Dave Kaplan reports Kenny Williams holding back Rick Hahn
Dick Allen replied to Donaldo's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 16, 2016 -> 02:02 PM) No. Kaplan said that Hahn's contract is up after the season. He said that the person he spoke with said that Hahn should give JR an ultimatum. He said this because this person believes that Hahn would get another job in 8 seconds. Maybe not a GM job, but as an Assistant and get another GM job within 2 years. Well respected in the industry. If all this is true, he's an assistant GM now. I don't think all of it is true. Maybe some of it is. But he knew what he was getting into. The other thing to keep in mind, if there is something to this, it shows JR has no trust in RH. What evidence is there to show RH does have all the answers? -

QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 16, 2016 -> 02:00 PM) Yeah that's stupid too. He sounds completely oblivious if this was the case. And on top of it, it isn't like he came from somewhere else and didn't really know what he was getting into. I also remember him taking all the blame for the Keppinger deal. -
Dave Kaplan reports Kenny Williams holding back Rick Hahn

I'll believe it when I see it. If RH has been JR and KW's pool boy since he got the job, I think you can blame him for sticking around this long. There is no way you can single one of the 3 out and say none of the problems are any of his fault. People were praising Hahn just a year and a half ago. When those moves went south, they had to be KW's idea. -
Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 16, 2016 -> 12:48 PM) Thanks to revenue sharing, Sox would never leave Chicago unless the league could make more money. Most places getting tossed around won't make more money than being the second team in Chicago. Maybe an initial burst, but after that, you are right. Look at the expansion teams since the Sox were going to move. The ALL have less revenue than the Sox. Tampa, Miami, Phoenix, and Denver. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 16, 2016 -> 12:47 PM) I 100% believe that MLB ownership would select an ownership group with Chicago ties versus one wanting to leave Chicago. I think big picture, the league as a whole makes more money with a second team in Chicago, and the OAK/TB moves to one of those markets versus the Sox front running one of those truly struggling franchises and potentially leaving it to stay where it currently is. That is why they wouldn't approve an ownership group who wanted to move the team. It's actually one reason JR got the Sox in the first place. Veeck initially wanted to sell to Marvin Davis who wanted to move the team to Denver. Then went with DeBartolo who said the team would stay although many did not believe it. The league wanted local ownership, and still do. -

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 16, 2016 -> 12:30 PM) I believe so, I think that the TV money they can get in those markets that have zero summer live sports inventory is going to dwarf what they would get as the second team in Chicago, especially if CSN goes in all 162 Cubs games and relegates the SOX to CSN+ or local TV. Why would the White Sox be the team that moves and not one of the 15 or so teams that don't have as much revenue or perceived value? Besides, one thing in all those articles the Tribune had about White Sox ownership a few years ago mentioned, was if the team was sold, JR wanted it be sold to locals. I would put odds that there is a 99% chance the White Sox are not sold before JR dies, a 75% chance his heirs keep the team, and a 0% chance they move in the next 25 years. -

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 16, 2016 -> 12:09 PM) Easy to say if you haven't lived through it, which I know you have. I don't take anything for granted. North Carolina has a ton of money and people. If they could figure out a way to be both a Charlotte AND Raleigh team.... At worst, the White Sox are a middle of the pack team in value and revenue, even with their dry spell on the field. That isn't a team that gets moved. They will not be moved. It's ridiculous to even think there's a chance. Charlotte and Raliegh combined have less than half the population of Chicago proper. 2 teams there would be a joke. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2016 -> 11:58 AM) The Rays are locked in to their stadium lease. The A's aren't. The White Sox also have a lease. Why would the league let the White Sox move and take away a landing spot for one of the other teams that has less revenue and worth significantly less as a franchise? -

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 16, 2016 -> 11:19 AM) There are definitely markets that have needs for a baseball team. SLC, UT The Research Triangle, NC San Antonio, TX Las Vegas, NV Indianapolis, IN These markets are all growing at a faster rate than Chicago, and in addition to that have regional sports networks that do not currently have local baseball programming. TV is where the real money is for baseball franchises now, ticket sales are nice, but they are drop in the bucket comparatively. Why haven't the Rays or A's moved? People need to get off the notion the White Sox would move. It isn't going to happen. -

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Aug 16, 2016 -> 07:45 AM) Not necessarily true. The poster said early stages. Not sure how much you know about early dementia but I have been working with patients for close to 20 years. Someone who has early dementia can be perfectly lucid in some areas but will have other parts of their daily routine that they struggle with. For example, it is very common for a dementia patient to sit down and work a crossword puzzle or discuss their childhood yet have no clue what they ate for lunch an hour ago. If Jr was able to do a 30 minute feature he most likely would be in a very early stage if he does have the start of dementia. Or he could just not have it. These minority partners have no idea how much of the team JR owns. If he had what the claim says he has, they wouldn't know about that either. And he most likely wouldn't be running a baseball team. -

