K.C. Specials @ Chicago WHite Sox 4:10 PM CDT
Hosmer hits a pop up that goes 420 in the wind. 2-0. We can probably use some 420 with Shields on the mound and the wind howling straight out.

The Anthem
They should just bag the National Anthem before sporting events. I think Blackhawks fans would be the only ones who missed it. When people watch a game on television and they televise the anthem (something they used to do all the time, now, unless it's a Blackhawks game, or celebrity at a playoff or all star game, never) do the people who are offended by this, get up off their couch during it?

Jon Heyman: Sox have little interest in moving Sale or Quintana
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 9, 2016 -> 09:07 AM) Exactly. They need to acquire the future MVP candidate that is currently in the minors whoever that may be. They need to identify guys and they need to be right. Matt Davidson and Avi Garcia should be red flags in regards to anyone thinking these guys are better at identifying minor league talent.

QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 02:44 PM) This multi-page voter fraud argument has me considering killing myself. Anyone have any suggestions on how to go about doing it? Pills and booze. Might as well go out with a real nice buzz.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 02:12 PM) So, apparently in New York State it is legal for one party to record another without the other's express permission. This is relevant today because as of last week we started hearing rumors that Gretchen Carlson had been taping comments by Roger Ailes and others for the last several years. Within a few days of the rumors that there were tapes, Fox News settled her sexual harassment claim for $20 million, along with several other claims by other women today, and issued a public apology. For the most part, people such as Sean Hannity who tweeted that she was a liar have yet to comment. What's very odd about this is usually cases are settled and the financial terms not disclosed. I am married to a Labor/Employment lawyer, and she thinks the $20 million figure is BS.

Jose Abreu
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) That's just because Hosmer's defense has always been way overrated. He can pick it with the best of them, but that doesn't mean much when you have by far the worst range of any 1B. I was actually shocked reading about it. He's the Derek Jeter of 1B. Just watching him, he looks like a magician.

Jon Heyman: Sox have little interest in moving Sale or Quintana
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 12:51 PM) I am not convinced there is a team willing or more likely able to give a major haul for Sale. I don't think Boston , New York or Dodgers will be willing to give up their core of young players now that all 3 are having solid 2nd halfs. I don't think Sale should be traded for prospects only. So I think in the end the Sox will not find a trade partner for Sale that will give them 4-5 MLB players/prospects in return. That's the problem. It's easy to say xxx is worth this, so a guy like Sale, cheaply signed for 3 years should be worth significantly more, but IMO, there is a limit a team will go to get Sale. You are going to have to decimate your system. Probably take a young player or 2 off your current roster. I used houses earlier as an example. The more expensive something is, the more exclusive the market. The teams that have what it takes to get him you could probably count on one hand. Those willing to give up what most of the public thinks is even fair value shrinks the total even more. It's really no different than a player with an ARod type contract. Except change the dollars owed to talent required to acquire. Maybe someone just has to have him. Too bad LaRussa and Stewart won't be involved because you could nuke them.

Jose Abreu
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 12:48 PM) It's not Jose's fault that the offense wasn't able to produce more and keep the Sox competitive until he heated up. I mean if this was a pennant race we'd be praising him for turning it up down the stretch. That said, I had hopes he'd be a 5 WAR player consistently and those hopes have pretty much been dashed. Maybe he'll have a monster line next year but his defense and baserunning are about as bad as advertised so he needs to hit like 300/370/580 to put up that 5 WAR. Can he do it again like his rookie year? Hope so but not banking on it. He looks more like a 2-3 WAR player. Good starter, but not a superstar. Using advanced metrics, Jose Abreu is a better defensive 1B this year than the 3 time defending GG winner, and only slightly worse during his career.

