  1. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 04:13 PM) Interesting that Dan Hayes is now saying if the Sox add an OF that it doesn't mean Avi would be the odd man out. Just weird that he's went from all but ruling out a move to finding a place for Avi to get at bats. He can go to minors and try and improve his game down there and then be a DH next season or an injury replacement this season.
  2. Rotate Danks and Buehrle. Have one of them pitch every three or four days. A quasi six man rotation. One can be a leftie out of the pen. Throw Johnson agaisnt teams that hit soft tossing lefties well and then you cna pair them up agsint he Royals and teams taht don't hit soft tossing lefties. Roll Quintana and Sale every fifthe day and you can skip Rodon a time a or two. There done. In reagrd to my other post. In Lawrie the Sox gave up defense for offense, something I am not certain is a good idea.
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 08:15 AM) It wasn't an unsuccessful offseason just because Gordon and Cespedes went back to their teams though. I really don't think it'll be a tense environment at SoxFest. I'm not positive that they're done adding from the way they are talking and this team is much improved from a year ago. My issue with this off-season is they got Lawire who would play third, then they got Frazier who moves Lawrie to second. If the plan was to upgrade third and second without addressing RF, the offseason is a failure. The defense was atrocious last year. Frazier is up grade, Lawrie is a downgrade and the worst defender is still in RF. Lawire move kind of gets me as those players traded could have been used to upgrade RF. Sanchez and a new RF is an upgrade over Lawrie and Garcia.
  4. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 04:18 PM) They did an animated series in the early 90's. I think for the most part, TV shows based off movies don't do real well. Fargo seems to be one of the few exceptions. The tv show M*A*S*H laughs at you.
  5. Not to sound like a crotchety old man but this is not a logo picked up in the 80's, it goes back to the black and white unis of the 70's. I like this look and may have to buy the hat.
  6. I am fine with Saladino and anyone not named Avi in RF I see no potential move where New shortstop and Avi makes sense
  7. Players age much more gracefully in hockey as compared to any other sport and the physicality of hockey seems to have gone down over time.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) Ya the Saladino one is the one that surprises me most. I think our catchers managed correctly are above average so not surprised there but I think those projections are a bit optimistic on Tyler. Nice to see though. But yes, go get an outfielder please. Please. Please. Defense and speed add to Saladino's projection. Kind of the anti-Avi I'd be curious to see where Sanchez would fit at SS or 2B.
  9. Bears Dolphins would have been a great super bowl that year.
  10. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 09:37 AM) I was looking for a new show to watch and Netflix kept recommending Peaky Blinders to me. A BBC show about a 1919 gang outside of London. I gave it a shot and I have to say I really, really enjoyed the first season. Only 6 episodes, an hour a piece. Pretty great for being relatively short. There's a 2nd season on Netflix and they just wrapped filming on season 3. About to begin watching this.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2016 -> 02:45 PM) Brian Hedger ‏@BrianHedger 22m22 minutes ago Versteeg told @NHLCanes video reporter Toews is his favorite #Blackhawks chirp. "He's just a big baby, really. He's just an overgrown baby." The saying takes one to know one sounds like the proper retort to that clown.
  12. I saw something somewhere about her key and how there were no other keys on the key chain and a photo of her with a lanyard withe a series of keys on it. I really felt that was odd and never brought up.
  13. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 25, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) His agent could be banking on big spenders like the Yanks and Dodgers getting into the mix as well. I tknow the Yanks have salary coming off the books after '16 and if the Dodgers can move salaries like Ethier and/or Crawford, they could be in there as well. Maybe even Boston after Papi retires or if they can move one of Panda or Ramirez. The Angels will have CJ Wilson's 20M salary coming off the books after '16 as well. That's four teams known to be big spenders that weren't in the mix for Cespedes. Next year should be a much different story. and not much free agent talent to bid on.
  14. The bat is not the problem with him actually. The guy is a terrible fielder and somehow the the dumbest base runner I have ever seen. Those inabilities on the baseball field carry over to the batter's box where he has no ability to recognize a pitch, despite Hawk thinking he was the greatest hitter of all time at doing something...I think it was hitting a pitch you should never swing at and hitting it to RF. This was a massive failure by White Sox scouting.
