  1. I have never liked hitters wearing shades.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 03:35 PM) That was a pretty tough play for Alexei, all he did was take a couple steps and it was so fast that was it. I can't be all that mad about that one. Yeah he should have taken 1 fewer step but a walking lead and an extra step on contact is pretty normal. Line drives have to go through, especally when it is right in frontof you. He should have been going back to the bag. There is zero way he should have been double off on a limer right at the second baseman unless he was running.
  3. Alexei has been a really good player. But he is pretty baseball dumb.
  4. What is interesting about this report is it was written by Mike Pazik who a couple weeks later would be named the Sox 3rd pitching coach of the 1995 season, replacing Don Cooper who was reassigned to the minor league staff.
  5. MJ wins $8.9 million jury award from Dominick's parent company. Will donate it to Chicago charities.
  6. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 08:05 AM) Actually I think the problem was they had Saladino, Sanchez, Davidson and Johnson all needing a year in AAA but only 3 positions. Maybe the front office figured the offense was questionable coming out of the spring and so they went w the offensive option in Johnson. Or they actually thought Johnson could play in the majors at that point since they also were questionable at 3rd in the spring. Either way, they started the year w some serious infield holes Sanchez is decent but players, especially young ones become very overvalued when they are hot, and undervalued when they are struggling. Patience is not something that is in excess here. Sanchez was written off earlier, should have been sent back to Charlotte. Now, he should have been the starter all along. 2 weeks from now, he may be deemed a top 5 2B in baseball or nothing more than a defensive replacement. Who really knows how he would have done if he was picked over Micah right away? Chances are he would have been sent down if he hit what he hit initially hereand maybe his success now has something to do with his success in Charlotte earlier. We really will never know. He isn't as good as this hot streak. He never was the .150 hitter he looked like earlier.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 02:53 PM) I can think of 1 major idea he probably doesn't like. (Rebuilding) But he did it with Himes, and a quick one with Schueler. Of course he has not a lot of time to waste. If does seem if Hahn is set on a rebuild and that isn't what JR wants, Hahn probably shouldn't be in his current position. JR does seem to be getting a little cranky in his old age.
  8. I believe Nightengale. I wonder why JR wants a buffer between himself and Hahn, and didn't ever need one with KW. He must not like some of his ideas. I also wonder if there is any chance KW winds up with his old job.
  9. Mike North will be hosting a 3 hour Bears postgame show on 97.1. He also will be talking NFL with Danny Mac on Fridays. Oh boy.
  10. Harry Volkman, whoosh, Tom Skilling before Tom Skilling dead at 89. He came to my grammar school back in the day to talk about weather.
  11. QUOTE (captain54 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 12:02 PM) Someone had a stat somewhere.. ( Maybe it was Lip) the Sox have lost 15 games this year where the the pitching staff has given up three runs or less over 9 inn… If this is accurate.. with any kind of even average offense and the Sox grabbing 7 of those games.. .they are @.500 and realistically in the hunt for WC 2… I think it's more or less a no brainer… no big news flash, Rick.. the FA approach to plug holes coupled with no young productive position players on the horizon has plunged this franchise into the dark ages… interesting to see if the Chicago Wolves top the White Sox in ST numbers in 2016... Actually, if they won 7 that they lost, they would be 7 over .500.
  12. For a joke my friend and I got the $14 cheap knockoff of these a few years ago on ebay to wear to an event at a game. I have a Chet Lemon, and compared to some of the other disaster counterfeit jerseys, the one I have is pretty spot on. The collar is slightly bigger, but everything else is fine. I will put it on next Thursday. Haven't sported it in about 5 years. I will throw on some blue shorts and really look good.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 09:49 AM) If LaRoche goes crazy and hits 9 hrs thru end of season for 20...how will we look back on his year? Horrid, unless a few of those lead to victories and a playoff berth. For everyone's sake, especially his, it would be nice if he can show he can still play, instead of hoping next spring he bounces back.
  14. I've caught myself calling Q Carlos several times. I think the Red Sox used to have a guy named Carlos Quintana.
  15. Give Friedman $300 million a year to play with and he becomes a hero worshipper.
  16. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 01:30 PM) And yet they didn't hire him. In fact, nobody has hired him. Makes you wonder who's right, you or those talk show hosts. Also, I was simply giving the perspective on KW from people in the sports industry outside Chicago. I'd say their analysis is pretty damn spot on. KW is a rich man's Jack Z and frankly that's nothing to brag about as Jack Z is one of the few GMs with a worse last 5 years then KW. The White Sox wouldn't let him interview. Chicago sports radio is irrelevant, so is Seattle's.
