  1. They wanted out of that DeRozan contract and they hope they can talk Kawhi into signing a max deal (which is like 30-35 [edit: 50!] million more than LA can offer) like OKC did with Paul George. The shrewdest move here is to immediately call up Magic and say Kawhi's available. But i'm not sure if that's possible. Isn't there a rule against trading players that were just traded? Don't you have to wait a certain amount of time? Especially with veterans?
  2. 1) I like how this guy cites one general approving quote Kavanaugh made about Rehnquist (without any context really), then quotes Rehnquist opinions (not Kavanaugh's) as if they prove his point that Kavanaugh doesn't think criminals should have any rights. He may well be soft on this stuff, but an actual quote or two from his actual opinions would have been nice. 2) While those rights should be enforced pretty strongly, I also 100% agree that in some cases there should be an exclusion when a technicality is going to let an otherwise clearly guilty person go free. In the civil realm there are reversible errors and non-reversible errors. The same should be true in criminal court (and perhaps it is, that's not my wheelhouse).
  3. I think it's a smart move. You can keep the prestige side while also making money on shorter, cheaper streaming content. I think they're rightly concerned about Netflix, Amazon and Hulu cranking out shows and being left behind once the GoT behemoth is over.
  4. Holy crap is Washington (state) beautiful. The wife and I had a great time in Seattle and trekking around Mt. Rainier. I think we hiked about 25 miles in 2.5 days. Little to no cell service or internet....perfect weather. Just a fantastic time.
  5. Still could be. Sign both next year to max deals! #keepdreaming
  6. Pelicans were better without Cousins. Not saying Cousins isn't a good, all-star quality player, but he's not your #1 on a championship team.
  7. Way too much of a gamble. He had a serious injury. There's a legit chance he doesn't reach 80% of what he was. A 2 year deal for like 7-8 million a year is worth the gamble, but not the max. Also, he's a clubhouse cancer so...not really the vet presence the Bulls need for their young core. edit: https://www.sbnation.com/nba/2018/1/27/16940178/demarcus-cousins-achilles-injury-golden-state-warriors-this-is-the-worst
  8. I don't understand the Lance Stephenson and Javell Mcgee signings at all. If you want high basketball IQ, neither of those guys offer that.
  9. Kind of surprised it was a 4 year deal. Wonder what year his player option will be. Otherwise maybe he's trying to cash in on one final deal.
  10. Nah, going over board with PC nonsense caused a backlash which caused the lack of civility. The pendulum was pushed too far left and it's natural swing back has gone too far to the right to compensate.
  11. oh geez, the signing of Wade should have been on my list. I was fine giving it a go with Wade/Rondo and Butler, but not for the exorbitant price they paid when no one else in teh league was going to offer him that much.
  12. Oh god, why? The last thing this town needs is Ball's dad in the papers everyday.
  13. 1) I didn't mind the Mirotic signing. He didn't have much trade value at the time and it wasn't a bad contract. Given how he had played up to that point, I don't think any would have guessed that he was actually good enough to tip the scale and make the Bulls win at a pretty decent clip for a bad team. 2) I also don't see the big deal selling that 2nd round pick. Yes, Bell ended up being pretty good, and yes, it didn't really seem like a necessary move, but end of the day the odds were against that pick being anything meaningful. If Bell was such a certainty he wouldn't have gone 2nd round. 3) Agree on Felicio. You also missed out on their love affair with Payne and the pretty bad deal to get rid of McDermott and Gibson. IMO the biggest mistakes in the last 5-6 years were: 1) not tanking fully (even if it meant getting rid of Thibs, who I loved, but is vastly overrated as a coach) after Rose got hurt the 2nd time. That would have been a perfect opportunity to grab a top 5 guy in the following draft, possibly pulling off a Robinson/Duncan type scenario. Obviously it didn't play out that way as Rose is made of glass, but we basically ruined Noah's career over a worthless 2nd round exit. 2) the McDermott trade to draft him, which I was all for since they needed a shooter and he was the best one, but in hindsight that was really bad 3) the revolving door of PG's, especially the trade to bring in Payne. What a waste. I'm not ready to say the Butler trade was a total disaster. I probably would have kept him and tried to go the FA route, but they needed to move him or they'd be stuck in NBA hell given that no FA's come to Chicago. Giving up that 1st was stupid. But if Dunn and Markennan can develop, I think that's about the best you can do for a fringe top 15 player.
  14. Very confusing and a lot of the emotional moments didn't really work for me (Sizemore for example) but overall it was an ok to good season and i'm still excited to see what happens next. I don't really understand the hate that a lot of people have for the show.
  15. It's a stretch to connect the awful things Trump tweets to this specific shooting. The dude was deranged and had a vendetta against that paper for years. edit: and because I have to, lest I be labeled a "supporter," that is NOT an excuse/justification/support for Trump saying those things.
  16. I don't think the current GOP was nearly as radical even 5 years ago as it is today, but I also don't think that has anything to do with actual policy and more to do with this growing trend from both parties that regardless of the policy, if you're not with us you're against us. It's our side versus your side. "My" guy is in the white house, so regardless of what he does/doesn't do he's right and you're wrong. It's rather pathetic and sad and it's why our system sucks.
  17. I doubt there are many Trump "supporters." I think there are several conservatives on the board who don't agree with Trump (vehemently so) but nevertheless don't buy into the bullshit "if you don't agree with liberal-think you're a bigot/racist/fascist Trump Nazi." Myself included. And it's just not worth the effort of contributing anything to the board when you're immediately held responsible for mass shootings because you believe in gun rights and/or that you apparently support family separation policies because you believe that sensible immigration laws/enforcement is necessary.
  18. I wonder if anyone has been successful suing hospitals for fraudulent billing.
  19. There's something about Asik's deal that can be worked with. I dunno if they use the stretch provision or what, but they can do something with it according to Lowe.
  20. Zach Lowe had a good discussion on the Bulls in his latest podcast. They are in really good position going forward with basically nothing on the books. They'll be able to afford 2 max guys two years from now if they really wanted to (Anthony Davis sweepstakes). Both Lowe and Kevin Arnovitz agreed that either the Bulls are going to be sneaky good in the next season or two (if Markennan, Carter, Dunn, etc. develop) with lots of room to add max FA's. Or, they'll be a team like Orlando but with no bad contracts.
  21. I would say the majority of the country, republicans included, were not happy with admn's family separation policy. The attention that story drew, and the clear dislike from a large portion of Trump's base, resulted in Trump changing his position in about a 3 day period of time. Instead of continuing to pressure him on change, one of your reps decided it would instead be better to rile up mobs to go after cabinet/admn members in public places. She stole all the headlines for a day and the immigration issue is/was essentially over. There's a time and a place. There are important targets and not important targets. I'd say not serving the press secretary, days after the gay wedding cake decision came out, was a pretty dumb move, made worse by someone who should have known better.
  22. If Dems do what Balta (and others) suggests, the Dem party gains nothing. You normalize this sort of behavior. The independents you hope to gain will think "well both parties suck" and not vote.
  23. Reading through it now. He doesn't ignore it, but says it's not persuasive as other Muslim-majority countries (92% of the Muslim world) are not affected by the ban. Edit: he also points out that there are exceptions to the ban for the countries on the list, e.g. for nonimmigrant visas and permanent residents and those granted asylum. So far I think the decision is a good one, despite my opinion that the ban is dumb and unnecessary. The law needs to be changed if we don't want the President to have this kind of power.