  15. I just don't want avi in RF put him in the minors and see if he can learn
  16. Avi is serviceable as a hitter. The fact the guy cannot figure out how to run the bases and his defense is abysmal is why the future is not really bright with him around.
  17. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 03:05 PM) This does feel sooo much like Lebron. In this thread but does anyone that is not a Mets or White Sox fan really even care about this?
  18. QUOTE (staxx @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 04:50 PM) "Hello Mr. Hahn and Mr. Alderson, we have this offer, care to beat it" Neither Mets or Whtie Sox are giving 5/$110M and the agent knows that. My guess is Sox will go 4/$80M and the Mets something shorter.
  19. also this thread is 800 pages long because it has become more or less a White Sox catch all for the last few weeks.
  20. QUOTE (WSkid @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 03:15 PM) Sadly Sox Fans remember all to well Tory Hunter all but signed and Angels came in and JR choking on his Turkey at Thanksgiving. We are being bombarded with 3 years only and we believe it because we know what it is that makes JR Shrek tick.$$$$ We are used to losing during Shrek`s reign as owner. You do know JR does not sign players right? My guess is Hahn has the money but does not think 5/$100M for Cespedas is worth the investment. If he signs for 4/$80 then there can be a debate. I want the White Sox to have a philosophy and stop with the every now and then All In mantra. You are either in or you are out as your organizational premise. Figure it out and follow through with it. Stop pissing on my shoes and telling me it is raining.
  21. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 03:10 PM) Does the fact that they struck gold with Abreu offset this? Imagine the team if they were not shrewd enough to sign him. You just can't look at the negatives. No FO is going to hit on all transactions. You need to weigh the positives and negatives together. That's why the teams that are consistently the best develop their own. The true price they are paying is from not developing their own players. They have developed and have good deals for pitching which is why they have a leg to stand on. They have failed on hitting. Davidson and Avi were MLB ready hitters they traded for. Both have major flaws that should have been seen by decent scouts. The fact Avi was sold as a potential center fielder leads me to hope whoever gave them that idea was either from anther team or is unemployed. The inability to develop hitting needs to be addressed but until they figure that out, a bad contract is what they need to deal with...actually a couple bad contracts. The White Sox do not spend on player development and as such either have a couple bad contracts or hope to get lucky. When the AL central sucked (early 2000's) they could get away with this but not anymore and over the last few seasons it has caught up to them.
  22. This contract is a bad contract the minute he signs it. You can either spend money there or on scouting and draft/international players with value. The fact Avasail Garcia is terrible at baseball is what is killing the White Sox. This as well as a neglect of prospect resources is where the White Sox have failed miserably over the recent years. A replacement level RF is what they need.
  23. I think Mr Panik will not be around by this evening or at least a healthy scratch for quite some time.
  24. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) If they dont sign Cespedes I would think its because he received a bigger deal than even Upton got. The Sox just misjudged the market and thought these guys were going to have less teams that needed them along with coming down to their price range. It was terrible judgement. As I stated numerous times this is poor management if that is the case. This is not a retail store. If the deal for Cespedes is " a good deal" other teams will catch wind of this becasue it is a good deal and drive up the price. Teams do not necessarily bid against themselves they offer an amount to end the process. The cubs offered a bid that was greater tahn what any other team would offer especially with the buyouts and the deal was done. The White Sox appear to be holding out hope that no other team can use Cespedes and he will agree to give them the deal that Sale and Quintana did. Who knows maybe there is a deal to bring Jayson Werth home to Illinois on a buy low deal.
  25. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:42 AM) Avi is a very logical platoon with LaRoche. If they sign another OF, I nearly guarantee you that Avi will DH against LHP and get an occasional start in the OF. Unless he is somehow traded. They then have two DH's which they will not have. Avi will play next season in the minors to work on his fielding and general baseball IQ. Avi as a platoon DH and 4th outfielder is a poorly constructed roster. They need to figure out if he can actually play every day.
