  1. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 10:09 AM) I don't know, I feel the organ could serve better as forever a musuem piece in the park than sold for a finite amount of charity money. Hopefully it falls into good hands. A freaking organ? People will be lined up around the block to look over the organ thousands of times. It is good to hear Nancy herself is the one donating it for charity. Why hasn't anyone questioned where it even was if it would be such a big deal to look at? Let someone buy it, and help a needy kid or family.
  2. It serves a far better good raising money for charity.
  3. QUOTE (bruni @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 09:46 AM) Given that 3B was a black hole for the White Sox, they should have been on the phone with every team with a possible 3B solution for them at the trade deadline, including Toronto with whom they are familiar from past dealings. Believe me, had they been in real time communication with Toronto on the 31st, they could have made a trade that day with Toronto as Toronto was acquiring Revere. I am sure that he could have been snagged as a same day follow up to the Revere trade. Believe me, Toronto knew good and well that acquiring Revere would require them to dump Valencia and they would have gladly received something vs. nothing. Not hard to make it work if the Sox brass were being proactive-not reactive. So your original complaint was shown to be incorrect, but you just can't admit you were wrong. The White Sox aren't the only team looking for a third baseman. It looks like a lot of teams missed out on the Messiah, Danny Valencia.
  4. Adam LaRoche had a better OBP than Hanley Ramirez last season. Hanley Ramirez is a terrible idea.
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 06:07 PM) lol none of the guys we dealt away in that trade really amounted to much (Morse broke out in his upper-20s with a different team so he likely would have been dfa'd or released or whatever with us at some point as well). Even the Swisher trade, Gio turned out well, but the others were nothing, and Gio had plenty of detractors on this board. Swisher wasn't that awful for the White Sox. He still hit some homers and got on base. He certainly wasn't what he was right before or right after, but it was a decent gamble. That was back in the day when the Sox had an offense.
  6. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 05:54 PM) Wow. That's actually true. Green sox hero worships prospects. His ideal team would be 25 guys making minimum, moved ou the next year because they would be due a raise. He still says trading for Freddy Garcia was stupid, even though it worked out in the form of a championship, and he ignores the Sox traded him for Gio and Floyd.
  7. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 04:45 PM) Based on what? Thompson's 800+OPS and impeccable defense when he played? Sanchez' first year, where he too played excellent defense? And yet somehow we are supposed to believe that Brett Lawrie is a plus player in this league???? Bottom line is Sox fans as a group, just like the front office, have zero patience with youth. Zero. They would much rather trade them all in for players who are proven to be mediocre. Thus, in my 48 years of following this team, there have been 5 playoff appearances. Five in 48. But we had those veterans and plenty of heroes. So let's go do another Swisher trade for Lawrie. Sox made the playoffs when they traded for Swisher.
  8. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 11:59 AM) ok, i may not agree for this reason, at this point, if the sox can get out from under his contract, so much the better. even if the sox will pay, what, 3 mil of his salary. the risk is too much for me to accept that gamble. furthermore, even if he can hit a little better than last yr, no one can say his offensive stat will be his normal let alone above avg, something that i will need to see to accept. \ lastly, look at paulie last couple of yrs as a sox, loos at his stats. that is what i am expecting to see. and i hope i am wrong. It isn't logical you could get something for LaRoche or even much salary relief if it is assumed he will be as horrible next season. If it only saves them a million or so, they are better off seeing if he can bounce back. Baseball Prospectus really thought he would age decently last year. He had one of his highest walk rates and lowest k rates in 2014. Maybe it was just the adjustment to the AL and to DHing that threw him off a bit, but unless there is some real savings, getting rid of him just to get rid of him makes little sense to me. He is a highly respected teammate.
  9. QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 07:14 AM) "Can't get big league hitters out" is an expression, Wite, not a literal statement. I thought with your Adminhood you would know the difference. I wasn't talking about his performance in 2013-14. Last season, he had a lot of trouble getting anyone out, especially after his first 30 days after being called up. He pitched 30 innings last season, so with your powers of deduction, he recorded 90 outs. He gave up 46 hits and 23 walks/HBP. And he was getting worse as the season progressed. Figure it out. He couldn't get MANY/ENOUGH hitters out, okay? He wouldn't be the first guy to struggle getting many/enough/however you want to put it , big league hitters out, who eventually figure out how to get them out. He has a ton of ability. He has horrible command and control. If he can get that harnessed, he would be a well above average bullpen option. That is obviously a huge if, but it doesn't cost too much to find out if he can, and you won't exactly get a future all star for his services.
  10. Micah is doing a lot of White Sox holiday charity things right now. IMO, it's a sign he probably isn't out the door, at least they aren't dangling him.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 05:33 PM) Given that my question was "how can we be certain that his 2015 will be more representative of his future performance than his 2013-2014 years" and that was your reply, I interpret this as you asserting certainty that his next 3 years will be well represented by his 2015 performance. Is that fair? You conclude what you want to conclude, all I am saying is you seemed to credit hisimprovement on it being a contract year, or you probably wouldn't have mentioned it. I am pointing out one of his poor seasons you mentioned was also contract year. That might disprove a thought that he would only play well for a contract. The fact is we can't be certain how anyone will perform in the future.
