  1. QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ May 20, 2017 -> 11:11 AM) Bingo. The Sox are gonna come away with a whole lot of nothing in the intl free agent class if they miss out on Robert. They will have to scramble to sign some marginal guys and will appear desperate. Teams that ignore the intl market or completely bungle it year after year have no realistic chance of building a legit contender. BS. You are talking one year and a $4.25 million pool. They still probably have 300k guys, and maybe another interesting player or 2 will emerge, and they would have everything to play with. If Robert is anywhere near what he is cracked up to be, it is definitely worth passing on giving a couple of 16 year olds seven figures, who, if all goes well, won't help you for 6 or 7 years anyway, to take a shot. Normally, they would have zero chance at a guy like this.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2017 -> 10:47 AM) How many other teams in the past have completely blown off the J2 signing period? I honestly don't know. They probably have some 300k guys lined up. They only sign one or 2 more than that anyway. They have $4.25 million to spend. Not exactly a ton.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2017 -> 10:41 AM) I never blamed JR for this. If anything, it would be a failure by Hahn putting all the eggs in one basket and possibly not comprehending how desperate Cards would be. I don't think I would pay 30 mil (60) for him. So he shouldn"t have taken a shot at him? For a guy who feels that way, your posts say something far different.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2017 -> 10:37 AM) Matter of semantics but isn't this the same thing? Not at all. He assumed by significant it meant higher. Maybe it was higher, maybe not. Then someone said the White Sox made a phenomenal offer. How come JR is cheap? How much would you pay for him? The guy might have decent sources but he got played by a fake DM.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2017 -> 10:30 AM) - McGuffey says Cards offer more - someone remarks gut tells him money wins out - McGuffey says gut is probably right How does that not show that McGuffey thinks the Cards get him He never said that. He said it was his understanding that they did.
  6. QUOTE (turnin' two @ May 20, 2017 -> 10:15 AM) He did not say that. He said the Card's offer is significant. He says nothing about the Sox offer, but two lines down, Jon Greenberg say the Sox offer is "phenomenal". So you are left to read between "significant" and "phenomenal" from two different guys. People read what they want to read. It is no surprise GreenSox wants STL to sign him so he can spend the next few years b****ing about it. He lost the ability to b**** about trading for Kahnle.
  7. Sale tied his record of 8 straight starts with at least 10 strikeouts he got a ND. He is averaging 109 pitches a start.
  8. Then these teams need to go out and sign an ace. Over the next 3 3/4 seasons, Q is owed around $36 million at this point. During the same time they could get a real ace like David Price, who the Red Sox have already paid more than Q is owed, and over the next 3 3/4 seasons he is owed another $115 million. Plus you will have to pay him for the declining years even more.
  9. Q was sweet. He is getting back to Q numbers. If he didn't have that bad inning vs. SD of all teams, his ERA would be 3.47. Within .03 of his career. Of all the starters available, he is the one guy you can be pretty sure of what you are getting.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 20, 2017 -> 03:41 AM) No rebuttal from me. Between the eastern conference (owners, gms, players, etc) being just incompetent to KD being a trick p**** beta has put the nba in a world of hurt from a competitive standpoint. But what a time to be alive.
  11. So Jared and Flynn have a secret meeting wih a Russian banker who happened to finance Trump's building in Toronto. I guess Trump had no idea they met, and had no idea what they discussed. All the communication between Russia and Trump's campaign, and no one is talking about the time Trump looked into the camera and asked Russia to hack into Hillary's emails when he became unglued. And guess who hacked into Hillary's emails? New reports now say Trump says he should never have fired Flynn. I think he is a bit worried he may sing.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 19, 2017 -> 04:15 PM) Lost amid the chaos today is the administration announcing that they're intentionally destroying the exchanges and millions of Americans health insurance with it. That is exactly what everyone should have expected. They certainly weren't going to do anything to make it do anything but fail. Murderers really.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2017 -> 03:25 PM) Outside of their run in the 90's the Indians are one of the worst drawing teams in baseball history. There was about a ten year outlier period, but outside of that, this is closer to historical norms. Yes, but previous history was at perhaps the worst ballpark in MLB history.
