  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 09:20 PM) Only 18,000+? That's not a good crowd for June, even for a Tuesday night. Guess there aren't many closet Astros/Correa and/or top prospect followers in Chicagoland. Petricka coming in next inning. I guess, in all fairness, the Twins and Astros aren't drawing that well and they're both in first place. Haven't you told us 100 times why no one goes to games? Now you can't complain about them winning 2-0, so mention the attendance. Again.
  2. SoSoto is hitting .294/.368/.353 vs. LHP, a really hot lefty is facing the Sox but the b****ing continues because Gillaspie, LaRoche, Sanchez, and Shuck are riding pine vs. a lefty?
  3. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 01:31 PM) That's kind of a sad for a 4th round pick. I think your expectations of 4th round picks are a bit high. The White Sox have 2 4th round picks out of 50 that have put up at least a 1.0 WAR for them for their career.
  4. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 12:11 PM) you can say all that, but it still has an element of luck. I just think they picked bad players. In 2004 they had 7 picks in the first 89. Fields, Lumsden,Gio, Whisler, Lucy, Liotta, Hansen. Gio turned out great for another team after trading him twice. All the others were pretty much junk. Not even replacement level players. That, IMO, is bad scouting.
  5. I wanted Fulmer all along, but after reading all the post draft fluff, I'm even more tickled.
  6. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 07:28 PM) to tell you the truth, i can't remember much from that era. but again, look at the talent level, how can you compare those guys to a Jared Mitchel, Josh Phegley, Aaron Poreda, Gordon Beckham. No, but the term rushed is overblown IMO.
  7. When Himes drafted McDowell, Ventura, Thomas, and Fernandez, no one complaned they were rushed.
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 06:56 PM) Would be something the sox f***ed the cubs over two straight years in picks. (although Schwaber looks really good) Apparently they like Fulmer alot. Payback for when the Cubs drafted Mike Harkey who the Sox wanted so they had to settle for Jack McDowell, and the time the Cubs looking for a 3B for years drafted Ty Griffin so the Sox had to settle for Robin Ventura with the next pick.
  9. Ar least Bud won't be doimg the draft anymore. We don't have to hear him say the Los Angeleees Angels of Anaheim.
  10. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 03:05 PM) Stephenson is considered a bat that can catch. His bat is considered good enough to profile in the OF or CI. The dig on Flowers was that his defense was subpar and he may not have the hit tool to play another position. His power was there but too much swing an miss. Stephenson is more along the lines of a guy like Will Myers or Alex Jackson from last years draft as a high school catcher that has a bat that can carry him. Alex Jackson is Courtney Hawkins this year.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 02:33 PM) Trout didn't have any ridiculous demands associated with him, at least not that I was aware of. I think ultimately Trout got slightly more than Mitchell. Nothing that would make a difference.
  12. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 02:27 PM) I wish they could get a hitter. Like Benintendi or Stephenson. Remember when Tyler Flowers was considered a hitter? He was Kris Bryant in the fall league and came to the Sox and hit .300 with .400 OBP with power in AA and AAA. Then suddenly he couldn't hit. Catchers scare me. Most of them can't hit. Maybe the demands of the job, not just the beatings they take, just take it's toll. I am very leery of HS catchers. There is so much they have to achieve just running the game and the beatings, where predicting offense is very difficult.
  13. And any b****ing about Beckham being rushed is kind of ruined by how he performed in 2009. Maybe they should have sent him down in a subsequent season or two, but he did win Sporting News ROY, and only a shortage of playing time cost him that official honor.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 02:11 PM) At least in the 0's, we had the philosophy of taking the guy close to the big leagues because they could contribute faster or be traded faster. That ended us up with broadway & mccullough. For all we know that might have been part of the reason why we got 3-year-college player Jared Mitchell instead of that other OF named Mike who went a couple slots later. And since you brought up Beckham, that hits on the "rush them up to the big leagues as fast as humanly possible" philosophy that permeates this team's minor leagues and whether that's been as effective as it needs to be too. The very first 1st round pick under KW the GM was Honel, a HS pitcher. Mitchell certainly wasn't rushed. Beckham may have been, but he pretty much conquered AAA pretty quickly. If you want to complain about guys like Broadway, that is legitimate, but also a long time ago. And using "might have been part of the reason" certainly does not make it the reason. I agree, the Sox should have taken Trout, but I don't think it's because they thought Mitchell would be here sooner. They thought he would be a better player.
  15. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) Wait, this has nothing to do with Gene Honda right? No, they cut to her in between innings. She seems pretty good at her job.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) JMO - this type of "short term thinking" is a key part of how we have gotten ourselves into this mess. Sale and Rodon haven't been the problem. You could say something about Beckham, but it's not like all the guys drafted right after him became stars.
  17. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 01:01 PM) Bowden is absolutely clueless I think most of these guys are clueless. Last year we read how much Cooper loved Aiken, how much the Sox loved Kolek, yet Hahn said, and he might have been BSing, that Rodon was the one guy they wanted all along, which made a lot of sense considering how leery they seem to be about HS pitching in round 1. Hahn did mention before that draft on a broadcast that Rodon was the best pitcher in college.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 12:51 PM) interesting draft, seems like anybody can go anywhere and it's not even because of signability. That is one nice thing about this draft. Every mock is different, even at the top. NFL, NBA, you can pretty much tell who the top 20 guys will be in a halfway decent sequence, but here a guy who some might have going #1 might not go until #10.
  19. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 12:48 PM) I think they end up with Illinois LHP Tyler Jay All the lefties. Stone did say he thought Jay could be in a major league bullpen this season, and the Sox could use another lefty. Then have him work on getting stretched out this winter and go back to the minors.
  20. I am not for the Sox going under slot to save money for later rounds. In their history of 4th round selections, the team has only drafted 2 players that have put up more than a 1.0 total WAR for their team. Baldwin and Thigpen.
  21. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 12:34 PM) The Astros went under slot in 2012 and drafted Correa at #1, McCullers in the 2nd, and Preston Tucker in the 5th. Often a sound strategy if there are similar players at the top. Yes, but to lessen the talent of the #8 overall pick to be able to throw more money at a 4th round guy isn't that sound IMO, unless you have a guy rated high that no one else does and know they will sign cheap.
  22. Can't hit or field. Sign him up. .660 OPS in the PCL is a bit discouraging. The guy from fangraphs who used to love this guy, now works for the Astros and they DFA'd him. That's pretty much all you need to know.
  23. Melky hit a rope his first AB yesterday, of course right at 'em. I think it wore on him the rest of the game, as he was pretty putrid his other ABs.
  24. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 10:54 AM) If the Sox did pick him, where would Eaton go in a few years when Benintendi is in the Big Leagues? You never worry about that. It is very rare a good player can't crack a line up because of no room.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 10:51 AM) I'd bet dollar to donuts that Samardjiza doesn 't have an era of 5 at the end of the year. dollars to donuts isn't a good bet anymore.
