  1. Maybe Christian Guzman could be had. Throw a decent starter (Broadway/Phillips) out there and get something else decent on top of him. Assuming Guzman is trying to be a MLB player again. s***, Gilluen will demand Alex Gonzalez.
  2. What is the difference between Kevin Brown/Mike Hampton and Jason Schmidt/Barry Zito?
  3. Broadway or Floyd should be all that is given up. Then Rocco, Pods and Anderson can platoon in the outfield. Baldelli has not proven enough to be giving up more than one decent arm. His OBP is only .339 and he has played in 92 of a possible 324 games the last two years. How he is some how garnering the talent that is right ther ewith Crawford is beyond me. Danks should be able to get Crawford straight up or with a decent lower level prospect.
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 26, 2006 -> 05:09 PM) His parents might not see this the same as you ... considering they live in Round Rock, TX. I was joking you know. Sometimes humor around here is missed.
  5. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 26, 2006 -> 08:53 AM) At .08 your reaction time is slowed quite significantly. Your eyesight is diminished as well. You may not realize it, but you are much less safe at .08 than when you are sober. Dr. Johnny Fever proved this theory wrong. Thank you very much.
  6. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Dec 27, 2006 -> 11:09 AM) I know it makes me disgruntled knowing we just ruined our chances of a world series. We have no Liriano to step in and take over. I jsut wish this all never happenend. Are you comparing Garcia or McCarthy to Liriano? Who is the Twins Liriano by the way?
  7. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Dec 25, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) That is the real problem. If only people would stop hyping things so much, they would be able to see the big picture. This was the same problem with Jon Garland and this board (and everywhere else). Everyone wanted to cut/trade Garland when he was going through his growing pains because he was not the next Cy Young they all had built him to be. Not one understood how young he was and how, given his salary, he was providing us great value as our 3rd or 4th or 5th starter in most of those years. Gavin Floyd is a young Jon Garland.
  8. Is Randy Johnson going to net the Yankees more talent that Garcia did for the Sox? If so, KW was fleeced.
  9. QUOTE(Balance @ Dec 26, 2006 -> 11:41 AM) That move seems to be the opposite of the philosophy KW is currently pursuing. I don't think it would be a good move. I agree with you 100% but it is only for one year. If the six guys that are in the running all s*** the bed at AAA then we have a problem. Chances are two will be needed next year and can succeed while Johnson is the insurance policy that should they all suck we still have 5 MLB seasoned pitchers right now.
  10. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 26, 2006 -> 11:32 AM) I fail to see why we'd want a 43-year old starter that posted an ERA of 5 last year for somewhere in the neighborhood of $15 mil. If we were going to do that we might as well have kept Freddy, it just makes no sense... Throwing money out of the equation as the Sox had money before the Garcia trade and have it now. 5 spot in the rotation; Garcia or McCarthy v. Johnson, Floyd, Gonzalez, Masserat, Danks, Haegar He is a gamble but the reward is greater. Remember it is for one year only and he can be anywhere from a 1 to 5 in our rotation.
  11. I hope Danks doesn't show up wearing a Rangers hat. Who the f*** does he think he is talking to the Taxas media as well. Somebody better tell him he can no longer associate himself with the state of Texas.
  12. ESPN alluded to the fact that the Yanks are looking to drop some salary and Johnson is a move they would like to make. Think they may want to replace him with Zito? If so and it only cost someone like Broadway, I think the Sox would do it in a heartbeat. Right now the bandwagon and media have the Sox in the middle of a fire greater than that created by a cow many years back. This is a KW move if ther ever was one. THE SOX HAVE MONEY TO SPEND!!!!!! This and Clemens are one year gambles. If Clemens or Johnson flame out, there is a parade of young arms ready, willing and able. Tell Johnson to meet the team at the next destination and enjoy a couple of days at home between starts, same with Clemens. If this team does nothing and wins only 85 games the bandwagon will be gone and point at this. KW can not sit pat I believe there is a greater move out there. I think there will either be a big extension for Buerhle or big trade.
  13. So Danks might be better than McCarthy in the future, but it hurts the 2007 team. And the AL Central's 3rd place team didn't need a downgrade, it needed an upgrade. That is, if we wanted to contend this year. Wasn't there another person is this trade that throws mid 90's and has threee plus pitches? Does he not get factored in here? To me it sounds like a great 5th/6th inning guy which we will need seeing as we traded our Ace.
