2012-2013 Official NHL thread

Why doesn't hockey eliminate all contact with the head. It is not like football where the essence of the game is to get the other player to the ground. You hit a guy in the head, automatic 5 games. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 13, 2013 -> 11:09 AM) Yes, the PP needs to improve, and last night's failure in OT was maddening. But to answer your question, 2 years ago it was 4th in the league. While they do not miss Campbell , they do miss that type of defenseman. That was never more evident than the 4 on 3 rotation of four forwads standing around playing catch. In regards to physicality. The start of the San Jose game was a good game for that discussion. The Blackhwaks are benefiting right now from team continuity. Hopefully it carries into the playoffs. -
I will still say Jerry Angelo was great at drafting until Lovie Smith got his big contract after the Super Bowl and then had a say in personnel decisions. Angelo was very good at drafting players and then all of a sudden he could no longer do it.

Official Recruiting Thread II

QUOTE (Boogua @ Feb 6, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) Disgusting class. Whoever wins "The Game" over the next few years will probably have a spot in the national title game. Ohio State and Michigan (especially Ohio State) just look head and shoulders above everybody else in the B1G right now. Nobody else has a recruiting class even in the top 15. This is probably good for the conference overall. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 6, 2013 -> 08:41 AM) Good to see you guys making them know that the lockout won't be tolerated! I do not care enough about hockey to boycott it, if that makes any sense. Glad it is back as it is more entertaining than basketball and is a nice way to get sports entertainment between football and baseball. -
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jan 28, 2013 -> 05:03 PM) So my (and my friends) wife bought us each a Xmas gift that neither of us are interested in using. Was wondering if anyone here would be interested in buying it? It's the 8-lap qualifier, Rusty Wallace racing experience at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet. More info on the experience can be found here. http://racewithrusty.com/experiences.php If interested, please send me a message. You bastard I thought you would love that gift.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 29, 2013 -> 12:22 PM) Mr. Thomas. May I ask why you say "no doubt about it" every 3.6 seconds? Because he was a freak of nature physically and would be the focal point of PED's if he did not deny it every 3.6 seconds.

2012-2013 Sox off season Catch-All thread

The White Sox logo especially the hat has been a popular item to change it now would be dumb IMHO. The older blue and red pinstripe ones were great but from the late 70's to 1990 all of the uniforms sucked. -
Watched game of thrones last week. Wish I watched in real time as to discuss. Had two day jury duty and watched 12 episodes. In the last year I have watched, breaking bad, mad men, got, walking dead and hell on wheels. Not sure when was the last time I watched a move Watching the wire now. Love Netflix, HBO go and the good ole DVR.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jan 27, 2013 -> 09:48 AM) Side note, CSN please fix your road audio so Pay and Eddie don't sound like they are in a phone booth. Are penalty times not being shown an issue as well. Was really confused during a stretch last night. -
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 24, 2013 -> 03:47 PM) It's crazy that Jeff Hostetler won a Super Bowl. He had barely even played any games at that point. Vince Feragamo and Hostetler are the only two guys to start less games than Kapernick and make the super bowl.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 24, 2013 -> 04:24 PM) Shaun Marcum to the Mets in 1 year deal I have an unreasonable love for Shaun Marcum... I have no idea why... but I've always kept an eye out for him fantasy baseball wise, because he always gives great value for his draft position. Should do well in Citi Field. Becasue he was part of the Rogers Centre pitchers that almost no hit the Sox every game for three straight years up there. -
The cat that did the Folger's commercial from the Bengals in the early 80's, Kenny Anderson, rivaled only by Jeff Hostetler.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 22, 2013 -> 09:39 PM) Kaner looks energized. Hope he keeps it up Mentioned during the game that his little stint at center to start he season last year could have negatively impacted him for the whole season. -
Jordan took away the other teams will to win, ask Patrick Ewing Maybe LeBron James will get to that point, physically he is more impressive than Jordan.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 24, 2013 -> 09:13 AM) LoLakers After the airing of grievances was there a feats of strength challenge?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 11:31 AM) How is hiring a guy who might well not even be allowed to coach...a good idea? Hiring a guy that has actually accomplished something in the NFL to me is a good idea as the organization right now has little of it from decision making positions. I could get behind it if these were young up and coming guys getting their shot but none of them are.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 06:18 PM) CTL just said if Arians was hired, Whisenhunt would have bee the OC and Russ Grimm the line coach. While that sounds really promising not sure it would have worked well. The Defensive Coordinator hire will make or break this move. All moves those far have been cheap. They need to make a splash there and Greg Williams would be that guy. If they hire Singletary, pull up the clown car The Bears spend money on players but they just refuse to spend money on an organizational paradigm. Lovie got his money and was building a staff of experienced guys. Everything that has happened since the end of last season related to the organization reeks of old school Bears spending. The defensive coordinator hire is major indication as to how the pieces will fall from here. I originally thought these moves were promising now I am not so sure. Other then the special teams guy there are a lot of old guys some getting their first shot that the rest of the league was not too high on. I include Emery in this. Emery talks a good game but his last off-season was no great shakes and I will give him the benefit of the doubt that it was Lovie's influence.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 12:02 PM) Chud removed himself from consideration to become OC for the Panthers. Zampese also elected to stay with the Bengals. Jobs where the coaches werent lame ducks Zampese wanted the job but Lovie did not offer it to him. Zampese interviewed for the Bears OC job on three separate occasions.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 11:26 AM) That's Utah Carlos Boozer. Wonder what affect Rose had on his decreased numbers and what happens when Rose comes back?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 11:41 AM) With Marinelli out, I'm against the hire. I adore Rod Marinelli. I wish Carolina would have let Ron Rivera go.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 08:21 AM) @YahooForde: Was told by ND source Manti Te'o is expected to do 1-on-1 interview today w/ a single TV reporter.” Please be Pat Benkowski. Pat still around. Last time I saw him was for his traveling trivia show. Always thought him and Grobstein should host together. That is radio gold. -
So the new OC/OL coach and the STC/Asst HC were both interviewed to be Head Coaches, were they not? I get the feeling Trestman had the job all along and Emery was crossing t's and dotting i's with the other interviews. Not certain how it will turn out but the OC was a guy Lovie could never hire. Looks good so far. I love the folks that think Trestman is actually from Canada. f*** people are stupid.

Jimmy Carter, we can talk about the Braves and his brother's beer.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 11:00 PM) If Emery knows exactly what he wants, why are the alleged 2 finalists not very similar? Youd expect 2 OC's with similar philosophies, not 2 OC's who might as well come from different planets. Trestman- Alouttes are top 3 passing attempts. http://en.montrealalouettes.com/statistics...ssing/year/2012 If you compare passing to runs, its approximately 2 passes to every run. Bevell- University of Wisconsin graduate. QB for Barry Alvarez. You set the pass up with the run. Seattle 2012, more runs than passes. If you look historically Bevell's teams are much more balanced or slightly run leaning. Trestman is almost always pass leaning. How can you know exactly what you want if you arent even sure if you want a pass first offense or a run first offense? I have not watched the CFL in a few years but I think the game is a little different up here and Trestman may have had to adjust ho style to it.
