  1. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 05:55 PM) JR settled for the present site after Addison/Dupage County didn't workout. If he would have accepted the South Loop site that was offered to him at the start of looking for a new stadium by the City of Chicago, The White Sox would have been playing in the South Loop these last 25 years. He rejected the South loop site because he wanted to have the stadium built in Addison on land that he owned. He also left Sarasota Florida where the White Sox had their spring training for many years. He moved them to Arizona and had them playing in a stadium on land that he owned. No, the South Loop site was rejected because no one wanted to pay the $65 million estimated bill for infrastructure around the park, and compensate the park district for losing the Bears. The developers actually wanted the Bears in there also. It wouldn't have been a baseball only stadium. What would have helped the Sox was if parks like Camdn Yards and Petco were build before theirs. The downtown retro look would have been a lock then.
  2. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 04:59 PM) In the long list of bone-headed decisions made by Reinsdorf over the past 36 years, this one is right there near the top. Except it isn't true. He didn't demand the park be built where it was. Look it up and find out the truth. He settled for the site.
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) The audio is here in the 2nd hour: http://chicago.cbslocal.com/audio/the-boers-bernstein-show/ Sounds like nothing concrete but said rich people think they'll be available soon. He basically said: Lots of people think White Sox will be available relatively soon. Back channel talk among wealthy people wanting to buy Sox. Team valued around $1.1 billion now. They speculated that a new stadium in the loop with the skyline in the background pushes it near $2 million. There is zero chance they would get away with building a new stadium in the loop. It's all BS.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 01:35 PM) Trump touts child care programs, but they're for guests only Everyone else is a liar. He is a truth teller. Maybe he just doesn't know the definitions.
  5. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 01:00 PM) What's Eddie DeBartolo doing these days? 5 to 10?
  6. QUOTE (chisoxt @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) Maybe Jerry remembers how much his ownership group subtley crapped all over Veeck's regime right after they took ownership...Perhaps he's fearful that Cuban would do the same thing to him.. First off, when Cuban bought the Mavs, the vote to approve his ownership was 29-1. Guess who was the 1? Now, after they see how he runs the show, which would be a lot of spending without a salary cap, the other owners would certainly see how he would only increase their costs, let alone some of the other stuff that goes with his package. As a fan, he would be great, but for other owners, you could see how he would be not so great. Also, if JR really dislikes him, there also is the Comcast Sportsnet issue. If Cuban owned the Bulls, they would be partners. It doesn't seem like JR would like that, plus he probably would want someone he and his son are really familiar with and enjoy working with, as the Bulls and White Sox may be joined at the hip for long after JR is gone. I still think 10 years from now, Michael Reinsdorf is the Chairman of the White Sox.
  7. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 11:45 PM) You can call the others out all you want. I'm a White Sox fan, and so I'm only interested in talking about what the owner of my team engages his or her behavior in. But by your logic, one could not be criticized for stealing from a store if everyone else in the neighborhood was trying to do the same. No offense, but not sure that makes any sense whatsoever. And you know that. Gee, I don't think anyone noticed.
  8. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 06:29 PM) I'd like to see Trump buy the Sox because he would build a new stadium and get the Cubs to pay for it. You make a good point.
  9. QUOTE (Username @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 05:50 PM) That's not a stereotype. It's a fact that the stadium is in an brutal area for selling tickets. Literally nothing adjacent to the stadium to draw people in. People came for the Cubs games. How did the Bulls and Blackhawks ever sell tickets before they fixed up the West Loop a bit? And what is adjacent to the United Center now? What is adjacent to Soldier Field?
  10. If it was true people just want to buy teams as a trophy and don't care about making money, why would the Sox need a new stadium? Why would they need new branding? Wouldn't just jacking the payroll up and spending like crazy in the international market do the trick?
  11. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 05:26 PM) Oh yeah and Rahm needs to give us the old post office while we're on this topic again. He doesn't own it. This "conversation" Bernstein had with a minority owner (. I am guessing a minority owner of a team in Bernsteins fantasy league) about new stadium closer to downtown, rebranding, is more fantasy. Everyone is smarter than this. Bernstein is making things up.
  12. QUOTE (chisoxt @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 04:45 PM) I remember Bernstein talking about the next owners of the Sox a couple of months ago, claiming that he has some inside information with a minority owner of the team...a claim that I have no reason to dispute. He mentioned that in speaking with this individual they believed that the next owner of the team would have to undertake a gut rebranding of the franchise, including a new stadium somewhere closer to downtown. Well if the team is worth $1 billion, another $1.5 billion for a stadium, that's a pretty significant investment. Actually there is every reason to dispute Bernstein source. He hasn't been correct yet. He has a talk show and needs to throw the White Sox in the mix. If they talk about the team it will be a rerun of the past 50 times they talked about them so he throws this out to make it interesting.
