MLB investigating Padres for hiding health info

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 03:28 PM) Kyle Glaser @KyleAGlaser Someone in the know told me this is serious enough A.J. Preller, Mike Dee may be forced out by MLB office. We'll see http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/17554327/san-diego-padres-face-discipline-hiding-players-medical-information-mlb-database …://http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/...-mlb-database …://http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/...-mlb-database … 0 retweets 4 likes If what is being reported is true, that would be the first appropriate action. -
MLB investigating Padres for hiding health info
Dick Allen replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Didn't the Sox say Aaron Rowand played a part in the acquisition? Wouldn't he know if Shields was taking advil and doing stuff for his back? There is no doubt some buyer's remorse here, but on the other hand, the Padres apparently not playing straight with everyone, to me, should be a huge penalty. Not unlike the hacking case. Deliberately holding out information for better trades is something that should make heads roll and the team to take a huge hit either player-wise or financially with every team they exchanged players. If it is true someone ordered 2 sets of files, whoever ordered it should be in their finals days employed by a major league team. -
As much as I doubt everything being revealed about Shields would have made the White Sox walk away (he is making his 30th start today) , they might as well pursue this either for a total out, or some sort of compensation. I never knew this database existed. It's pretty cool as long as teams are being straight.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 12:52 PM) Anyone else a little surprised to see Sanchez at 3B lately? Before when he and Saladino would play, it was Saladino at 3B and Sanchez at 2B. Trying to see if Sanchez can handle the whole infield incase they make a deal in the off-season (Lawrie or Frazier)? I'm sure if Saladino would have been playing primarily 3B, Sanchez would be at 2B. Add the probability that Lawrie is out the balance of the season and Saladino is now the regular 2B, it's no wonder that is why they are doing it this way.

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 07:50 AM) trivia: Saladino stole 33 out of 37 in 2015 combined AAA/Majors. I read last year he was in the top 4 or 5 in baseball being timed from 1st to 2nd. I haven't read anything this year. I think Hamilton, Dyson, and some other minor league type were the only players faster. He's a solid all around player. Not really eye popping. But valuable to have around.

QUOTE (balfanman @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 12:03 PM) I still do not understand why they place a scheduled day off the day after opening day. It makes much more sense to me to schedule the first series on 3 straight days and have the day off for both teams on Thursday. That way if any of the 3 games have to be cancelled you can make it up on Thursday. The way they do it only covers bad weather on opening day. It happens fairly often where the day they schedule off is a "playable" day weather wise and one of the other days is messed up. It would increase the chances of getting the first series in and reduce schedule problems later if they simply placed the off day on Thursday. People pay up and Opening Day is usually a sellout or close. Game 2, not so much. It's something done to protect the people who bought tickets specifically for Opening Day.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) 1990 was also the last season in Comiskey Park, which had a lot to do with attendance. Ding, ding, ding. And both the 1990 season and 2000 season, the attendance was still only 9th in the AL.

QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 11:10 AM) That's the whole problem with your argument, your "if" statement. I will guarantee the Sox have a worse record next year if they trade Sale and start the rebuilding process this offseason. And if you don't think people come out to watch Chris Sale, then why were so many people upset and disappointed when Sale was a late scratch as a result of his suspension for ripping up the throwback jerseys? They should have been just as satisfied to watch Matt Albers start right? I think the Sox even won that game. And I guarantee, just like in 2012 when they got rid of Buehrle, even if they somehow in 1st place most of 2017, if they trade Sale, attendance will drop. It really isn't Sale alone per se, it is what trading him represents.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 08:28 AM) Lawrie's numbers aren't even that noticeably better- and Saladino has yet to have a full season starting and improved a lot in his second semi-season. I'd like to see Leury get work in September. He could really be the super sub ( OF and IF) if he could hit a little, which he finally did this season in AAA. Pitching is thinner out in Sep so numbers are inflated (just as they are for Sox starters who can suddenly hit) but it will give the team an idea. So you are saying Sox veterans are padding their stats against thinner September pitching (although playing contenders, I don't agree) but on the other hand have been whining about not playing these AAA players so you can see what you have. It really makes no sense.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 09:28 PM) And people are fooling themselves if they think Sox fans will stay home next season if they start playing winning baseball in Sale's absence. Fans like yourself aren't going to change your behavior in terms of how many games you typically attend no matter how the Sox play if and when Sale is gone. Imagine what's going to happen if they start winning. Do you even remember what that feels like? And Sox fans, after watching all of the excitement around the Cubs and how much fun their fans are having will heartily embrace the next Sox winning team. It's only human nature. Now to just get the team back to winning ways to prove this all out! Yes they will. It isn't necessarily Salle not being here anymore, it is what his absence signals which is a rebuild and really not much of a chance at winning a WS, which according to you is not an exciting season. You have already told us that. Winning 99 games in 1983, not exciting. Winning 96 games in 1990, not exciting. Winning di ions in 1993,2000, 2008not exciting. Being in first place most of the season in 2012, not exciting , and attendance drop.

