QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 09:52 AM) Even if he could keep his bat going... can you trust his defense? Would you be comfortable with him at DH. I don't think so. No, you can't trust his defense. And really, you can't trust his offense, but there is always the possiblility he becomes a middle of the line up bat. It's against the odds, but if he did, there would be no sympathy for the White Sox for letting him walk. The thing with Avi is you watch him, you see him hit the ball hard, you see him come up big in the clutch, you see him run hard and fast to 1B just about every time. You see his huge boday. You hear the sound of the ball off his bat. You think the Sox really have something. Then you look at his barely .700, usually a little below OPS, and think, nevermind. He probably has a better shot at being someone who can hit after the start he has had than most, but I think they will let him go unless he goes Jose Abreu the next couple of weeks.

Avi in his last 35 games is .302/.344/.526. If he finishes the season strong, what happens next? Is he still a non tender?

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 08:31 AM) Maybe not exactly as greg said but go back a year or year and a half and you will see many here deriding Saladino much the same way Carlos Sanchez is now. Yes. In the offseason, the thought of Saladino at SS really upset a few. OTOH, he has been really hot lately, so he probably is a bit more popular at the moment than he should be. He's a valuable guy to have around though, for sure.
-
Saladino has played every position but catcher and pitcher this year. I did read last year, they were reluctant to use him in the OF due to his TJ surgery. Robin said yesterday he is more valuable moving around than playing one position.

QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 11, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) That's great, but Trump was at the same event, is older, and was fine. Again, the GOP has been pushing this narrative for months, it's garbage, but now they have a video to run the next 60 days. It's not good. The video is going to be a problem. I was at a Rush show in Rotterdam a few years ago, and my wife, who may be the healthiest person I know, collapsed during the encore. It looked just like when Hillary was dropping. I was scared to death. I thought she was dying. I grabbed her, and carried her out for help. We went into a room backstage. She was overheated and dehydrated, we were in general admission near the stage, and she is only 5'2". We always figured it was a lack of air as she was surrounded by taller people. But 10 minutes later she was fine, and there were never any other episodes. It looks a lot worse than it was. But with the narrative, this is one of the best things that could happen for Trump.

Don't know what was said, but apparently Dan Hampton blasted the Bears coaching staff after the game.

Sept 11th Game Thread: ChiSox vs. KC Specials

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 11, 2016 -> 01:33 PM) Shocked he's playing after jamming his wrist last night. He's a gamer, but it's idiotic of Robin to not give him a day off. Yrp. I am sure the medical staff didn't clear him, but to in doesn't care. Why is every player supposed to be treated like a p****? Treat hm like thy are made of glass, an they will be. Guys have o be able to play tired and in pain. -

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Sep 10, 2016 -> 07:07 PM) Why does one of our biggest run producers not know to NOT bunt in a RISP situation? Even though his RISP numbers suck this year that's no excuse. The 3B was playing way back. If he got it another step away from the mound he would have had an easy hit. -

Hosmer hits a pop up that goes 420 in the wind. 2-0. We can probably use some 420 with Shields on the mound and the wind howling straight out. -
They should just bag the National Anthem before sporting events. I think Blackhawks fans would be the only ones who missed it. When people watch a game on television and they televise the anthem (something they used to do all the time, now, unless it's a Blackhawks game, or celebrity at a playoff or all star game, never) do the people who are offended by this, get up off their couch during it?

Jon Heyman: Sox have little interest in moving Sale or Quintana
Dick Allen replied to Kyyle23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 9, 2016 -> 09:07 AM) Exactly. They need to acquire the future MVP candidate that is currently in the minors whoever that may be. They need to identify guys and they need to be right. Matt Davidson and Avi Garcia should be red flags in regards to anyone thinking these guys are better at identifying minor league talent. -
QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 02:44 PM) This multi-page voter fraud argument has me considering killing myself. Anyone have any suggestions on how to go about doing it? Pills and booze. Might as well go out with a real nice buzz.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 02:12 PM) So, apparently in New York State it is legal for one party to record another without the other's express permission. This is relevant today because as of last week we started hearing rumors that Gretchen Carlson had been taping comments by Roger Ailes and others for the last several years. Within a few days of the rumors that there were tapes, Fox News settled her sexual harassment claim for $20 million, along with several other claims by other women today, and issued a public apology. For the most part, people such as Sean Hannity who tweeted that she was a liar have yet to comment. What's very odd about this is usually cases are settled and the financial terms not disclosed. I am married to a Labor/Employment lawyer, and she thinks the $20 million figure is BS.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) That's just because Hosmer's defense has always been way overrated. He can pick it with the best of them, but that doesn't mean much when you have by far the worst range of any 1B. I was actually shocked reading about it. He's the Derek Jeter of 1B. Just watching him, he looks like a magician.

