All reasons to adjust the system, not scrap it all together for something worse.
-
Nah, it's not "i got mine, fuck you," it's, "I got mine, as does most of the country, and it makes little sense to screw all of us to benefit a few. There are changes that can and should be made, but a universal system run by our inefficient, corrupt government is not one of them."
-
No, even worse, they'd be the ones determining how much the system gets in funding. So, when our shitty, partisan, uncompromising Congress wants to hold the country hostage and/or just decide to slash funding, everyone suffers and there's no recourse. You all are absolutely crazy to think that the federal government of this country would be able to properly run that kind of system. There is no comparison to any other country. We're our own unique society/government. And we already have evidence that our government can't properly run a system for 8-9 million vets, let alone the rest of the 300-350 million population.

Eh, those aren't exactly hot button socialist platforms like a single payer health care system, free college for all, living wages/guaranteed income, etc. Also, you'll always find those studies flawed in the sense that you're asking people "would you like X?" without the corresponding "if it costs you Y." In theory I love the idea that everyone gets free healthcare and free education and we're all wealthy. And then reality kicks in and I realize there is no way to pay for it/implement it without destroying the country and/or screwing me out of something. I'll also fill the roll of SS and Balta and state that the study was conducted by a progressive group and therefore its findings are biased and unfounded.

Source on this? Perhaps among the young, but that will change when they get older and start making more money.

Still haven't gotten to it. Been traveling too much this summer. Shooting for the fall when the weather gets a little cooler and we're home for a couple weekends in a row without plans.

Yeah, that reads like he's specifically addressing "for cause" contract language. Carefully worded statement by his lawyers. He's obviously worried. -

What? Who? I think one person has died playing an NFL game and that was due to a heart attack decades ago. People have been paralyzed, obviously, but that's the risk. That's why they're paid millions of dollars to play a violent sport. And yes, perhaps the future of the game is a concern, but what happens when you diminish the product so much that people stop caring? I'm not saying they completely ignore safety and let players do whatever out there, but like I said, we have sensible, common sense rules. Adding more confusion is diluting the product and making it far more difficult to watch. And i'm shocked the NFL continues to do this stuff when we just went through it with all the catch/no-catch nonsense. -

I think it's sad that for at least 10 years now (and probably more) 95% of the coverage of the NFL has to do with rule changes, bad calls in games and protests. Very little that happens on-field is discussed. It's one of the reasons the NFL has fallen way down in the list of priorities for me (along with the Bears being terrible again for a long stretch). I just don't care about this stuff and i'm tired of talking about it. What fun is watching the game when inevitably there are 8-10 plays that are reviewed and discussed to death, grinding any momentum of the game to a halt? i'm not sure why the NFL ever opened the player safety flood gates. This is going to be a never ending quest that is impossible to finish. It's a violent game. Period. It always has been. Just go play. You've made some common sense rules about defenseless players and targeting and the like. That's great. Enough with this interpretation and intent crap. I can't believe the NFL is doubling down on its stupidity by enacting these complex rules. We spent 5-6 seasons changing the rule on what a catch is (when we all know what a catch is) and now we're going to do the same with this helmet to helmet stuff. We all know when a play is dirty. We all know when a player is targeting and intending to hurt someone. We also know when shit happens and a guy diving to make a tackle will unintentionally make contact with another player's helmet. It happens. It's part of the game. Stop wasting so much time on it. -

OSU has an out. There's no evidence that he was told about this. The victim told his wife in those texts, not Urban. Now, does any reasonable person believe that Urban's wife didn't tell him about this? Especially the asshole's past in 2009? No, but that's what he can maintain. He SHOULD be fired, but I still think I'd bet on him staying versus leaving at this point. Also, what a fucking idiot. Why on earth be so definitive about not knowing? Just say, you know, I can't recall if I was ever told any specifics about what was going on in their marriage. I knew it was rocky, I knew there was a past issue and I thought they had moved past it. -

I think it's $93 billion a year cheaper, on the assumption that doctors and hospitals will take 40% less than what they currently get paid by private insurers (seems far fetched). How many millions of jobs would be lost? What's the economic cost going to be of shifting the private insurance industry into the government? $93/billion a year worth? I'm still not sure why you think it's a garbage system for the majority of people but you think Medicare and the VA are great. Medicare has the same types of issues - there are restrictions as to what they'll pay, how many times a year they'll pay for it, and what gets covered. You still have deductibles and co-pays. You have limits on days in the hospital, etc. etc. They're just as much of a headache, if not more, than private insurance. If we're talking about a government run system, I can't believe anyone would be on board with that. We'd literally be at the mercy of Congress to pass expenditure bills to provide enough funding for coverage, including research. If there are no incentives of making profit, what's the incentive for creating new drugs, tests, etc? What's the incentive to providing the best care possible (see, the VA). As I said before, the system isn't perfect but IMO its better than anything the government (OUR government) can efficiently operate.
-
It's not perfect, changes can and should be made, but a single payer system run by the government would be a gigantic diasaster. Literally look at the VA and Medicare. The VA is so fucked up the private system is the preferred alternative. I've never had to fight an insurance company anymore than I've had to "fight" my cell phone company, my cable company, etc. The few hours of inconvenience a year are well worth it.
-
Yeah for the vast majority of people it works just fine.
-
Having seen how the VA is run and how Medicare is run....even if it can be done without a dollar increase in my taxes, I still say no thanks.
-
Isn't that savings they found on the cost of drugs/administration, not the actual system? So yeah, drugs are cheaper and going to a doctor is cheaper, but you're adding 30 million more people onto the system that are not currently insured, among other things, so it would still cost whatever they find - 36 trillion over ten years - to fully fund it. https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/study-medicare-bill-estimated-326-trillion-56906940 No thanks.

Sure it would. Presumably he's getting a deal of immunity so he has every incentive to give Mueller all that he can.

The problem is you have a he said/he said situation and both are deplorable human beings.

1) I totally agree and have been harping on this for years. I truly believe cable news is one of the worst things to ever happen to society. I would like to see the shootings covered but they should be covered like suicides - no names, no motives, no screen time for the killer. Focus on the victims. But, until this issue stops being a ratings driver, that'll never happen. 2) This one is tough because unless you want to go all minority report and try to prevent future crime, what can you do? Counseling, sure, though I doubt most of these kids would attend/participate. Anti-bullying programs need to be emphasized more and I think that's a trend that has been around for a while. I know in my kid's school (early grade school), bullying is an insanely serious topic and it's zero policy. Some of the shooters were flagged by family and friends as someone who may be a problem, but you can't arrest someone on what they might do. I don't know what the solution is. Gun bans are garbage ideas, just like arming teachers is a garbage idea. So how do you properly flag these kids AND then do something to prevent them from hurting other people? The kid in Florida was flagged and expelled. That didn't work.
-
The big problem there in the video is that the guy takes two steps back as soon as the gun is out. I don't see how the shooter could be in imminent fear of death or serious harm when the guy is backing away. He should absolutely be charged and i'd find him guilty based on the clip I saw. That said (1) move the fucking car, (2) don't be an ass and immediately push the guy violently to the ground and then stand over him like you're about to do more damage in a state that allows concealed carry AND has stand your ground protections.

I read something a few months ago that only like 40% of teenagers use Facebook. It's basically a generation off and they now use Instagram and Snapchat instead. The good thing for Facebook is that they can just buy the next big social media hit (or several and get the one that lands).

Deadwood movie is a go. FINALLY.

Should be fun, course is going to be pretty wild. Apparently the fairways are just as fast, if not faster, than the greens.
