side effect of his relative inexperience in the sport. Something I fully expect to improve. I have no problem the broadcaster defers to the ex player for baseball questions. I don't think Jason will ever be comfortable with the why or hows baseball-wise on his own if he has an ex player color man, and that's fine.
-
Harry Caray didn't know where he was at the last 10 years of his career, yet he wasn't hated. I would say as far as eyesight and actually seeing what was happening, Chip Caray was a better broadcaster than his grandfather, but that's not all that is involved. I would have much rahter listened to Harry. You are watching the game, if they get the name wrong or the ball is somewhere the broadcaster can't see, if you can complain about it, you really didn't need someone to tell you where it was. I will take all the you can put it on the boards and he gones I can get. I know time is running out. I went to Yankee Stadium many years ago, and Bob Sheppard was the almost 100 year old PA voice of Yankees Stadium. He had Jose Valentin batting 3 times in a row. Who cares, it was cool to hear him. I like Jason(he also has eyesight issues BTW) . His time is coming. But Hawk has more than earned the right to finish on his terms.
-
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:05 AM) Agreed. Fans deserve better than "Well, he's old so we're keeping him around even though he's out of touch and the game has left him behind". He's not out of touch with the game. Steve Stone sounds like Hawk's parrot when he is with Jason.
-
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 1, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) Then. Go. Home. Nobody is forcing him to call games. He's a selfish old man, that's basically the takeaway from your post, which I guess was trying to defend him. No, he wants the 8 decades. There aren't a lot of people who would rather be at their job than someplace else. Maybe even you would rather be someplace else when you are at work. I guess in your world, that makes you selfish. He appreciates his job, but maybe his mind isn't as into it. He knows he can't sell this team as a contender, especially to himself. But he wants to hang on. I think the broadcast is fine. I know you disagree, and b**** about his eyesight, yet say nothing when Jason acts like a guy just hit a 450 home run that falls about 80 feet short of the wall. For me, when I watch a game, I can see what's going on. Every little mistake doesn't bother me, but then again, I don't have a problem with people because of their age.