QUOTE (Scoots @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 09:01 PM) That's hilarious...and gross lol. I would hate to be the guys that clean the park after tonight because you know at least a few of those 1000+ dogs are going to have an "accident" that isn't properly taken care of. They hire a service to clean up after the pups. I used to bring my late dog Maggs. He loved it, especially the parade around the field. He pissed on the tarp. O was so proud,

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 08:59 PM) Makes total sense. Sale leaving wouldn't impact your behavior as a Sox fan. The game and team always bigger than any one player. You are fooling yourself if you think that is typical.
-
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 08:27 PM) Not at all actually, thanks for asking. I'll go to the typical three games I make it to when I make my three typical visits to Chicago next summer. I can tell you that number won't be lower if Sale is, in fact, traded. Now how about you, Dick? More games next year or fewer if Sale is traded? Going to pull back on that season ticket package if they trade Sale? According to the thinking of some, that is pretty much the inevitable outcome. Probably around the same. I am not changing my package, they treat us like kings, and I love going to games.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 08:37 PM) We set the Guinness world record for dogs ar a sports events. But waiting for official number Does that include dogs on the roster?

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 08:17 PM) Not fewer? But what if Sale is traded? You said attendance will absolutely go down if he's not in a Sox uni next year, yet it's not going to change your behavior at all. A bit of a disconnect here, to say the least. I think we can conclude if you, a White Sox fan, won't go to fewer games than you did in this past brutal season if Sale is traded, neither will other Sox fans How will it differ for you? Remember, you can't tell if the season was exciting or not until after the World Series.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 08:18 PM) They drew 2.5 million in 2008. Enough of your 2008. No point to make there. They drew less than when they lost 90 games in 2007. You said WhiteSox fans come out for wins. Explain.
-
Not only that, but Whe you are playing a team in the race, you owe it to the league to play it to win, not see some AAA hack get some meaningless ABs.
-
People who have gone to White Sox home games have had a better chance of seeing their team win this year than all but 3 NL teams. So people who bail aren't basing it on games they attended.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 04:41 PM) You mean an ace Sale's age AND an ace with the type of team-friendly contract he has and the years left of control? Don't know if that example exists. Any old ace will do. The Sox fans want to trade,2 basically. All that, will do for you Thad, is even though they will do exactly what you want, it pretty much guarantees you a few more years of griping about Reinsdorf. Perfect for you
-
Can someone provide some examples of teams trading their ace and it translating to instant more success?

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 03:04 PM) 1990 and 2000 called and said "Hey, SS2K5! Check us out if you want to see how Sox fans respond, attendance-wise, to a new, young winning team! We will take your money any day of the week!" What did 2008 and 2012 call and say? And Sox fans love winners so much, in 2005, the year they never were not in first place, their attendance was almost league average. They had a 3 game home series in September that drew about 45k total. Nice.

QUOTE (shipps @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 09:22 AM) I have a cedar siding home and I have had a long running issue of birds pecking holes into the siding. It started on one side of the house. I patched it up and they came back leaving more holes for me to patch. I then put one of them toy hawks in the shrub to scare them away. That didnt really work because they still poked holes just not as frequently. Now they have graduated to the other side of the house and are putting holes there. I googled how to handle this issue but everything seems to be just using scare tactics which the birds dont seem to react to. Do any of you guys have any experience with this? What the hell can I do before they eat my house? Move.

So depending on the day, the White Sox either are not worthy of Chris Sale's services, or Sale is such an embarrassing hot head, he needs to be dealt away.
