Attendance 2015
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 08:40 AM) The Blue Jays had under 30,000 at home on a Friday night against the Royals (Cueto starting, too) with all of the momentum in the world behind them this week, the trades for Tulo/Price, "best offense in the game 1-6," etc. Just like the Sox, teams that have been losing for many years (going back to the World Series teams in the early 90's), it takes time for the fans to jump back on board and trust the organization again 100%. The Royals only draw more than Toronto and the White Sox on the road. Johnny Cueto isn't a road draw. as I have stated many times, walk up tickets aren't as big as they used to be. Most have their seats far in advance.

Send down Rodon and Call up EJ
QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 08:36 AM) I'm not for sending him down, but Rodon was lousy last night. Hawk tried to make excuses because of a missed called strike three, but I'm not buying it. His control/command/location is awful. It was a missed pitch and it did lead to the scoring 5 runs, whether thwt would have made a difference last night, that is up for debate. They still got him in other parts of the game. That one pitch though is interesting. If Flowers catches, known as the better framer, does he get that pitch, and does it potentially save 5 runs?

White Sox make no trades at the deadline.
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 09:51 PM) How many years do we have to appease these f***ing people by keeping a flawed team entact to avoid screams of White Flag!? I would have White Flagged this team even if we were tied for the wild card. However our front office lacks convinction and cares about further affecting an already meger attendance. You make it sound like they turned down an entire team's elite propsects for Samrdzija. What was out there? I would think his return would have been similar to Leake's. Is that really a franchise changer vs. the comp pick?

Send down Rodon and Call up EJ
QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 07:25 AM) Care to discuss? Right from the start, most people felt that he could have spent a couple more months in the minors. His WHIP has been in the 1.50 range for 2 months now. His walk rate is absurd, and he's a two pitch starter with poor command on those pitches and no confidence in his third pitch. Throw in the fact that EJ is ready for a promotion, and now with Shark staying, we have the luxury of letting Rodon develop a bit more in the minors. So no, I don't think this is based on overreaction to one particular start. If the moment a rookie struggles he needs to be sent to the minors, there wouldn't be a league. He was awesome the outing before last and has had the typical rookie struggles. He is workimg with Coop on his change up. No need to send him down, and no need to think Johnson would be any better.

The Disappointment Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 07:01 PM) a sub-.500 club has no room to complain about moving a guy who's been here for a little more than half a season and will likely be gone by next year anyway They have had a good month. Pulling the plug right when they get back into it is not a good message.

The Disappointment Thread
Look what Detroit gor for Cespedes. A top 100 prospect with an ERA under 2.00 plus another guy. The Sox would have had to trump that. It doesn't make sense for a 60 game rental. No one was willing to pay SD prices, so Upton didn't make sense either. Trading Shark, unless it was a deal you couldn't say no is kimd of slapping the rest of the roster in the face. Maybe a waiver claim if they win a couple of more series will make some sense.

The Disappointment Thread
Since prospects suck and should be traded for 2 month rentals, why does KW get so much crap around here?

The Disappointment Thread
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 03:22 PM) If you want to sum it up. The front office just said f*** the playoff spot. That's really what happened here. Exactly. They said f*** the fans, especially those idiots on Soxtalk. Let's piss them off and do nothing and hopefully start a nice losing streak.

The Disappointment Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 03:16 PM) Zero. He will be blocked and a trade won't be worked out to anyone's satisfaction. The only way he could get through is with an onerous contract. Why would a non playoff team block him? And a team in contention might be willing to trade something for him. If not, there's a draft pick which everyone seems to hate, although they also hate signing established MLB players and giving up lower picks than the one the Sox will receive. You don't know the offers, so why don't you just stop this act trying to get the complainers going for just one day?

The Disappointment Thread
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) You either buy or sell. Either you think you can make the postseason and strengthen that thought by adding a bat or you sell because you don't think you have enough. Don't just sit there and think we have enough, because honestly we don't. The one time the Sox won the WS, they added Geoff Blum who wasn't a big add at the time. Became one in one AB, but other than that one AB was pretty insignificant. I am not comparing this team to that one, but the deals have to make sense. We can all be disappointed, but if we don't know the cost to add or the offer to sell, it's all complaining perhaps about something you would be complaining about not happening.

Glad they didn't overpay for Cespedes. His price to the White Sox would have been higher than what they would have taken from the Mets. Hung on to Shark, mixed emotions. If the last week was for real, or at least semi-real, this team is going to win games. All in all, pretty surprised at nothing though.

Cespedes to the Mets according to Levine
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 03:02 PM) Between Sale last night, Billy Pierce passing away, all the moves other teams made to improve themselves, Detroit getting a lot stronger for next season compared to a week ago...all of the excitement about the last two months of the season has kind of gone out of the balloon. The excitement the last 2 months of the season? LMAO.

Cespedes to the Mets according to Levine
If the situation was reversed, and the packages were similar, I am sure Hahn would trade a guy like Cespedes to the Mets rather than the Tigers. Just be happy the Sox didn't overpay a divison rival for a rental.

Sox Looking at Upton
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) All indications are the #Padres have nothing happening on Justin Upton. It appears he's staying put at deadline. https://twitter.com/jcrasnick/status/627195732957769728 Pay him to play meaningless games. That's a pretty expensive draft pick to hang on to. OTOH, considering this GM is pretty new, it would show others he won't cave at the end. Still , using these guys to try to increase the offer isn't exactly new.

Sox Looking at Upton
I think the KU kid had the color of his Sox mixed up. The Cubs, Padres and Red Sox were supposedly discussing 3 ways (and some trades as well).

Cespedes to the Mets according to Levine
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:12 PM) They could always work out an extension before the end of the year. Yes, but this close to free agency doesn't make too much sense to pass that up. Especially when it is Detroit, because no matter what, Detroit sucks and always will.
-
Cespedes to the Mets according to Levine
Might as well wait until the last second and call some bluffs.

Cespedes to the Mets according to Levine
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) It's hard to believe that Cespedes won't move when the Tigers moved Price and Cespedes won't return a draft pick. Not only that but if they want Cespedes back next season, he has to be on another team.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 01:59 PM) I'm guessing Nightengale is getting pestered by White Sox fans and decided to just throw out a hollow update I think you are probably correct.

Cespedes to the Mets according to Levine
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) What scares me about that tweet is Nightengale has a very good Sox source, so our FO might actually think that this is an issue when they have Leury Garcia rotting on the bench. Have you ever heard of a team not upgrading because they "have no room" on their roster? It is not even a consideration.

Cespedes to the Mets according to Levine
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) The #WhiteSox would love to add a bat, but unless they move position player off their 25 man roster, they have no room. https://twitter.com/BNightengale/status/627189253835862016 How did we not catch that earlier? Well then, this deadline is OVA If that is real, Nightengale must be on Quaaludes and gin.

White Sox Need to be careful
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 01:42 PM) One other thing to think about...we are only .5 a game ahead of Texas who added Cole Hamels (and Hamilton is back healthy...no clue what that will actually mean but he's back). Not saying they are contenders, just saying, as currently constructed (and within a crazy run) they are only .5 game back of us and just added Cole Hamels. Their are a hell of a lot of teams around the Sox in the standings who have upgraded pretty significantly. The White Sox upgraded this offseason, and that didn't exactly pay immediately. I wouldn't be too worried about other teams' upgrades. If you think your team is an 85 win team, or should be with an addition, I think you go for it. If not, sell Shark, maybe get a Napoli for nothing, and see what happens.
