9/23 at Detroit Tigers
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 01:23 PM) Wouldn't be selling low at all on Montas and Johnson. For Johnson, there are teams out there that love their speedy guys who have good OBP. I don't think he's a good fit with the Sox going forward due to the need for improved defense. All it takes is one GM out there to think Montas can be a starter, and you can get very good value for him. Micah failed to stick this season. You already have been ripping Montas for a little while. Why is that not selling low? If you thought they were good, you wouldn't want them traded. Do you really think you know something other teams don't?

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 01:13 PM) Montas, Micah Johnson and Avi are the 3 non-veterans that should absolutely be trade bait this offseason if they have value. Young guys struggle. If Soxtalk was around after Robin Ventura's rookie year, they probably would have demanded his head as a player even louder than as a manager. I don't understand the concept of this guy isn't going to be any good so the Sox should be able to get something decent for him. Other teams know the players probably better than most of us, with the possible exception of posters who watch a lot of minor league baseball, yet they aren't professional scouts. Selling low on prospects makes little sense to me.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 07:04 AM) Yeah, Josh Hamilton comps are hyperbole. I have never heard of a drug problem with the guy, unlike some of his teammates. I do thing is obvious he has an alcohol problem, and a problem making intelligent decisions. Isn't alcohol really a drug?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) I don't know who these guys are, or how accurate their information is, but this is worth sharing. http://www.niagarafallsreporter.com/Storie.../Sep22Final.pdf Maybe it was the goons he hangs out with. They did have his DNA under her nails and on her shoulder. It makes you think of several possibilities.

Samardjiza believes he was tipping pitches
His 2015 WHIP is actually lower than it was as a Cub. His K rate is down 1.5 from his Cub days. His walk rate is down 1.5 from his Cub days. He just was never really all that good. Football at ND and pitching for the Cubs apparently makes your reputation a lot better than your results.

Montas working with less velocity, more movement
Hopefully, Allen Thomas gets him on some sort of diet. If he was 185 when he signed, if something doesn't change, he is going to make Bartolo Colon look slim in a few years.

Sox sign Dayan Viciedo
LaRoche will be a White Sox next season. Viciedo will not.

In Defense of Jay Cutler
He also fumbles a ton, and has a knack for throwing INTs at the worst time. I went to the game Sunday. I had just said to my brother Cutler is having a really nice game when he threw the pick 6. He is obviously better than Claussen, and doesn't have a nice defense that can get him field position and take some pressure off having to score a ton of points to win. But he is what he is. The second you think he is doing well, something bad happens. It is a never ending occurrence.

Samardjiza believes he was tipping pitches
His location has been bad for most of the year.he has thrown a lot of meatballs, but if he thinks he was tipping his pitches, and changed something, that is good too. Whether he really was or not isn't relevant. He should be pitching with more confidence.

Montas working with less velocity, more movement
The other night he was throwing 97-98, got to 100 a few times, and froze a couple of guys with his slider. Make him a starter, but if that fails, this guy should be really good coming out of the bullpen.

Sox vs Tigers Game 1, 12:08 first pitch
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 02:32 PM) Good for Jeff, but let's not pretend it wasn't a September makeup game played by two teams playing out the last two weeks of a bad season. 13 left. 5-8 with four losses to the Tigers, please. The only pretenders are the people thinking Trace Thompson's performance the final 2 weeks of the season pulls any weight for 2016.

88 pitch complete game. That was impressive. Not even 10 pitches an inning.

Sox vs Tigers Game 1, 12:08 first pitch
QUOTE (bjm676 @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) This isn't exactly a quality lineup the Tigers are putting out. If the White Sox put out their worst line up and faced a guy going like Samardzija has been going, 1 hit and 80 pitches through 8 innings would bring a lot of complaints.

Sox vs Tigers Game 1, 12:08 first pitch
I would be shocked if Robertson is out there unless there is trouble with another game to play tonight.

Sox vs Tigers Game 1, 12:08 first pitch
Not one ball 3 count today.

Montas working with less velocity, more movement
He was throwing 100 the other night. I was impressed.

Sox vs Tigers Game 1, 12:08 first pitch
This should be reversed.

Sox sign Dayan Viciedo
Viciedo was signed to fill in at Charlotte. If the White Sox really were interested in a major league reunion, he would have been called up.

2015-16 NHL thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 20, 2015 -> 07:59 AM) I thought that they usually found traces of DNA even when guys used a condom, just from body contact I know is a show but I was watching one of those CSI shows once where the guy who murdered also raped and he used a rubber and was shaved bald down there. They couldn't get anything. I know it is just TV, and from what they supposedly could get DNA from, it does seem a little out there than none of his DNA would be anywhere in that area without a lot of cooperation from the accuser.

I hope the truth is Kane gets off because he didn't do anything criminal, not becuase it cannot be proved. He used a rubber. At least he was smart enough to do that.

Gammons thinks Shark gets QO
QUOTE (Saufley @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 06:10 PM) Who knows, maybe he would do better with both Ventura and Cooper not in the Sox dugout. Maybe not but who knows. I don't know if Robin is staying or leaving, but unless Coop gets a 9 month gout attack, there is no question he will be back. And there is a problem there. Even Heyman confirms.

Gammons thinks Shark gets QO
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 06:02 PM) There is precedent, both Stephen Drew and Kendrys Morales received QOs after decent seasons in 2013 and remained unsigned throughout all of spring training and the first couple months of the season, neither sent picks back to the teams that offered them the QO. Considering their performance after taking this route, I don't think anyone really wants to go down that road again.

Gammons thinks Shark gets QO
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 05:53 PM) Hypothetically, let's say the Sox have a payroll limit of $120 million. If they pick up Alexei and offer arbitration to people, then Samardzija puts them at or above their limit and they have to do the Alexei option right at the end of the season before they know anything about whether he'd accept. That could be a major motivation for them, depending on their forward-looking budget. If their limit is higher, then Samardzija could be "the only thing we do this offseason other than trades". That could also be a major motivation for them. (Personally, if I were in his spot, I think yes I'd accept. If he turns it down, my guess remains that he stays unsigned through June 15). So you would take 1 year $16 million instead of a guarantee probably more than triple for 3 or 4 years at the very least, to return to the scene of the crime? Either that is your doom and gloom the Sox won't even get a draft pick, or it is really reckless. Why would he want to work with Coop, someone he thinks is at least partially the problem, to try to fix him? He isn't coming back. I believe Kaplan who said no way he is coming back.