  14. Not the Kush. I wonder if Ivanka will take the kids to prison to visit daddy. Putin went to Jared is all over twitter now. LMAO
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 19, 2017 -> 03:07 PM) Trump's nominee for #2 at Treasury just bowed out citing "family reasons." Trump still has 452 Executive Branch positions with no nominee named. Who would want to attach themselves to this dumpster fire at this point? He doesn't have time to nominate anyone, he's making great deals while he's watching Fox News and golfing. I really am surprised he goes after CNN so much. Everytime I go to our break room for some water, the TV is on CNN and the headline below almost always has Trump in it somewhere.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 19, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) He's going to be a good player. Easily one of the worst trades in Sox history to this point, especially if they get outbid for Robert He is going to have to be a pretty decent major leaguer to be one of the worst trades in team history. A ball now, that's a long way away. , and Erik Johnson put up an ERA a bit over 9.00 for them last year before having surgery.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 19, 2017 -> 02:41 PM) Elijah Cummings: Either Pence is lying or was 'running a sloppy shop' What did the Vice President know, and when did he know it? That's right, either way he's wrong. If he knew, WTF? If he didn't know, why the f*** not? Maybe former President Bannon kept him out of the loop.
  18. QUOTE (FT35 @ May 19, 2017 -> 01:33 PM) It IS very odd. Although like someone else said...it's tough to compete with a LeBron-led NBA playoff championship-caliber product this time of year. The years before LeBron came back were tough teams to sell tickets for, but the recent years the Indians started to get good again--LeBron was somewhat of a factor. Be interesting to see their attendance numbers after the all-star break when LeBron is rocking his tribe hat in a luxury suite and the the MLB post-season push comes back. In 2013 they won 92 games and made the WC. Lebron was in Miami. The Indians drew more than 100,000 less than the White Sox lowest total this century, and every couple of months we read on this site how the White Sox have to move. It is the risk of getting very bad. The fans find something else to do, and they don't come back.
  19. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 19, 2017 -> 01:21 PM) But you know that a team like the Cavs would get a good pick and then you've just compounded the problem. I don't like the wheel idea because you could get screwed on a s***ty draft year. At least now that s***ty draft year for the bad team means that the following year they have another shot at it because they'll be bad. In the wheel scenario you're stuck waiting another 6 seasons before you have a shot at really good talent. Maybe do a lottery for the first 4 or 5 picks, then go in order of horridness. And leave the 4 conference finalists or the 8 conference semi-finalists out of it. It might keep teams from totally tanking. You'll never get rid of all of it. Cuban said once they were eliminated, they wanted to lose as much as possible. I understand it, but there is something fundamentally wrong with it. You're basically legally throwing games.
  20. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 19, 2017 -> 01:02 PM) You know who says this? Everyone but the NBA. The NBA is just fine being top heavy. They always have been. Come playoff time, when the real money from TV is made, they get monster ratings from having Cavs v. Warriors part 3 instead of Blazers v. Bucks. I think the NBA would like the real s*** franchises (Sacramento, Minnesota, Orlando, Phoenix, etc) to occasionally be good and make it to the playoffs so that their fanbases stay engaged, but if there's only a handful of teams with legitimate shots at the title, they're fine with that too. I wish something was done to motivate teams to win, and give the teams like the Bulls, the NBA hell guys, some sort of shot even with GarPax calling the shots. Of course I probably didn't feel that way when the Bulls were picking top 3 every year. What would really be interesting if they made the lottery open to all teams with the same odds, 1st round draft pick trades would probably go way down unless the guy was an absolute star.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 19, 2017 -> 11:25 AM) It's funny how the Reds pitching staff can so easily cure what ails a struggling baseball club. In other news, A 42-year old Wheaton man died after falling over a railing at Wrigley http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2017/05/18/aut...-wrigley-field/ That is sad. I'm thinking he had to be trashed. If you fell, the first thing you would do is try to make sure you didn't land head first and there should be time to accomplish that. He apparently landed on his head.
  22. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ May 19, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) By keeping Jimmy and Wade staying, we're locked in for that 15-18th pick for the next couple years. With no decent pick in draft, no competent FO to get the most trade value out of Jimmy, Bulls are stuck in this purgatory for at least the next 5 years or so. Unless we sign Blake Griffin and a competent PG this summer, this team will not change its fortune. And if Wade comes back, unless Griffin wants to play for the Bulls at an exception not going to happen. The Bulls decided 8th seeds are fun.
  23. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 19, 2017 -> 11:48 AM) Have something to do with another Cleveland team going far into the playoffs and possibly weather? This is a team that had some 500 + game sellout streak, then they sucked and even though they have had several good teams since, never recovered attendance-wise.
  24. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 19, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) I do remember that he, Jacque Jones and one other African-American player said when they were on the Cubs they were the target of racial slurs from out of the Wrigley bleachers / stands. Somewhere, Curt Schilling was and is calling BS.
  25. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ May 19, 2017 -> 08:43 AM) Cooper 6 IP 1ER 7 Hits, 2 Walks 4 Ks. good start. FIP will go up though. May walked 4 times Lassiter 4/4 with a HR Booker 2/4 with 2 doubles. Yes. Next time anyone wants to possibly think a hot week or two in AAA merits promotion, remember this: Jacob May .339/.422/.452 Jacob May White Sox .056/.150/.056
