QUOTE (black jack @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 09:44 AM) It's a pretty frustrating situation. Of course once the break cools them off, there will be plenty of time to sell everyone. White Sox winning is frustrating? Can't wait for them to cool off? Wow.

19 teams 2 games above .500 or worse. -
And he basically had no spring training. He got beat around a little bit after a good start this year, and I think not being able to pitch in soring training was the culprit. His overall numbers are obviously outstanding, but I am thinking if he doesn't hurt himself in March, they are probably even better.

As crazy as it seems, the Sox still have a shot. I know the old 7 or 8 teams they have to leapfrog for A WC berth, but 5 or 6 of those or only 2 games ahead. Get some offense, something might happen.

I don't think you count on Jones right away. If he works his way into an 8th inning guy, great. He hasn't pitched. Stsrt him out in some lowere leveredged situations other than the 8th and see how it goes. Some guys struggle when they come back. Some guys are great. Make him show you he's great.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) Rodon only threw 10 pitches too. If he can throw 12-14 pitches an inning consistently, he'll be really dangerous. I fully expect he will figure that out eventually, and he and Sale, as long as they remain healthy, can battle each other for Cy Youngs. He's nasty as it is. When he figures out how to stay ahead of hitters, IMO he is going to be unreal. -

That didn't take long. 8 minute 1st inning. -

Pitching to a pitcher could get Rodon an extra inning in this game. Should slightly help the pitch count. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) Yeah, but only 2 of those games were this season. Woulda been nice to give him a week there just to get the footing down. I wouldn't doubt he has been taking a lot of grounders at 3B before games for a little while. Obviously games are different, but there is not much difference between 8 games, 5 games, and 0 games. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 03:00 PM) IIRC they worked Gordon at 3b for like a week or two in Charlotte right before he was called up. He played 8 games there. Saladino has played 5. So really, they are in the same boat. He has primarily played SS so I don't think this should be a huge deal. If he is a decent SS, and I don't know where his throwing is at, he should be better than Gillaspie right now, and improve at 3B with more reps. But this isn't like putting Soto in LF. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 01:26 PM) We really do need a righty somewhere in this roster to take PAs away from LaRoche. That's the role I thought Semien would fill...then that became the role I thought Bonifacio would fill, because why else would you spend that much money on him after already signing Beckham? (Beckham, btw, was needed to be the RH platoon with Gillaspie, which was equally important to having a platoon partner for LaRoche) They signed Bonifacio before they signed Beckham. The fact is Beckham and Shuck outplayed him. People moan about guys like Flowers and Beckham and Sanchez and last season Leury Garcia, well, Bonifacio has been worse than all of them, yet there are complaints he isn't used "properly". If being used properly is not being used with the other guys, why wouldn't it apply here?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 01:21 PM) Money-wise the $4.5 million isn't crippling I agree, but it's enough that it's getting in the way. By 2017, we're talking what, $7-8 million, probably more with revenue growth? I'd have to imagine he's non-tendered if he's basically this same player at that point. Isn't it about what they are paying Keppinger to play in a beer league? Avi has his warts, but there is potential, and they guy seems willing to give a big effort. He isn't much of a problem right now or the next couple of years.
-
Bonifacio is a bench player so you take what you can get. If he hits .280, it will be one of the most inconsistent .280s in the league. Look at his game logs. 85-90% of the season he hits like a pitcher.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 01:08 PM) I'm pretty sure the first post explained the way you wind up needing to use him? Not really. You don't know when the hot streak is going to happen. If he gets a couple of hits, it probably is a sign to keep him in the line up a few days, but if he is not hitting at all, it isn't unusual.
-
The RV doesn't know how to use him is pure BS. He has a ..344 OPS against LHP, a .332 OPS vs. RHP, his glove has been horrible. RV not playing him IS USING HIM PROPERLY.
-
The thing about Bonifacio is he usually is pretty weak for long stretches, but goes on an amazing hot streak or 2 which keeps his numbers respectable.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 12:10 PM) I know many of you have suggested it is corresponding to our pitching roster moves but is there any chance this is a move ahead of a trade that is about to be done? There's always a chance. I am sure they will carry another pitcher after the break.
-
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 12:05 PM) That's true. However, Bonifacio never plays, so what's the point of having him on the team? There's no reason to have a guy rotting away on the bench when they never play. If Gillaspie isn't going to play 3B, he will appear in games about as often as Bonifacio has. Maybe they could get something for Conor. For EB, nothing. I think they would be better off with a 25 year old in A ball with a 4,75 ERA who throws 99 and Bonifacio on the bench, th

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 11:10 AM) I agree with you. he needs to show more power though. I don't know if it shows up this season, but in the past he has a groundball rate you would expect from Juan Pierre. If he could get the ball in the air more, he could probably hit is as far as anybody.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 11:57 AM) More and more I get the feeling that Bonifacio is next. Maybe, but I am starting to get the feeling Gillapsie is next. They obviously don't like to put him in the field anymore. At least Bonifacio can PR.
-
QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 09:07 AM) I'm not even concerned with him remaining a core player. Core players usually do something well. We've got lots of holes to fill and at this point I consider right field one of them. And if we jettisoned LaRoche and moved Avi to DH, I'd consider DH one of them. I am sure the front office doesn't feel the same way and he'll get his shot as long as they can fall back on his youth. Stone said the other day Avi was 5th in the AL in velocity coming off his bat. As down as some people are on him, there is potential there. If he gets balls in the air, he could be a monster.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 08:21 AM) I'd rather watch Davidson fail for the 1st time than Beckham for the 5th time. There is still a 0.1% chance that Davidson can be a everyday MLB player. That percentage is dead zero for Gordon. Then if you get your wish, don't complain about the White Sox calling up players when they are not ready or ever rushing them, because that is exactly what you want them to do. Just because you would rather watch Davidson strike out rather than Beckham doesn't mean it is the correct move. And if Davidson is a late bloomer, calling him up before he is ready, isn't going to help him bloom. Let him flail away in Charlotte until he shows he is ready, not call him up because the major league team is lacking. If more of the same continues, you can call him up in September when the games don't mean anything and maybe he gets a couple of hits. Or just wait until next spring. Calling him up now and having him strike out more often than Adam Dunn does him and the White Sox absolutely no good.
