  1. He doesn't have time to golf. He sits in the White House making great deals. We will all be sick of winning pretty soon.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 1, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) I actually like all of the picks. They didn't have enough of them though which happens when you trade up for a QB. They did sign 3 UDFA's that could make the team though. I don't understand the national narrative that says Pace will get fired though. He had a great draft last year. Taking the QB this high buys him more time. Pace absolutely gets a 2nd head coach while in Chicago. If Trubisky is terrible, Pace will end up getting fired but we are like 3-4 years from that IMO. The QB could buy him time, while dooming Fox. But if they are 3-13 again, and the division 2 guys don't look like pieces moving forward, he's in a lot of trouble. The roster is becoming almost all his. They have to show some major improvement, even though they can still do that and suck.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 1, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) Literally was about to say that. Yes, I think his passion is starting to wane. He knows the Sox aren't going to win anything, and he's gone from dying in the booth to working half the games, to maybe being an ambassador. Being home with his family seems to have grown in importance to him. IMO, watching the White Sox doesn't have the appeal it used to have to him. He would rather watch his grandson play little league than Avi Garcia chase down a flyball. Plus he probably realizes father time is catching up. If it weren't for this 8 decades thing, which is an accomplishment, I bet he would be done right now. He's even said when players ask him for his opinion on their swing, etc. , he passes now.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ May 1, 2017 -> 09:25 AM) I don't like how they invited Glennon to their official draft party though if they knew Trubisky was such a possibility. Yeah, that was not a good look. But Glennon is the still the starter, and who knows, he may ultimately still be the best QB on the roster.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ May 1, 2017 -> 09:13 AM) You know, all that says to me is the majority of the beating the Bears are taking is over signing Glennon. I hate Glennon because I think he'll just be Ryan Mallet or Matt Flynn pt infinity, but part of this is the NFL constantly being shocked at what quarterbacks make. At the very least, it allows the Bears not to rush Trubisky. They weren't going to win anything anyway in 2017. Free agency was quantity not quality. They are playing for 2018, and probably at least one of Pace/Fox won't be there, maybe both.
  6. Something interesting, Jacob May, I agree, has no business being on a major league roster, but has anyone checked out Trayce Thompson? After an 0-8 with 3 ks with the Dodgers, he is 1-43 with 19 ks in AAA. Looks like the Sox sold high there.
  7. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 1, 2017 -> 08:22 AM) Drafts grades a day after the draft are pointless. That being said, that Bears draft looks awful. He pretty much gambled on every pick. He could get lucky with Trubisky, but I don't think Pace knows what he is doing. It does look awful, for sure, but then you realize you are comparing it to Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr. If the Bears picked the best player available on their board, it would be considered a great draft. They both know a lot more about these guys than I do, and know a lot more about them then most, but if they were can't miss gurus, they wouldn't be working for ESPN. Still, when you are drafting 3, and only take 2 guys really the majority of people ever have seen play, it is going to be dissappointing. Pace has his neck on the line. You have to like the boldness, even if you don't agree with the trades or the picks. He isn't just risking his job with this draft, he is risking his future as an executive. If it truly is as bad as many think, he's done. He's a scout at best. If he has a QB that the Bears can ride to multiple playoffs, a division 2 Gronk, a Darren Sproles Jr., and a safety whose leg has healed and was a steal in round 4, you will have to give him the benefit of any doubt for a long while. He'll be the new Theo.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 1, 2017 -> 08:25 AM) Agreed 100%. He just took a bad step on the base. Exactly. I've seen people injure themselves just walking down the street. It's too bad. I hope he can fully recover. Some do, some don't. Obviously knee surgery has come a long way the last 20 years, but you never know. Some guys continue to have problems. We do know he will work his ass off to get back to normal.
  9. Pete Rose ran out everything, including walks and he didn't get hurt. It's a fluke. To think you are a greater injury chance playing hard than not is silly. He has run out thousands of these. He went down on one. It could happen to a guy jogging to first base as well. Don't hustle, take games off. It's the new way. I wonder how the players who didn't take games off and hustled all the time ever made it. The weird part is it almost is the exact opposite pitching. The speed gun and k-rate are almost all that matters. Max effort almost every pitch.
