Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
Cespedes only cost the White Sox money. That is why I want him. Give him an opt out after year one if need be.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 12:43 PM) I'm still waiting for the Cardinals to get in on the action. I think they trade for a Colorado outfielder and sign Gallardo.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 07:45 AM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/01/padr...des-market.html Padres monitoring the Cespedes market now. Once again the White Sox are not getting the bargain that people think they will get. At a bargain price teams will jump back in the pool and drive the price up to a realistic number which will be around 5/$100 with an opt out after the second year. Teams don't really bid against themselves what they do is provide a number that they feel will get them the player they want at the cost that they feel the player will take. This was what he cubs did with Heyward. I really hope the White Sox are not sitting around think they can get him for 3/$60 or something like that.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
When Cespedes signs his contract it will be a terrible contract. The White Sox are not getting him on the cheap or for some OMG what a steal type deal. If that deal is on the table other teams will get involved as he has some value at that point and everyone can use value. My issue is that the White Sox have some great bargains in Abreu, Quintana and Sale. As this season looks right now the great contracts will be wasted for another year. One bad contract will not kill them but they once again seem to be tentative in pulling the trigger. Does Cespedas add the wins needed... potentially, who knows, but you don't win awards for having the best contracts in baseball. Fowler, Jackson, Pearce all add some value but at this time the White Sox are looking to waste another year of the cost controlled players they so cherish. They either take on a bad contract or remain where they are and watch the circus that is Avi Garcia mindlessly running around the outfield and on the bases. They chose not to rebuild so at some point this year or next they need to sign some talent. The cost of winning keeps going up .

I just saw that Steve Avery's first wife is married to Brendan Dassey's father. You know, the guy that was married to Steve Avery's sister. Also the first six years of the first sentence was for the assault on his sister (or cousin whatever it was) that was kind of brushed over in episode one.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 03:18 PM) I think I would too depending on what they get done in FA. They really should be able to get a lot done through FA. Sign an ILB, throw Timu or Shea next to him as a placeholder. If Shea is doing anything other than special teams on day one of camp, this off season is a failur. The guy simply cannot react soon enough at the ILB position.

When stone and farmer miss games I wonder if Jason takes them.

Sox interested in Carlos Gonzalez
Gomez and Cargo would be salary moves and I think each should be had for Garcia and that's about it. Gomez maybe another piece but nothing major. A three way deal with the Astros and Braves could work with Garcia being a sweeten to the Braves and impacts Houston system a little less.

Kasper and thee lady that did the MLB playoff game seem to think they are talking at a Fangraphs conference when they are doing the game. I would bet less than 10% of the viewing public knows what BABIP means. The medium is between Kasper and Hawk and that is Pat Hughes.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 07:15 AM) The ending of an era. It really makes me sad to think that the guy who has been the soundtrack of my fanhood is leaving. I like the idea that God willing in 30 years he could still be the White Sox announcer.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 07:49 AM) OSU was the best I saw all year by far. You should never bother trying to run a kick out of the end zone against OSU. Clemson is bad, but not too far from the norm. The simple answer to this is that OSU and Bama have guys on special teams that would be starters on just about any other team in the nation. The talent level is so deep there.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 04:46 PM) I kind of wanted to see if Caldwell would be fired to see if Jim Bob Cooter would be available. But yes, anxious for new QB coach. Fox's strength is his ties around league. When was last time a bears assistant was promoted to head coach? Ryan? (I don't think Rivera counts because we fired him for Bob Babich) My guess with all of the OC turnover for the Bears and Cutler this was a move to keep continuity. The Lovie Smith coaching tree is not vast that is for sure.

While Hossa is aging and the contract will be a drag, I think he does things off the ice that helps the team to be better and will always be worth the contract.

2015-2016 NFL Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 09:53 AM) No. Nobody is going to look at the Bucs firing their head coach to promote their coordinator and say "Bears should have done that". That is not my point. The Bucs recognized that they need a stable offensive minded coach for Winston and they see the guy they want. If they lose the OC, now Winston has a new OC, which would be the third in three years under Lovie there....although Tedford was for medical reasons The Bears will have their third in three years as well and no coach will have been the OC for Cutler for more than two years and will be the 7th in 8 years. There is an article about this out there http://sportsmockery.com/2015/11/chicago-b...-of-sadness/11/ I DO NOT THINK THE BEARS SHOULD FIRE FOX FOR GASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do understand why the Bucs did fire Lovie for an offensive minded coach.

Ken Griffey gets 99.32% of Hall of Fame vote. Highest ever.
Am I alone in liking the history that nobody gets 100%? Griffey certainly was a great player but for him to be the only player to ever get 100% kind of doesn't feel right. The story that he was the only player to ever get 100% would be.....I don't really know how to explain it.

2015-2016 NFL Thread
QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 08:29 AM) One of the big Bucs writers and local radio host here in Tampa is saying Lovie was never asked to change his staff. It has to be about not wanting to lose Koetter. Sounds like Koetter was going to get a HC job somewhere and the Bucs don't want to lose that relationship between him and Winston. Maybe Mike Smith as his DC. This makes sense and is something the Bears should have done to protect Cutler. The Bears carousel of coaches on the offensive side of the ball and hiring defensive minded coaches sans the buffoon Treastman has led to a constant state of flux. Now Gase is gone and in comes a new offensive guy. It seems the offense changes annually.

Official "Making a Murderer" Thread
Brendan Dassey is somehow the forgotten part of this whole story. He is the one that basically had no legal representation and was screwed over royally by those that originally represented him. He was also convicted of a greater number of charges. Avery also had top notch attorneys compared to Dassey. The lack of DNA evidence in the trailer is the compelling thing in this case. Then the testimony of the niece and Dassey swing me back the other way that something did happen. I think the forensic investigation was a joke as well. Here is the Avery story from my point of view on the blood and key. All he has to say is that her car would not start after she took the photos. He cut his hand working the garage. He took her car into the garage to jump start it and put the key in his pocket. The key had no other keys so it could have been a spare. I found the fact there were no other keys on the chain odd. Also the fact her DNA was not on the key was even more odd. She had that key with her but never used it.