  14. Both teams have solid 3's. The Sox a have a potential 2. The Sox also got a guy for the pen this year who is a possible closer in exchange for the premise that BM can start right now where Danks is slotted for 2007. All three guys need to make the transition to the MLB level now. Despite the fact that BM did have a couple of glimmers he has had some rough spots which BM's fans will gloss over. He was creamed coming out of the pen last year and Tampa hit him good in a spot start. He was used very irratically by Guillen out of the pen so last year was a waste to him although he did learn he needs to make quality pitchers every time he throws the ball. His mistakes are not missed. My personal thoughts are that the Sox want to start someone other than McCarhty this season. The Chicago press have him rated pretty highly. The organization I feel wanted to avoid a PR mess in April by going through it now. The madia here believe prospects are only good for the independent leagues. For 2006 Texas got what hey needed therefore right now they will appear to have the upper hand. Going forward it will depend on how Masseret pans out.
  15. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 25, 2006 -> 05:06 AM) Agreed. It's better than scouring message boards and taking notes to determine your trade plans. Or having to spend $18M next year guys like Ted Lilly and Jason Marquis.
  16. QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 25, 2006 -> 11:01 AM) I didnt read the entire thread so I dont know if thjis was mentioned or not, but is there any possibility aquiring Danks has also a little to do with his brother? The way KW covets people and never forgets about them, could this possibly be a way to convince Jordan to leave Texas so they can draft him again? The Jordan Danks thing has been brought up. He can come out as a junior (I think he is a junior) this June or stay another year. He could use this to try and play with his brother as a team may not want to risk losing a 1st round pick on him which the Sox could use. They have the relationship with the family from a couple of years back. This would make KW looked like a complete genius if it worked out. My thoughts are the Sox wanted Haegar in the rotation this year and this is the easist way to get it. McCarthy would whine and complain if he was sent down to start the year and then replace an injured pitcher during the year or Buerhle the next year. I think the Tampa game and the disaster that was his attempt at relieving cost him the job in this organization. I also think that there is a bigger move coming for these younger guys.
  17. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 07:36 PM) Any deal involving any positional player shouldn't even be under consideration. A reasonable person can't possibly trade McCarthy, Broadway, Danks within one offseason at the risk of abandoning pitching depth. Screw Crawford. Everyone should forget about him. He won't help us much when the various starters within our rotation begin to leave. Since our organization has shown a reluctance to sign pitchers to long term deals, it makes more sense to stockup on that division of the system. Anyways, knowing how Williams has operated, it'll probably be Danks/Broadway/Gonzalez for Crawford. That's far too much of our future for someone who represents 1/9 of a lineup. I realize his potential, but Jesus, how much are we willing to sacrifice for him? Weren't Garland, Garcia, Buerhle, and Contreras all signed to long term deals rather than letting them hit free agency?
  18. I think that Buerhle is going to ink a long term deal. If he craps out there are better options for cheaper long-term which could cover a bad contract, make some sense? I also think Haegar is the number 5 and the organization felt this all along and this was the reason for moving McCarthy. If there is a thought that we needed more "stuff" pitchers, the Sox got rid of two guys that were feel pitchers last year. Jose and Vazquez are stuff guys and Garland (and buerhle to an extent) are still growing and have better stuff than McCarthy. If McCullough and the leftie we got in the Cotts trade pan out this offseason can be nothing short of spectacular. It also could suck badly. I think there is a major move coming though for a solid to great number 5.
  19. I believe the organization likes Haegar more than McCarthy. Think about facing Haegar and then any of six guys that throw 95+ out of the pen. At the start of the winter OG stated that he wanted 6 guys that could close. Well he has them. I also believe there is a major deal coming up for a couple of young pithcers (ie Danks and Broadway for Crawford).
  20. How come Wainwright could have success out of the pen and McCarthy could not? Lance Broadway is now easy to get rid of as well as MCullough. Two guys that were really high on the prospect list. Weaver is an option as well.
  21. Offer Clemens the moon to quite the critics they like theses moves. He is a stop gap until either Floyd, Gonzalez or Danks are ready to take a place a top of the rotation. I actually think that the Sox should tell Clemens he will pitch every Sunday and go with a six man rotation based around this. I like the move FWIW.
  22. This is a great trade. As stated about 15 times Glaod wasn't going to get playing time. Sisco has a great arm. The pen now has 5 guys that throw over 95, that is tough. Not sure why the Royals would make this move. There is no point to it at all.
  23. The guy is a big game pitcher and a horse. Is he even 26 yet? If Petitte can get $16M for one year, Zambrano will get well over $20M. He could rival A-Rod with the goofiness of his contract. Say what you want but he could be the best pitcher in baseball bar none by the end of this season.
  24. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 01:58 AM) What jersey was Jered Weaver wearing? And the ring ceremony would be the one time I wouldnt mind it because its 1 day your celebrating with a team you won the WS with. If Weaver was supporting the Cards thats different because its his brother and he is a rookie young guy you expect them not to be as professional(think Milledge after his 1st HR). While watching Jeff Weaver pitch in the WS, Jared Weaver was the poster child for Cardinal attire. Every stich of clothing was Cardinals. I get the feeling Buerhle will be signed long term. If so, I wish he would show up in a Cardinal jersey and hat.
