Should have traded when you could. Now we are stuck with him. He really has only had 2 bad innings. He pitched well last Sunday but the Sox scored 1 run. He was awful in the first yesterday but pitched decently after that and wasn't going to win anyway since the Sox could only muster 1 hit. Despite some big performances the Sox offense has been mostly brutal. They have a game they scored 11, one they scored 10, and have averaged 2 runs a game in the others. It looking around the league there are a ton of players with crazy awful offensive numbers. I think Q had a different routine this spring and peaked for the WBC, and it will take him a bit to get back to normal.

One thing to keep in mind, just because something is in small print on a ticket doesn't necessarily mean it is legally enforceable.

Hahn needs to sign Avi to an extension buying out a couple free agent years. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 01:38 PM) That bomb to blow up a handful of ISIS guys cost $16m but remember there's no money in this country for meals on wheels It's all part of Trump's brilliant plan to quickly destroy ISIS. He knows way more than any General. He's like really smart. He went to Wharton you know.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 10:59 PM) Heading to Monte Carlo/France/Switzerland in a few weeks. How do you guys feel about accessing currency? Best to get money to leaving the states? In Europe? At European ATMs? What about setting up phones, credit cards, etc? Any advice? You'll get the best rate at an ATM. Also use credit for as much as you can. Besides, Switzerland is ridiculously expensive. My brother lives in Zurich. You will laugh at what things cost.

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 10:49 AM) Chicago White Sox @whitesox Prior to tonight’s game, the #WhiteSox placed Geovany Soto on the 10-day DL and purchased the contract of Kevan Smith from Charlotte. Too bad. Geo can't make it through a season without the DL. Hopefully he recovers soon, or Kevan Smith breaks out.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) By the same token, should we sign Avisail Garcia to a huge extension? He is contending for the first 400 season since the 40s or something. Get it done Hahn. I said that in the gamethread. Davidson has struck out 7 freaking times. There's a pretty great chance the clock will strike midnight pretty soon with him.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 10:41 AM) Guys it's 4/13 and the White Sox have played 7 games. Todd Frazier has played 6. Todd frazier has played SIX GAMES. And he had an abbreviated spring training, and he homered and double his last game, and has been hitting the ball pretty well the last few games. Could easily have had 2 or 3 more hits.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 10:38 AM) Just to stir the rumor cauldron, you think it's possible the Sox cut bait with Frazier and give 3B to Davidson? Frazier doesn't really have value at the moment and he hasn't looked good at the plate. At this point ( can't believe I'm saying this), Davidson just might be more productive now and in the near future than Frazier. We know there's no future with Frazier but there is the slight possibility of Davidson having a future with the rebuilding Sox. Not the I'm holding my breath. C'mon man.

He's throwing strikes. When he is doing that and ahead in the count, he is close to unhittable. -

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 08:04 PM) Robertson on back to back outings is usually trash. We'll see. You really should look up numbers at Baseball Reference. You're wrong again. -

Davidson has only 1 AB this year where he didn't get a walk, a hit or strikeout. -

QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 05:54 PM) RE: Username, I read fangraphs religiously. That was one of the reasons why I was high on Anderson going into this season. I should have said that he sucks right now. He looks lost. As I am typing this, Anderson gets a hit. No, I didn't play baseball past 4th grade because I have some physical coordination issues that make it impossible to play such a game. I love sports, but I can't play because my hand-eye coordination is so bad due to the disability I have. I absolutely would have loved to have been an athlete as a kid, it just wasn't in the cards for me. Also keep in mind this guy did just sign a life altering contract. It may be wreaking havoc on his ABs trying to earn every penny each time. We will see. There definitely are red flags with him, but there also is a lot of talent. It is way too soon this season to form an opinion. -

QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 05:41 PM) This is different, because bad stretches involve bad luck. When a hitter strikes out 33% of ABs in with no walks, in a 7 game stretch, it is more than a "bad stretch" it is being bad at hitting a baseball. Sure, he has 4 hits but until Anderson starts hitting it hard with more consistency, and making more contact, I am going to assume that he sucks. Hasn't your argument been that prospects are suspects until proven otherwise? I'm taking that approach. Yes, I wanted the rebuild but I'm not afraid to call a spade a spade. No they don't. Swings go awry, guys look awful. There isn't one player on the White Sox that won"t look horrible for at least a week this year. Prospects are suspects, but labeling after not even 7 games is ridiculous. Most young guys struggle a lot at some point. -

