Dave Kaplan reports Kenny Williams holding back Rick Hahn
iamshack replied to Donaldo's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 22, 2016 -> 07:57 PM) Well it's interesting now that Melky has been performing well over the long run now but Hahn didn't think it was the financially prudent thing to do. He thought they could get similar production for lesser cost (whether it be money or prospects) and KW thought the Sox were very close and Melky was the last piece they needed. Although I can't find them now, Hahn had some weird comments in the media after Melky was signed. Something like, "I never knew we had the money to do this." Kind of a weird comment from the GM. Yeah, I remember him saying he told Melky's agent that he didn't know how they would possibly afford to sign him but that they wanted to know if he was interested in coming to the White Sox, just in case...they were odd comments for certain. Here it is: -
QUOTE (Tony @ Aug 21, 2016 -> 08:26 PM) I don't know, there were a ton of fans there with shirts from the early 00's and late 90's. They still seem to be going strong. On a related note, the GF got me tickets for my birthday. We went last night, sat int he "front row" of the 500 level. Of course because it's Wrigley, there was a beam in front of one of our seats, which was NOT labeled on the StubHub ticket. It ending up not being a big deal at all, we stood the whole time so it didn't get in the way ever a little bit. HOWEVER, the GF was bored this morning and decided to call StubHub, just to see if she could get anything of them. They gave her back 75% of her purchase because the tickets didn't say their was an obstruction. With the credit to her account, we just paid 28 bucks to sit in better seats tomorrow (tickets are cheaper because it's the 2nd show and it's a Monday). So all in all....a huge win. Dick! And Joe, Pearl Jam has been around for 25+ years...they could play for days without repeating the same song.

First broad look at 2016 draft class hitting performance

Nicely done, as always, Brian! -
QUOTE (Tony @ Aug 21, 2016 -> 09:39 AM) Pearl Jam rocked my nuts off last night. How long did they play for?

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 18, 2016 -> 09:31 AM) I'm meeting with a recruiter tomorrow from Accenture, not sure if it's the path I want to go down but willing to explore. Always good to explore! Keep us posted, Russ!

Mr. Blackmon is just absolutely going bats*** crazy in August.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 13, 2016 -> 04:39 PM) Cord cutters should Google "Kodi." Yeah, I've heard of Kodi...this is for the parents though, so it has to be user friendly.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 13, 2016 -> 03:27 PM) I'n intrigued but the fact I watch so much sports scares me that that could take a hit. Like could I log into Watch ESPN? Sling is just an app you use, so I don't see why you couldn't do whatever it is you are doing already. Their packages do offer several regional sports networks, as well as ESPN, and NBC/Fox and their sports networks, so while it isn't exactly DirecTV, it does offer you quite a few options.
-
QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 13, 2016 -> 03:12 PM) What exactly is SLing TV? A cable like company but a streaming service or something else? Yeah, it is owned by Dish. But it's streaming of live tv channels. They have 3 main packages which include different combinations of your most popular cable networks like tbs/fx/amc/espn/food/hgtv/cnn and then some other networks like nbc/fox and their cable networks. You can also add the premium movie channels as well. It's pretty awesome if you watch a lot of basic cable like my parents do.
-
And the cord has officially been cut. The parents are now slinging it with sling tv. They have the sling blue package with the news package and the hollywood extra package (so they can watch turner classic movies) for $34.97/mo. I downloaded the Apple TV Remote app for their phones as the remote that comes with Apple TV is a bit small. I just spent a few hours teaching them how to use it... Dad loves youtube.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 13, 2016 -> 08:40 AM) How'd you respond? Never heard of something like that before. I said I enjoyed the conversation but the role was a little different than what I anticipated, and so I didn't answer a few of the questions as well as I would have liked. She apologized for that and asked how the role was different than I anticipated. I explained, and said if I had an opportunity to interview in person I would be more prepared. She asked if I still had interest and I said absolutely. She then said the interviewer thought the conversation went well, and that I was one of the first interviews so the process is going to take a little time, but she would be emailing me periodically to keep me posted. So I guess it was better than nothing, but when she emailed earlier in the week asking to chat again, I had higher hopes. So more waiting...

So I got sick and tired of the cable company dicking my parents around and cancelled basically everything but internet. Signed them up for Sling tv. They will be my cut the cord guinea pigs...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 10:07 PM) Hi from Texas A&M. Congrats Balta!