  17. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 01:11 PM) Yea exactly. Just a little tidbit from Seattle sports talk radio this morning they brought up the Nightengale story on KW possible to Seattle and both hosts were like "uh, no thanks we already have the slightly worse version of KW in Jack Z". I'm not sure how valued a commodity KW is anymore. His run of success is fading further and further into the past with each day. Toronto wanted to hire KW as their president last year. Seattle sports radio says KW sucks. Which one should we go with?
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 10:26 AM) So pretty much no matter what, Jerry will have to sign off on letting him talk to anyone else. Does that line up the potential for compensation when he is gone ala Theo? I would imagine, although KW mentioned he almost resigned last year. So maybe he can be done with it that way. As far as compensation, I don't think that would be an issue. I still think KW would rather stay and be given a higher title. Reading Toronto stuff, they think the President needs to be a business guy not a baseball guy. Maybe KW can do that, but if he is going to make their current baseball ops guys run away, I wonder why they would hire him.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 10:20 AM) So out of curiosity, does anyone know Kenny's contract situation? He is on a 1 year deal with an automatic rollover at some date. So he is always under contract for the current season and next. As for AA, it's pretty amazing how his stock has risen. He was praised last year for their offseason which didn't work out, and he started catching heat. This All Star break, they actually had a worse record than they did last All Star break, but he makes a couple moves that so far have worked really well, and he's back on the top of the mountain.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 08:10 AM) ? Their attendance last year was 32,000/game, this year it's ~35,000, their playoff years it was >40,000. For the White Sox, spending money to get into the playoffs would be a fine and successful plan and one I'd support. There is one small problem with the spending of money the White Sox did this year in execution of that plan. If Jon Lester isn't leading them into the playoffs regularly, then the $155 million they committed to him will never be paid for by making a WC this year. How does making a WC this year put an addition 5k in the seats 5 years from now? Lester has to perform. If the Cubs are worthy of selling out every game, and getting hundreds of millions for their TV rights, it is going to have to be more than Jon Lester. They are going to have to be paying these other guys huge money eventually, making Lester's contract an albatross. Ricketts did sell a portion of the team to help pay down the rehab costs. I do hope when you are complaining this winter when the Sox pay a lot of money to a hitter than you will note if they make the WC the contract should pay for itself.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 07:56 AM) For the Cubs, with their ballpark situation? Taking them back to filling that place plus the ticket brokers plus their new ad space plus yearly ticket price increases? Yeah, I think getting a wild card birth for them would be monstrous. Especially if they win and get the extra 3 game series. They're up about 3000 ticket sales over last year but unless they shrank their park in the renovations they have room for another 5000/game. Compile that over multiple years and that's Lester-level money just off the ticket sales... And that's without mentioning the fact that people are going to be tuning into their games on TV in couple years before their TV deal renews. They already fill the place. If anything, your theory should work better for the White Sox since they have more available seats. The White Sox are in the same boat with TV renewals. Why is spending money to try to win wrong for them if making a WC is worth $155 million? Everything you claimed how the Cubs would benefit applies to the other side of town, yet doom and gloom, doom and gloom, don't spend any money ever.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 07:39 AM) If they make the playoffs this year, frankly ahead of what seemed to be their expected schedule, that quick playoff appearance will probably be worth so much good press that it'll pay for Lester's contract on its own. So making a 1 game WC is worth at least $155 million now? LMAO, that isn't anywhere near what you post in every White Sox related post.
  23. The other thing that chaps my ass is while he is wearing a monitor, what is he still doing not in jail? Guys like IL governors go to jail for years, yet really aren't threats to society if not locked up. This guy clearly is.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 11:48 AM) Do you believe the 8th amendment is a mistake and that rape is an appropriate thing for the United States to be doing as punishment even unofficially? The fact that people defend this drives me nuts. Put him in jail for as long as his well paid legal team will allow. Rape is not a punishment. It is barbaric and it is something the country shouldn't be doing to anyone. It's not a joke and we're worse people because we treat it as such. So you are OK, and not embarrassed or sickened by punishment basically being determined by the quality of representation one can afford, instead of what they have done.