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Aug 16, 2016 -> 06:14 AM) I have a friend who knows one of the minority owners son who said Reinsdorf has beginning stages of Alzheimer's. Don't know how much of this true, but when is the last time anyone has seen Jerry in public. The past 1 1/2 all you see are email responses from him. When he got elected to the Basketball HOF a few months ago, he did several interviews included a 30 minute feature on Comcast. Alzheimer's story is BS. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 03:29 PM) So when they are dying their shares are just going to a trust, but there is no active representative of the original partners interest at their meetings. Is that right? The shares go to their heirs, and they do with them what they want. If they sell them JR has the right of first refusal. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 03:15 PM) Dick - can you elaborate on these: "There was a time before they won the WS where several thought selling and setting up their estates for when they die was the play. After they won, most of them shifted and thought their heirs would love being part of owning a team and all that comes with it." Is this referring to other partners or JR's family? Other partners. Several wanted out. A few are getting way up there in age, but I think the title changed their minds. There was a quote by one in the article I read about it saying the ownership structure of many of the other teams was making it hard to compete and that was 2003 or 2004, then they won it all. They can get out and sell their shares, but it is not nearly what they would get if the team was sold. -
The Sox fired a DJ for playing Whitesnake when Chuck Finley was pitching because Finley's ex-wife was dating or married to David Coverdale. This Cubs guy either is the dumbest person in the world or he knew what he was doing. That tune wouldn't have appropriate for anyone. Maybe he was one of the few that didn't agree with bringing Chapman aboard even after he hit over 100 on the Wrigley gun, and decided to go out in a blaze of glory. There was no way he wasn't going to get fired.

The Cubs actually interviewed Martinez when the hired Renteria. I wonder if Maddon would have replaced Martinez if they had hired him instead. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 02:32 PM) In a formal sense, or an informal sense? I mean, are you saying that if JR decides to sell the team, all of the board and minority owners would get no say at all, and it wouldn't come before the board for a vote? Yes. In fact, the White Sox Board of Directors keeps getting smaller. When a board members dies or sells off, they do not get replaced. JR could sell the team tomorrow to anyone and his partners would have no say. All of his partners could want to sell tomorrow and JR can still say no. There was a time before they won the WS where several thought selling and setting up their estates for when they die was the play. After they won, most of them shifted and thought their heirs would love being part of owning a team and all that comes with it. I think his son Michael is the executor. I am thinking if it was his wife, it would be a guaranteed sell. Michael was the one who was quoted it depended on the day whether he would sell or not, making it seem like his call. I do know somebody who knows him, and at least as of a few years ago, despite whatever has been said in the media, Michael would love a crack at his dad's role with the White Sox, and although much would probably be run the same, there would be differences. Maybe that has changed with his Bulls job, but I doubt it. -

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 02:17 PM) How would a decision to sell be handled does JR as the majority partner decide or is there a board process to get a sale approved? It's JR's call 100%. No other shareholder has any rights, and if he died, the executor of his will gets the call. No one else. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 09:15 AM) Or maybe it was a vast left wing conspiracy? In which he was involved. It does appear he perhaps doesn't want to be president, and he want Hillary to win, she wasn't always Crooked Hillary to him. But he does have an unmatched ego, there would have to be a point where he just wouldn't continue to be willing to be the buffoon. He right now is appealing to people who could never buy a unit in one of his properties, couldn't afford a night in one of his hotels. Wouldn't buy any of his cologne, have no need to buy one of his ties. Wouldn't golf at one of his clubs. He probably has been so obnoxious, that he has lost potential business in those areas.

QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Aug 14, 2016 -> 05:26 PM) I think one of Trump's greatest transgressions was calling Michael Bloomberg "Little." I can't respect that. "Little" is Marco Rubio. It's like when a rapper rhymes a word with the same word. Just lazy. He doesn't think he should be held to what he holds everyone else. In 2012 he ripped Romney for not releasing his taxes saying not releasing them shows something is wrong. Trump won't release his taxes, so something must be terribly wrong, but if someone said that, they are liars and unfair. He is not unlike a very spoiled 8 year old brat and bully. If he loses the election was rigged. Maybe he's right. He's the one rigging it. I just think what he is doing now is beyond dangerous. The stuff with the "2nd amendment people", there are some sick people just looking for a reason. Saying an election where he is going to get trounced is rigged, just more ammo for extreme US citizen nut jobs. Just look at the video of the old man leaving one of his rallies. Calling the media there traitors, flipping them off, calling himself a patriot. It's a pattern with Trump. It appears to me he has built his entire life upon untruthful boasts etc. now is using the same tactic to become POTUS.

Not to mention many slamming Trump today are Republicans. Lyin Donald's campaign is a total disaster.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 14, 2016 -> 03:37 PM) Chris Sale can forget about the Cy Young. Hasn't won a game since before the All Star break (to be fair thanks in part to his bullpen "friends.") And regarding Sanchez, two outs you are going on the pitch, no excuse for that especially with Miami not holding him close to the bag. Mark Why would he be going on the pitch? He just isn''t fast. The worst thing he could have done is get picked off. The LF made a good throw and that was that. Anything offline a bit and he is safe. -

QUOTE (Scoots @ Aug 14, 2016 -> 03:09 PM) Didn't know the plate block rule was altered...so that dropped scoop by Abreu basically blew the game then. Yes it used to be just in the baseline. Now you actually have to affect the runner which it didn't, and he has the rightto catch the ball as well. The Sox got burned before they tweaked it a bit. At one time that was illegal. -

They changed that rule after a while so it isn't' as ridiculous as it once was. He has to get in the line to catch the ball and Sanchez wasn't there yet anyway. It was the right call. -
QUOTE (WBWSF @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 09:46 PM) I keep reading and hearing that Abreu is happy that his son is with him in Miami. The son has some type of visa from Cuba. I can't help but wonder, if the son is here in the USA now, why doesn't he just stay here? I don't know if this forum is the place for this but still if somebody can answer this for me I would really like to hear it. I don't think the kids mother is Abreu's wife.