  10. He gets excited, people complain. He tones it down, people complain.
  11. We know he is capable of being good, he has just gotten back to some bad habits, one handed plays, throwing off one foot when it isn't necessary...he will put in the time to correct it. This is what young players, u less they are superstars do. Eventually, they all struggle, and his defense was so much better than advertised, he may have either slacked a bit with it, or wanted everything to always look spectacular He has been overall awful defensively, but has made many spectacular plays. IMO, he just needs to get back to basics, and not try to do too much. Make simple plays look simple.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 29, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) My guess is Jennings will regress and it will be kinda painful since he is our only lefty. He has been pretty solid for a long time but you are probably right. He is going to run out of gas at some point. And for some perspective, Jennings peripherals have been pretty much the same his entire career, and Miami got Andre Rienzo for him. I wouldn't think his value is any better now.
  13. Jones and Robertson you might get something decent back. The other guys, even if they keep this up for a while don't have the track record IMO where a team will give up a significant prospect for them even if desperate.
  14. Looks like the Bears made a trade with Arizona.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 02:25 PM) So if Obama's been such a failure for so long (according to Trump) and he did the same thing the Obama administration did, wouldn't that mean that Trump also failed? Logically, yes, but in Trump's world he has done nothing wrong ever.
  16. Barry Obama is starting to get a little frisky. He just mentioned that according to the polls, Obamacare is more popular than Trump. I don't know if he's right but a lot of people have been saying he is.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 01:39 PM) It's always someone else's fault with him. Why don't they press him on his comment that Flynn, much like Bill O'Reilly later, did nothing wrong.
  18. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 10:49 AM) Because in general that statement can be true for just about any pick or any trade. To me it's just a lazy statement to try and get your point across. And like I said I'm not a Bears fan so I personally don't care either way, I just don't like that kind of logic. Of course it can, but in the end, all that matters is how they perfom from now on, not by what they were projected to do or where they were "supposed" to get picked. When the Bears drafted Kyle Long, there was a ton of b****ing and moaning about value. Well, they were right. No one has ever mentioned value with that pick since. If they are right here, nobody cares. If they are wrong, it will cost Pace a career.
  19. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 08:00 AM) I love it. Trubisky wasn't my top QB but Pace put his nuts on the table. I wanted them to have conviction and take the QB that they liked best. This is where franchise QB's are taken. They were getting offers for the 3rd pick for a QB, so they jumped up a spot and got him. They'll recoup picks tonight but that's not the point. He isn't being safe. I loved his comments last night at the press conference about being aggressive. In order to win consistently you need a long-term answer at QB. If Trubisky hits, nobody will care what the cost was. If it doesn't, Pace will probably get fired. It definitely buys him some time though. Personally, I'm glad he had the balls to do it. I agree with this. If Trubisky is what Pace hopes, Pace is an NFL GM until he doesn't want to be an NFL GM. If Trubisky blows, he'll be back to being a scout with no chance of ever being an NFL GM again in no time. The moment of truth. I just hope he's right. People loved his draft last year, so instead of complaining about the massive price and the big question mark with the lack of experience, I am willing to wait. I figure no matter who he took, and I was hoping Adams, they were at best a 7-9 team in 2017. So let the new QB develop for a year, and Ryan Pace is on the clock in 2018. He's either a genius or an idiot, all on this move.
  20. This team will suck soon enough. Might as well enjoy the winning while it's here.
  21. The dragged man has already settled. So no way $100 million, but I bet it was for 7 figures.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 08:59 PM) This is why the Sox should have tried it without a clown like Robin managing. We would have never had to rebuild. We had some decent teams on paper in the Robin era and sucked. This team's roster is a joke and the Sox are playing good baseball because we have a good manager to go with Coop. If they go 12-1 the next 13, they will be right on pace with last year's team.
  23. Looks like they will be tied for 1st place after tonight.
