QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 07:21 AM) I don't necessarily want a veteran manager. I want A manager with experience coaching in major-league baseball. I also like one who is attuned to modern thinking and analytics. The front office did a dreadful job last off-season so there really needs to be some churning there too. If you need experience coaching major league baseball to manage, how do you know all that Robin Ventura does wrong. Do you have that experience? It is funny how many people with no experience seem to think this experience is the most critical piece, yet with their zero experience, seem to be able to tell you all that a manager does wrong. -
Robertson Claimed by Yankees, pulled back by WS
Dick Allen replied to Dunt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Nothing will happen. Robertson will be the White Sox closer next year. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 06:24 PM) They were really disappointed in his "man" cover skills. He was making too much money and really needs to be in a primarily zone system. Money didn't play a role as they still have to pay him $4.4 million this year. But he was pretty awful last year. It's nice that they ate the money and are moving on. As fans, we certainly were sold a bill of goods in regards to the talent level with the old regime. A lot of people bought it. As bad as Trestman was as a head coach, Emery was probably worse as a GM.

White Sox Futility Under Williams/Hahn/Ventura

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 09:36 PM) When do they bat? Or field? Kris Bryant is a higher WAR than the active guys you mentioned, including Q, combined. Drafted starters aren't pieces. Go look over those drafted position players again. Go to Cubstalk and be happy Cubby boy. You also should take a math class. Sale alone has a higher fWAR than Bryant. -

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 04:34 PM) To answer the first question: I don't know, but didn't the assistant immediately run for the hills? If this were a regular end-of-year firing, I would fully expect Cubit to be gone, however I understand the Illini do have to field a team. Mark Lazerus just said Cubit gets an extra $400k the next 4 minths for being the #2 guy in the program, and not knowing what was going on. I think all the coaches will be gone at the end of the year, but firing all of them now does hurt the players. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 02:47 PM) That is the problem with the Sox, one title equals lifetime employment. It is not working no playoffs since 2008. Losers and cowards live in the past. Ironic using Ditka quotes. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 02:43 PM) DA I want him gone just saying what is going on in Champaign right now. Which is unfortunate if it works out that way. The AD has already admitted he can't stop this sort of thing from happening, they just have to hope the people they hire do right with their student athletes. And it's not just the football team. If I had a top recruit son or daughter and they were offered from Illinois, I would be hesitant, despite the outstanding academics, to get behind choosing them with this confirmed incompetent AD at the helm. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 02:25 PM) KW track record on evaluating talent is absolutely terrible overall. Many teams looked at Abreu, he was no diamond in a rough only KW knew about. But KW got him. Every candidate has warts. One thing KW has is a shiny ring. I know, he got lucky one year and everything worked out, but even if that was true, why doesn't it happen to every dope with a GM title? I am no fan of KW, but you have to give him a world title and he has brought many good players to Chicago. If you are going to remember everything that went wrong, you have to remember everything that went right. Not every team has won a WS since KW's reign began. That said, I think this is much ado about nothing. Why would he go to Seattle and leave his new wife in Chicago? -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 02:21 PM) Early reports I see Thomas will survive, he is putting this on Beckman claiming he knew nothing about it. Here's the problem with that. He is the AD. He hired Beckman. Beckman had issues at his previous job. The guy running the department needs to know what is going on. If his excuse is being naïve, that kind of goes against his job description. He needs to go. -

I have one prejudice about head football coaches. If a head football coach wears a visor, he is a doucebag. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) Hate Mike Thomas but I doubt this was his call. Maybe not, but they had him issue the statement. Maybe his next will be his resignation. It would be in the best interests of Illinois athletics. What is he going to miss when his next hire goes unvetted? -

QUOTE (gatnom @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) Gotta think the AD will be brushing up his resume pretty soon. It amazes me he is still there to make this call, and I agree, I don't think he will be interviewing the new permanent head coach. -
And that's a White Sox Winner !!
Dick Allen replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think you are playing with fire if the sole reason Chris Sale was to keep pitching was for a strikeout mark. The fact that he had to strike people out could lead to overthrowing or some other mechanical failure. Let him pitch until you are eliminated, then say see you in 2016. -

They want experience. Maybe Orsillo is coming to the White Sox TV booth and the Hawkeroo heads to Seattle to be their GM. Mercy! -
Micah Johnson back at AAA, expected call up in Sept

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 12:40 PM) What's the downside? Decent relative to waiver wire trades. I don't see downside. I just don't agree he should net a decent prospect. Maybe he could net a decent prospect. He also may net a guy we never hear from after 2 weeks of spring training. I wouldn't hold KW or RH accountable if the prospect for Matt Albers didn't work out. -
Jared Fogle/Subway scandal...presumption of guilt?
Dick Allen replied to caulfield12's topic in The Filibuster
I had 3 Subways within 3 blocks of my home, one was actually really good, but they all closed in the past year. Different franchisees too. The great Subway, the guy who ran it was a Sox fan and would always give you a couple of cookies or free chips if you where wearing any White Sox swag. Maybe Subway was on the downslide anyway. This obviously won't help. I read where there are more Subway sandwich shops than Starbuck's and McDonald's combined. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 11:16 AM) Like I said earlier, I will leave the Clintonian definition work to you. I think it is obvious what was meant, but whatever. You can use a political reference all you want, should implies if you don't you failed. If the Sox traded one month of Albers for a crappy prospect who never made it out of A ball, I doubt anyone would say the trade was bad. If they player they received for him was released in spring training, I really have doubts you would back anyone complaining about the return. Should and could are very different. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 10:48 AM) Does anyone know if Kenny is traveling with the team? If so, it would be an awful big coincidence for this to happen with the White Sox in town. They are in Chicago. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 10:47 AM) That is what we got back for a month of Gordon Beckham last year. I don't think he was really C level at the time, and he's done OK, but I wouldn't refer to him as a decent prospect. Saying the White Sox should get a decent prospect for one month of Matt Albers is just not accurate. It would be a fantastic trade. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 10:30 AM) If you can get pretty much anything at all for Albers, you take it. Odds are it will be the same sort of C level diamond in the rough we have been accumulating for some of our other similar deadline deals. At the end of the day it boils down to the Clintonian version of it depends on what your definition of "decent" is. You guys can argue that part out all you want. I don't even think you would get a C level prospect for him. It is one month of Matt Albers. If they trade him, fine, but unless you want to go to a top 100 list, the player they get back, if they could even get one back, probably wouldn't make the White Sox top 100. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 10:02 AM) AL Central vs NL Central 51 AL, 48 NL Pretty close. Royals and Cubs have a makeup in late Sep., otherwise the Central interleague schedule is over. The Big 3 in the NL Central are 33-26 in interleague games. Sox were 3-3 vs. the Cubs and 2-2 vs. the Cards. Why are they considered so good and the Sox so bad? These things are so random. You might have your bottom 3 starters face their top 3 in a series. Its hard for me to think a team could be 20-30 games over .500 in one league and just be average in the other. I think the teams that are good in each league would be good if they were in the other league.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 09:43 AM) We've gotten enough wild cards for 1 month guys that eventually IIRC the guy we got for Beckham last year at least wound up in the top 30 list. So you are saying one month of Matt Albers SHOULD net a decent prospect. Thanks. I disagree. -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 04:11 PM) Call him up when he is out of rehab. Release Beckham and Alexei. Or do a waiver deal for Alexei. Matt Albers too....no reason to hang onto him and he should net a decent prospect. Sanchez at short. One month of Matt Albers should net a decent prospect?