Jon Heyman: Sox have little interest in moving Sale or Quintana
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) What's the point in moving Sale if you don't move Quintana? He's only signed for one additional year. The point is, there is no rush to trade either. You have to be blown out of the water. I hear sellers market, sellers market. We will see. The package some thought Sale would fetch from Boston wasn't nearly realistic, and baseball people claim the package for Quintana would be much less than it would be for Sale. He isn't sexy enough. The position of strength the White Sox have in trade negotiations is that they don't have to trade either. It isn't like they make a ton of money or are pending free agents. Let that work in your favor. There is no reason to do something with these guys just to make message board posters happy, because if you settle, while they will be jubilant when it happens, when the prospects of the lesser package ultimately fail, they will have known it all along.

If you think about it, the Duke trade has telegraphed what they will be doing this offseason.

New Ballpark Name
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 08:16 AM) Got this text from a close friend this morning. Take it with some grain of salt, although I completely trust him on this type of stuff. Thought it was worth sharing nonetheless. The reason Guaranteed Rate got the deal was because they paid the most money. Brooks was at the event with Rick Hahn in which I attended. There were questions his way about the naming rights, how some are so offended. He said what was in the Tribune about it being a financially neutral deal, is not accurate. The sponsorship agreement, in which the Tribune had no access, took it over the top.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 07:04 PM) He already had 5 years left, I was assuming that was the end of his career, maybe not. Maybe he'll Paterno and stay until just before death. He had 4, this added 6, and he won't coach his entire contract. His son is being groomed.

Jose Abreu
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 06:58 PM) I wonder what kind of person Jose is. Salt of the earth? Good guy? Lazy? A dick? I know nothing about him. He's obviously having one helluva year thanks to his second-half tear (when we were out of the race). He's an all star right now. I'm not blasting him, just curious if he's one of the top five hitters in the AL or what we've got here?? He is the tem's nomimee for the Roberto Clemente Award, so he probably is a pretty decent guy.

Jon Heyman: Sox have little interest in moving Sale or Quintana
QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 06:48 PM) But Abreu could never hit like this all year...he's been hitting like 2000 Barry Bonds over the past month and we STILL aren't exactly tearing it up. Beck, Turner, Kahnle, Ynoa, Shields, Ranaudo.. Just a few reasons why. It isn't like they have their full roster hitting on all cylinders. They also went 23-10 when he wasn't hitting much. If he was hitting like this earlier, the roster would probably look very different right now.

Jon Heyman: Sox have little interest in moving Sale or Quintana
QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 06:32 PM) Someone touched on this the other day and I have touched on it in previous weeks...so as of now Abreu is raking and Sale and Q are both pitching fairly close to what we would expect from them....and yet...WE ARE STILL NOT WINNING consistently. Who cares what things might "look" like. There is proof that even with these guys clicking, we still cannot win consistently. This simply is not working. That is pretty short sided. If Abreu had been like this all year, half the bullpen wouldn't be in White Sox uniforms. Shields and Ranaudo wouldn't be given the leashes they have been given. It is a totally different situation. But you are going to get your wish.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 04:22 PM) His buyout went from 8 to over 40 million dollars. Recruits knew he would still be coaching Iowa for the next 5 years already. His buyout was $8 million because it went down every year. It was over $20 million 2 or 3 years ago. I don't know why you are so concerned about Iowa wanting to lock up its very successful football coach. I am an alum and think it is a good move. Have been following the team since he was an assistant under Hayden, and am a bit more realistic IMO, of their chances to compete year after year. There are going to be down years. There are going to be great ones, they aren't winning a National Championship. And to think they should ne in the conversion for one isn't being realistic. Iowa is usually top 10 in Athlectic department revenue., so they can afford him. And the buyout isn't going to happen anyway. He will retire in a few years and his son will be the next Iowa head coach.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 02:58 PM) I think you guys are overreacting a bit. Dude's getting paid 4-5 million a year, around top 15-20 in the country. The top guys make 7. He's maintained the "go to a bowl practically ever year and highly rated bowls ever 3-4 years" like Frye. For a school like Iowa, that's pretty standard and worth the price of admission IMO, especially coming off a 12-2 Rose Bowl year. Buyout seems odd, but ultimately if he keeps going to bowl games that's all pennies in the jar. He had similar language in his previous contract. If they were to buy him out 4 or 5 years ago, it would have cost a mint. Recruits know who is going to be coaching Iowa. I don't know why that's a bad thing. Besides, it isn't like coaching salaries are going to be dropping any time soon.