So the company's recruiter called me yesterday to follow-up on my interview. I was expecting them to schedule an in-person interview, but instead they were just keeping me posted and checking in on my thoughts on how things went. Never really had that happen before.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 11:21 AM) Yeah it really does baffle me. And they actually traded for him before he went to NY.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 11:34 AM) Sure. 3 posts ago. Even after he agreed with you, it was turned into being mad or something ridiculous to keep it going. This is the kind of unnecessary stuff that just grinds the board to a halt. We got it, move on. The great thing about this is that this is exactly the type of snarky bs that bmags would post about what someone else said.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 09:35 AM) August 4 was an impactful day in Sox history to be sure for a few different reasons and we've got the audio AND video to prove it. Start with August 4, 1985 in New York where Tom Seaver picked up his 300th career win beating the Yankees 4-1 before a packed house. We've got the final out of his gem. Announcer: Lorn Brown. Courtesy: WMAQ Radio. Then we go to August 4, 1993 for some audio and video... a hot night in Texas when Robin Ventura snapped after getting drilled by a Nolan Ryan pitch. Ryan had been throwing at Sox hitters for years but things started to get ugly in 1990. Robin finally said enough. Announcers: Ken "Hawk" Harrelson. Courtesy: SportsChannel-Chicago. Both items can be found here: http://www.chicagonow.com/soxnet/2016/08/t...n-robins-brawl/ Mark I believe this is the true story of what happened on that fateful night in 1993...

Yikes...that was a bit different than I expected...did ok, but I suspect not as well as I needed to. Now I wait...

How much hope should we have for Anderson?
iamshack replied to TheFutureIsNear's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 10:52 AM) What is the difference now when they really don't have much of a shot? Are you saying the Anderson and Fulmer questioning wouldn't be happening if the traded Sale and/or Quintana at the deadline and instead of losing 2-1 the other day, they lost 9 or 10 to 1? We are at the point where the White Sox intention at the beginning of the season is irrelevant. They are playing out the string. If you can't take an 0-4 from Anderson or Fulmer giving up a HR, you aren't going to accept a season or 2 or 3 or 20 of it where the entire roster is players in the same boat. The team waved the white flag in 2013 and for the 2014 season. The roster, the record, the play, were still held against any and all management. First of all, Fulmer would not be forced into this bizarre role if we weren't bringing him up because of some misplaced designs on competing. If we were rebuilding, he would either be starting in Birmingham/Charlotte or in Chicago. The same could be said for Anderson, although I suspect he also could be asked to bat in a different place in the order, or to actually work on becoming a better MLB hitter, instead of what his instructions seem to be now. I mean why is this kid batting 1st or 2nd still? Yes, I know none of us seem to think we are no longer competing, but I am not sure the club is acting like we are not competing. -

iamshack replied to TheFutureIsNear's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 09:11 AM) He's probably a 7-9 hitter on a really good team. Posts similar to this one and others about Rodon and Fulmer though continue to tell me that this fan base isn't ready for a rebuild. People think that everyone is Chris Sale. This place will be rough during a rebuild I think the bolded is a myth. The issue isn't that these guys themselves come up and struggle a bit. The issue is that these guys are placed in a position where a team designed to be competitive needs them to succeed in order to actually be competitive. This creates an atmosphere where the organization, the team, the player and the fans are placing so much reliance on the prospect to immediately contribute that it sort of ruins the entire mood for everyone. If we were to rebuild, I think there would be an acceptance for struggles and growing pains because of reduced expectations that simply doesn't exist when you are trying to compete year in and year out. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 04:54 AM) Gammons just said Moncada, Benitendi, Devers and Kopech were not available for Sale. LMAO, seriously, go f*** yourself Boston. I hope you flame out He said the same thing a few days prior to the deadline. That simply cannot be true. No GM is that stupid.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 11:45 AM) Dumping Shields and adding Puig will at least sell some tickets this offseason... You think? I don't think it would make one iota of difference.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 11:27 AM) Similar line of work? Yeah, energy industry still, but Silicon Valley instead of stodgy utility.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 11:18 AM) Nice, keep us posted! Phone interview is Monday morning. Spending a lot of time preparing for this, but it would absolutely be huge.