  12. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 28, 2015 -> 01:22 PM) No idea how well his offense will translate, but defense is pretty much defense. And that's some real real solid glovework there. I could make a YouTube video of Avi Garcia playing the outfield, and if you had never seen him play and only saw video, you would think he was a gold glove quality OF. I will give you this guy has a reputation of being good with the glove.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 04:29 PM) Through 2013-2014, Alexei had a .703 OPS, Asdrubal Cabrera had a .697 OPS. Alexei may be too old to do that any more, fine. Are we ready to pay $10 million for Asdrubal Cabrera to put up a sub .700 OPS the next 2-3 years if he puts up the numbers he did in 2013-2014, or is that a contract we're likely to regret? How can we be certain that his 2015 campaign, during a contract year, is more representative of what he'll do in his 30s than his previous 1200 PAs? One of the years you are using against him was also a contract year.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 04:21 PM) It doesn't make any sense, except for punting recruiting for the second year in a row by refusing to get rid of an interim coach and making the next coach's job impossible. Where they messed up was not firing the AD with Beckman. Then they could have hired a new one by now and he or she could have hired a new coach. How was their recruiting this year? They probably saved that since there would be no coach in place for a while now. Or they hire a guy their new AD may not know , or they hire the guy the other 20 teams looking for coaches left over. You also might have a ton of transfers if no one knew who would be coaching them for a while. In the short term, it doesn't help them, and it really won't kill them, and it probably saves them from totally bottoming out, and next year, the new AD will be in a position to hire their guy. Frankly, I don't like Cubit, and find it hard to believe he was the #2 guy in the program and he supposedly had no idea what Beckman was doing. If he didn't, that shows something is lacking as well, but the players seem to like him. At the very worst, Illinois is punting, and delaying their rebuild a year or so. But then everything should be lined up a bit better. It isn't like some MAC coach 15 teams passed on is going to get a Harbaugh like turnaround out of them next year.
  15. QUOTE (gatnom @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 03:00 PM) For as little as they seem to care or understand about the reality of college athletics, it's truly amazing they even bother to field a team. Since they don't have a permanent AD, this move makes some sense. By the time the new AD is in place, they would be in the back of the line for hiring a coach. Let the new guy pick his own guy, and if they have to pay Cubit for the final year, it really isn't a big deal. They aren't paying Beckmann, and are saving money with Cubit.
  16. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Nov 28, 2015 -> 01:24 PM) Michigan can't stop the run up the middle or the option overall. Looking pretty bleak. There is no doubt in my mind OSU is the class of the Big Ten. When they get it going no one stops them. I just think they took too many plays and opponents for granted this season and a lot of their games were tight for a lot longer than they should have been. I think of they somehow get back into the playoff, they have a great chance of winning it all. It appears they realize they need to play full games now. Michigan had no shot the second half.
  17. QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 27, 2015 -> 08:01 PM) Ya, not giving up Q for this clown http://www.tmz.com/#article/2015/11/27/yas...puig-bar-brawl/ Yes, my pursuit has ended. A sister beater.
  18. His advanced MLB numbers where still horrific.
  19. QUOTE (Boogua @ Nov 27, 2015 -> 10:02 PM) I would be pretty surprised if Iowa kept it within 10 against MSU (well, if Cook plays). Purdue, Rutgers, and Nebraska, even without the bad call that gave them the win, kept it within 10 vs. Michigan State. I wonder what Cowherd, who guaranteed fraud Iowa would lose to Nebraska will have to say now. Iowa was playing on a short week vs. Nebraska who had a bye last weekend as well.
  20. NESN had a article explaining how insensitive and classless it was of CBS to show Romo's wife crying after he was injured yesterday. Of course the article contained a still photo of her crying and video of was was supposedly classless.
  21. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Nov 26, 2015 -> 11:28 AM) Ok I'll bite, where has Robin failed with platooning in the past? Who should he have used differently? It is amazing how many people think Robin Ventura knows so much less about Major League Baseball than people who have never been in a clubhouse.
  22. Why Hahn didn't' send a couple of decent prospects to Houston to Get Jason Castro, a guy who is actually a worse hitter than Flowers, and pay him double, that would have made more sense. In truth, I think the catching position is becoming like relievers have been viewed in the past. Except for a select few that are worth their weight in gold, you are better off dumpster diving, hoping to catch a guy who will have a good year. There are so many that had that one big year and live off it for half a decade. The middle class catcher is going the way of the Edsel it seems, there are a few, but not many, and if a guy can hit, he can't field and vice versa. I am not going to kid myself and think Avila is going to be the 2011 version. But his OBP is usually pretty decent. It obviously isn't as big of a weapon as if Micah Johsnon could put up a .350 OBP, but at least he isn't making as many outs and is flipping the line up.
  23. QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 03:17 PM) In 2013 and 2014 Puig was a top 5 hitter in the league. The lowest they MIGHT go is something like EJ, Micah, and Montas. And he is only 3 months older than Trayce Thompson.
  24. When Saladino and Dan Black were teammates in Charlotte, Black hit for a slightly better HR rate. In about a 1/3 of a Korean League season this year, Black hit 12 homers and had a .333/.413/.576 split. Dan f***ing Black. Maybe this guy is good, but I wouldn't count on it. This is all on the scouts.
  25. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 01:01 PM) The A'a designated AJ Griffin. Wouldn't mind the Sox adding him for some depth if he's healthy. They released him. He was a home run derby pitcher when he was healthy. I don't think even if he got close to healthy he would work with the White Sox. I also don't think he would be released if he could be close to healthy.