Jon Heyman: Sox have little interest in moving Sale or Quintana
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 02:24 PM) They would have but he was a 5/10 guy with kids in local high schools. he wasn't going anywhere. The Larry Himes rebuild worked pretty well. Though that was pretty much the only thing he could do with collusion going on and not being able to sign any FA's. Also kept Ozzie Guillen. In 3 years, you are going to flip the roster anyways. Avi is the longest tenured position player on the Sox now without a rebuild and he was acquired 3 years ago.

Jon Heyman: Sox have little interest in moving Sale or Quintana
QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) you state everything so matter-of-factly. I have said that I believe that team can compete, obviously nothing is guaranteed. not sure how you know for a fact that team couldn't compete. I'm sure you took the Rangers and Indians to have the two best records in the AL this year too. since you know exactly how everything will play out, who is going to win the world series this year? You can't win with him. He thinks the only exciting season since Reinsdorf owned the team is when they won the WS. Any other season, including playoff appearances....a boring failure. He did move the bar and say consecutive playoff appearances are exciting. So get this, in his world winning 102 games, and losing the WS in 7 games, boring, but the next year, if you did that and then snuck into the WC with an 86 win season and get trounced in one game, far more exciting because it's consecutive. He's probably the only guy who when Javy Vazquez got lit up in the 2008 playoffs, blamed Reinsdorf.

Jon Heyman: Sox have little interest in moving Sale or Quintana
The last time the White Sox did what would be considered a full rebuild, they kept one of their best players, if not their best, in Carlton Fisk. Was that a re-tool?

Jon Heyman: Sox have little interest in moving Sale or Quintana
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 01:49 PM) Rebuilding means trading from your core, so guys like Sale, Quintana, Abreu, Eaton, Rodon, Anderson, & Jones. Trading a bunch of guys a year from free agency and coming off poor seasons is definitely not rebuilding. Instead of arguing semantics, explain how such a strategy (deal the complimentary pieces) gets us closer to the playoffs or helps us achieve sustainable success. Frees up cash. Brings young players into the organization. Same types of things trading Sale does. Maybe the prospects aren't as sexy, maybe they have even a greater chance and not being anything, but if it's taking a step back to hopefully take a few steps forward, it's rebuilding. There are many ways to bring young players into an organization.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) I'll never understand extending a coach when they have multiple years left. Even if you don't expect to make a change, it's an unnecessary risk for debateable gain. College coaches with less than 5 years on their contracts recruiting HS kids who more than likely will redshirt and be in a program for 5 years, can definitely be a problem, especially when there has been heat on the coach previously.

Jon Heyman: Sox have little interest in moving Sale or Quintana
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 01:36 PM) But that's not a rebuild, that's just more retooling. And how does it help us maximize the three year window we have with Chris under control? You're punting at least the 2017 season by trading guys like Frazier, Melky, & Robertson and now have three big holes to fill before the 2018 season. If all goes well, which is unlikely for reasons listed numerous times, you have two seasons to compete before you lose Chris Sale for nothing. Does that really sound like a good plan to you? Again, this retooling nonsense has to end. Like Hahn said in the STH event, we aren't going to get better until we take a step back. More retooling is just delaying the inevitable. There are obvious risks when it comes to rebuilding, but they are far less than more half-ass retooling. Our track record over the past 10 seasons speaks for itself. No it's not. Trading veterans for minor leaguers is rebuilding. Why would it only be considered rebuilding if they traded Sale and/or Q? They aren't going to trade everyone away.

Miguel Gonzalez
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) whatever. he's not bringing much back one way or another. Yes. It's not like he is going to bring back a top prospect. Maybe a mediocre one. They still need guys to take the mound, and if he gets hot and a team has a need, maybe they will be desperate enough next season to give up a decent prospect. Or maybe you throw him in with another veteran to up an ante.