  13. A couple things. JR does not like Cuban and is one reason Cuban doesn't own a team now. If he sold to him he would look ridiculous to the other owners so ridiculous they would probably block the sale, and even if he did sell to him since he s would own the Bulls he would be business partner's with him. That isn't going to happen. Finally, when is the last time Bernstein had a scoop no other reporter had?I would guess never so it is all mute anyway.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 03:28 PM) Unless it's Cuban. And the chances JR would sell to Cuban are about zero.
  15. So Bernstein who loves to mention sources on things that never come true, now has a source that says they MIGHT be for sale. That's quite a scoop. I guess they needed a topic for the show today.
  16. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 12:27 PM) Since Hahn was hired in 2012 there have been an additional 17 teams that hired new GMs. Of those 17 new GMs, 10 have been stuck with the manger they inherited and only 3 (Dave Stewart with Arizona, Jerry Dipoto with Seattle and Matthew Silverman with Tampa Bay) were allowed to hire a new manager from the get go. So I would definitely say it's not new GM 101 that they get to pick their own manager. As a matter of fact it's not all that common. Just 17% of new GMs have been allowed to immediately hand pick their own manager since 2012. And the Twins already let everyone know Molitor is their manager next year. Besides, Hahn took over after the 2012 season. Was he really going to fire Robin then? Pluse he was part of the crew that hired him in the first place. He did give him an extension.
  17. Burdi may be up next season. I agree they probably trade Robertson. Nate Jones will be back. Jennings. They will need another lefty. Turner has actually looked pretty good in the bullpen. I'm intrigued by him. I hope they lean on him a lot the balance of the season. Hopefully Putnam and Petricka will be back. There is potential to be a decent bullpen, even really good, but they have been gas on a fire since May.
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) And Rodon over Aiken. Yes,and an infield of Bryant, Correa, Altuve, and whatever is pretty unreal. Springer and JD Martinez in the corners. It's amazing to think of what they could have been.
  19. And if he continues to suck, Hahn and KW are still idiots who love veterans who can't play anymore. I'm just wondering how good Houston is if they draft Kris Bryant instead of Appel, and keep JD Martinez around. They probably don't trade for Gomez.
  20. I think Frazier might be shopped this offseason and if they do step back will probably be traded by next deadline. I fully expect the Sox to go hard after Moustakis after the 2017 season.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 04:34 PM) Offseason Basketball News: Here is where D'wyane Wade is living: http://chicago.curbed.com/2016/8/10/124220...d-coast-mansion I live about a block away. Maybe we hang out together. My place is a little smaller.
  22. QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 05:50 PM) Uh... How do picks 16 - 25 in the 2016 MLB draft have any ability to have WAR weighted against their major league career? Edit: Duh, retread your post and understand what you're jiving at now. sSince 1992, the only players selected at 26 overall with a career WAR over 1 are Bonderman in 2001 at 5.2, and Mark Johnson selected by the White Sox in 1992 at 2.0. You get a contributing major league player at 26, you did a good job. A ton of organizations failed..
  23. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 05:18 PM) If that's what they're doing, then fantastic. If he's as advanced as Sale was and can move into the rotation after some time in the pen, then Hahn made the pick of the year. But if he used a pick the top 26 pick for a bullpen pitcher, then Hahn completely botched this entire situation of having 3 top 40 picks. I'm still not sure of the point of rushing him up, except that that's what Rick Hahn does. It really is feeling like 2017 is Hahn's last stand, and there will be carnage in terms of Sox assets if it doesn't work (and even if it does). Did you know that the 10 players selected at #26 prior to Burdi have a combined career WAR of -1.2? If this guy is a contributing reliever, Hahn nailed this pick.
  24. I think one of Sale or Q will go for a package of youngsters. Maybe some swapping of others. I also think they will try to bring some guys in to compete next season. The division isn't great. KC is on the way down. Detroit is always going to be on the edge of collapse. Cleveland's line up is pretty suspect, and their pitchers are starting to get injured. Who knows what is going on with Brantley. Minnesota has issues. A decent team can win the division. Maybe trading one of the 2 big pitchers, replenishes some of the farm system, and they could spend a little to fill in additional holes. They are also due for some of their clearance rack items to pan out. They just can't count on several of them to work out to be successful. The logic has been solid on most of them, but the execution has not.
  25. QUOTE (captain54 @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 02:14 PM) The Dodgers are tied for first place, so apparently his blown saves don't matter.. since according to you blown saves only matter if you lose the game... Kenley Jansen outperforms Robertson in practically every major stat relevant to a closer.. C'mon man.. I agree with a lot of what you say.. Don't go disappointing me... The bottom line isn't Chris Sale wins, it's White Sox wins. Yeah, Robertson has been a bit off more than usual this season, but a blown save isn't so bad if the team wins the game. They have won 4 of his 5 blown saves. They lost the KC game when he gave up 7 so really they have won every game but 2 where his performance mattered this season. He hasn't been up to snuff. He would probably admit it. But it really hasn't done anything to the teams W-L record vs. what he would have to have been for most to say he's been elite this year.
