QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) Aren't "speed/slap" hitters supposed to be good contact hitters who make sure they put the ball in play? 1) Pods isn't fast he is a good base stealer 2) He is not a slap hitter....he is no kind of hitter what so ever Nice K. 5-3 Tribe

Why can't he get the ball down on a consistent basis..... Nobody is missing the mistakes either or maybe it is just an inordinate about of mistakes being made by our starters. For the fourth time today we are reminded the Twins won the division and not the Tigers. Why is that so important..............

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 01:49 PM) Pathetic inning. AJ and Iguchi more or less had walks 'handed' to them if they sat back a bit, and Westbrook hung that pitch toUribe. Ugh ugh ugh. Story of the the last few years. No plate discipline and unable to fight off good pitches. Again 0-2 now it is 2-2, nice play Iguchi. Wanna hear about St. Rita put on WSCR.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 01:40 PM) Any chance the pitchers are just getting tight between warm-ups. Garland came right from the pen to start after that everyone has had a long break. Martinez, hit first and third two out. Was ahead 1-2 why can we not put guys away, Jesus. Nice play by Uribe. After the three run homer, Westbrook threw 6 pitches a ball didn't leave the infield.

Iguchi batting 8th to me is bad move. I really think he should bat behind Dye, Crede gets way to much credit for being a better hitter than he actually is especially in this weather.

I still do not understand why they leave the day after the opener as an off day every year. Yesterdya it was 70 degrees and sunny. The next four games are going to be miserable. Oh well.

2007 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 3, 2007 -> 02:58 PM) I was stunned by Ozuna's catch - I thought it was over his head for sure. In fact, aside from Gooch's throwing error, I thought the whole team looked pretty solid on defense. Wasn't that Uribe's error?

Sox 4th in total 2007 payroll
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 3, 2007 -> 11:13 AM) The actual number is about $10M less with when you factor in cash considerations. That would put the Sox at 9th in baseball. Assuming no other teams have cash considerations either positive or negative.

Tribune Company Accept's Zell's Bid
The thought is that Wrigley Field will not be part of the deal as that land could be worth as much as the franchise. The Cubs will lease the stadium. Jerry Colangelo is a candidate and he has a good relationship with MLB. Selig may veto a deal with Cuban. The contracts the cubs signed in the offseason will actually hurt the sale price as most of them are back loaded. The new owners could use this as their excuse for their spending habits. I never really thought the Tribune was bad for the cubs. I always thought their payroll was pretty high.

3/31/07 Sox @ Braves 12:05 CT Game Thread
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 31, 2007 -> 12:41 PM) Pablo was actually an infielder by trade, before we acquired him. I personally think he's close to as good at 2B or 3B as Cintron is, defensively (possibly better, at 2B). I'd be curious how he'd do at SS. Ozuna's natural position is short. He is much better than Cintron there as he has an above average arm. He just doesn't get the opportunity as when he is needed he is somehow designated as a left fielder because he has speed. He has gotten some time in center in the spring. If he seems to play there better than left you may see Anderson is left and he in center. There is a debate that center may or may not be harder to judege a ball off the bat because it is hit right at you and doesn't tail as much as in left or right. I heard this discussed by Steve Stone this spring while they were talking about Soriano. This has been discussed previously and I guess it depends on the player.