Leury getting hit was huge, he is a career .138 hitter with runners on. -

QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 05:31 PM) It is more the K% and lack of BBs. Also, I've been watching the games. Have you? Lots of swings and misses on stuff in the zone and out of the zone. Dude just seems lucky when he makes contact. Granted, it is very early but if the trends continue how can we argue that Anderson sucks? We have 3 years of evidence that Avi does, in fact, suck. Yes, but I realize guys go through bad stretches. -

Well if Anderson can be a bust 1 inning into the 7th game, Avi must be an MVP candidate. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) If the Sox were sold tomorrow would they really get 1.35 billion for the team? I just can't imagine a baseball team regarded as one of the worst franchises (compared to the elitist Cubs who own the Second City) in the sport and a so-so stadium being worth that kind of money. I mean, if Jerry and the partners sold tomorrow would they get that kind of money for the team? If so wouldn't it be a no brainer to sell with TV contracts in question in the future (demise of ESPN, etc)? I'd think it's time to sell, sell sell if you are an owner of a sports franchise. It's sort of a sleeping giant IMO. People are starting to be priced out of Wrigley Field. If the Cubs get their own station, some more will be priced of even watching on television. They will never be the Cubs, but they could close the gap in popularity. If the White Sox start winning, things could pick up quickly thanks to the Cubs. They have made more Chicago area people interested in baseball.

If your dad was JR, and you were going to inherit control of these teams, would you sell? I would say at best maybe, but let's see what I could do for a few years. I worked with a guy that did a lot of business with Michael Reinsdorf, and as of several years ago, selling the White Sox would be the last thing he would consider if what he told me was true, and he hasn't changed his mind. I would guess the biggest factor might be the state of the team when JR goes.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) Why is Cleveland starting both of these night games an hour early? People freak out about the cold in April especialy at night . Maybe they are trying to start it earlier but make it so people can still work if not a full day, close. That's the only thing I can think of. If it's a sunny evening in Cleveland, it's going to probably be hard to hit. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 11:39 AM) When did I call him immortal? I sense an edginess that I don't really find warranted. All I am saying is if you go back and read Keith Law when KW was in charge, (and I am not exactly a KW fan myself) there is no way you can come to a conclusion he was a neutral observer. I think it has changed a bit since Hahn has taken over, but there still seems to be something there. I think his ranking of Tatis was based on it. I really think the guy has a problem with KW, whatever it is and that has influenced a lot of thinking regarding White Sox prospects over the years. At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter what anyone thinks. It's how they perform. Law's writing is for entertainment purposes only. It would be interesting to see of MLB, BA, BP, Law, and the others, whose rankings actually have been most accurate. It's probably too hard to measure.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 11:35 AM) And Laumann thought Courtney Hawkins was better than Corey Seager. It's weird, almost like amateur players sometimes fail and succeed in a way that is difficult to predict. He was calling on Sale to fail when he was succeeding. Way, way, way off. It's one thing to say a guy has potential (Hawkins) to be great, has a ton of tools, and they fail. Just look what he wrote about Sale's slider. He said it sucked, and always will suck. His ceiling for Sale's slider, turned out to be way lower than the actual floor.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 11:22 AM) He did. He said it before he was drafted too though. It wasn't like he loved Chris Sale and then changed his mind after the Sox drafted him. That's how people act. He also said it after he had been successful in the major leagues. Good thing Bauman was handling that draft for the White Sox and not the immortal Keith Law.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 08:22 AM) Keith Law updated his top 50. Basically didn't move any players around from his top 100 but he took out guys that have graduated from prospect status like Swanson, Bell, Benintendi etc: http://www.espn.com/blog/keith-law/insider/post?id=6988 #5 Michael Kopech Best upside of any starter in high minors Potential for 3 plus pitches #1 starter build and delivery that works Command and secondary offerings not major league ready Struck out 10/18 batters in AA debut Top 5 starter in baseball upside #11 Lucas Giolito Up and down showing in spring training Working on restoring old delivery Low 90's 2 seamer more and mid 90's 4 seamer less Transition could mean more AAA time #13 Yoan Moncada White Sox bumped Moncada to AAA even though he came into year with just 53 games above A ball Doing what he usually does, making hard contact when he makes contact and striking out more than you'd like Playing 2B full time again. Law gets criticized by Sox fans because he doesn't think Lopez and Fulmer are starters and he's the low man in the industry on Moncada. He's the high man on Kopech though and still believes in Giolito when many don't. But yes, he hates the Sox. Law was down on the White Sox when KW was in charge. Just look at all his ridiculousness regarding Chris Sale. Even when it was clear he was wrong, he didn't budge for another year or 2. I don't see much if any bias now, but for a while there, he definitely had a chip on his shoulder regarding the White Sox. It didn't help that most of their prospects did suck, but the ones that didn't, he was down on them all.