Jon Heyman: Sox have little interest in moving Sale or Quintana
Dick Allen replied to Kyyle23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 12:51 PM) I am not convinced there is a team willing or more likely able to give a major haul for Sale. I don't think Boston , New York or Dodgers will be willing to give up their core of young players now that all 3 are having solid 2nd halfs. I don't think Sale should be traded for prospects only. So I think in the end the Sox will not find a trade partner for Sale that will give them 4-5 MLB players/prospects in return. That's the problem. It's easy to say xxx is worth this, so a guy like Sale, cheaply signed for 3 years should be worth significantly more, but IMO, there is a limit a team will go to get Sale. You are going to have to decimate your system. Probably take a young player or 2 off your current roster. I used houses earlier as an example. The more expensive something is, the more exclusive the market. The teams that have what it takes to get him you could probably count on one hand. Those willing to give up what most of the public thinks is even fair value shrinks the total even more. It's really no different than a player with an ARod type contract. Except change the dollars owed to talent required to acquire. Maybe someone just has to have him. Too bad LaRussa and Stewart won't be involved because you could nuke them. -
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 12:48 PM) It's not Jose's fault that the offense wasn't able to produce more and keep the Sox competitive until he heated up. I mean if this was a pennant race we'd be praising him for turning it up down the stretch. That said, I had hopes he'd be a 5 WAR player consistently and those hopes have pretty much been dashed. Maybe he'll have a monster line next year but his defense and baserunning are about as bad as advertised so he needs to hit like 300/370/580 to put up that 5 WAR. Can he do it again like his rookie year? Hope so but not banking on it. He looks more like a 2-3 WAR player. Good starter, but not a superstar. Using advanced metrics, Jose Abreu is a better defensive 1B this year than the 3 time defending GG winner, and only slightly worse during his career.

Dick Allen replied to Kyyle23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) What's the point in moving Sale if you don't move Quintana? He's only signed for one additional year. The point is, there is no rush to trade either. You have to be blown out of the water. I hear sellers market, sellers market. We will see. The package some thought Sale would fetch from Boston wasn't nearly realistic, and baseball people claim the package for Quintana would be much less than it would be for Sale. He isn't sexy enough. The position of strength the White Sox have in trade negotiations is that they don't have to trade either. It isn't like they make a ton of money or are pending free agents. Let that work in your favor. There is no reason to do something with these guys just to make message board posters happy, because if you settle, while they will be jubilant when it happens, when the prospects of the lesser package ultimately fail, they will have known it all along. -

If you think about it, the Duke trade has telegraphed what they will be doing this offseason. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 08:16 AM) Got this text from a close friend this morning. Take it with some grain of salt, although I completely trust him on this type of stuff. Thought it was worth sharing nonetheless. The reason Guaranteed Rate got the deal was because they paid the most money. Brooks was at the event with Rick Hahn in which I attended. There were questions his way about the naming rights, how some are so offended. He said what was in the Tribune about it being a financially neutral deal, is not accurate. The sponsorship agreement, in which the Tribune had no access, took it over the top.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 07:04 PM) He already had 5 years left, I was assuming that was the end of his career, maybe not. Maybe he'll Paterno and stay until just before death. He had 4, this added 6, and he won't coach his entire contract. His son is being groomed. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 06:58 PM) I wonder what kind of person Jose is. Salt of the earth? Good guy? Lazy? A dick? I know nothing about him. He's obviously having one helluva year thanks to his second-half tear (when we were out of the race). He's an all star right now. I'm not blasting him, just curious if he's one of the top five hitters in the AL or what we've got here?? He is the tem's nomimee for the Roberto Clemente Award, so he probably is a pretty decent guy.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 06:48 PM) But Abreu could never hit like this all year...he's been hitting like 2000 Barry Bonds over the past month and we STILL aren't exactly tearing it up. Beck, Turner, Kahnle, Ynoa, Shields, Ranaudo.. Just a few reasons why. It isn't like they have their full roster hitting on all cylinders. They also went 23-10 when he wasn't hitting much. If he was hitting like this earlier, the roster would probably look very different right now. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 06:32 PM) Someone touched on this the other day and I have touched on it in previous weeks...so as of now Abreu is raking and Sale and Q are both pitching fairly close to what we would expect from them....and yet...WE ARE STILL NOT WINNING consistently. Who cares what things might "look" like. There is proof that even with these guys clicking, we still cannot win consistently. This simply is not working. That is pretty short sided. If Abreu had been like this all year, half the bullpen wouldn't be in White Sox uniforms. Shields and Ranaudo wouldn't be given the leashes they have been given. It is a totally different situation. But you are going to get your wish.
